Was instant transmission instant in the anime?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

That's not really a response...

The word used is indeed "Shunkanidō" which, while literally meaning "Instantaneous Movement", is also just the colloquial word for "teleportation".

There is no further explanation necessary. It doesn't travel at any particular speed; it's instant. Daizenshuu 7 simply describes it as:
Daizenshuu 7 wrote:A technique that Goku learned from the aliens that live on Planet Yardrat, which he visited by chance when he escaped from Planet Namek. This form of teleportation senses a person's ki, and then moves to where that person is. Because of this, it is impossible to move anywhere that does not have people or ki which one knows. Cell remembered this way of moving when he teleported with Goku. This technique is not just used for moving, but can also be included in offensive techniques.
Any extra crap about it being light speed is dub fluff. I know the "Instant Translocation" spiel in the alternate dub added some other dialog, right? So yeah. Ignore it all.

If it was light speed it would have taken Goku many many years to reach New Namek. It would take light 4 years to reach Proxima Centauri, which is the nearest star to our solar system. Even if you assume that they have a much smaller universe. Just by comparing the Namekian ship to the ship Goku used to get to Namek. Goku's ship is much faster than light. It would be faster to travel there via one of the Capsule ships than to use the Shunkanidou.

Dbz movie 8 showed us Goku traveling in dimension that isn't affected with time...seems like good explanation...

The Instant Transmission is indeed instant. It's not a matter of speed, it's literally teleporting from one place to another instantly.

In the Japanese version of Kai all Goku says is
Japanese Goku wrote:There wasn't much time, so they (the Yardrats) could only teach me one move, but I had to go through hell for it. Now I can do teleportation (Shunkanido)!

and then in FUNi dub he says
English Goku wrote: I didn't have much time, and it was really tough to learn, but I finally got it down. I learned one Yardratian technique. In just one year, I perfected Instant Transmission.
so, in Kai they don't say anything about light speed either. That's just something that was put into the dubs to occupy filler lines.
