I personally love all the VA's for the current english dubs. Not to say that I dont like the Japanese original but I am a fan of both.
A lot of people just don't like the voices, period. I'm not too picky myself, but there's always one or tw voices that just drive me up the friggin' wall. And a lot of the voices are just so... off. For instance, why does every villain have to have either a rough, gravelly voice or some kind of accent? Why does King Kai sound like a fish?
Beyond that, there's the line delivery, aka 'acting'. There's not a lot of good acting in the DBZ dub. Everyone has their moments, some are better than others, but overall it's just so dry, and flat.
Further, the script. Better than it was, still not as good as it could be. Not to say I don't like some of the changes, in fact, I love that speech Goku gives Vegeta about the Saiyan line dying and fighting for Bulma and Trunks. It's a bit out of character for Goku, but it's still awesome.
Not to say that dubs in general have all these problems - or even that these voice actors are bad. It just seems to be a DBZ problem. *shrug* Most dubs are pretty good. For some reason they always seem 'loud'.
That said, DBZ has pretty much ruined English dubs for me. I can't trust them. I try, but I keep thinking I'm missing something. I'm just glad my trust in subtitles hasn't been destroyed too. From my meager Japanese knowledge and the testimonials I've read here (as well as conversation directly with the man), I've become quite impressed with Daimao's translations. And while I worry that other companies might not be quite up to the same standard, at least I don't have to worry about Anime Labs
