If the 2008 Jump Special would've been the last thing ever..

Post by MarCas92 » Sun May 24, 2015 9:14 pm

Would you have been satisfied?

I love Battle of Gods. But, if this special would've have been the last Dragon Ball thing ever produced, how would you feel? Personally, I would've been more than satisfied. I feel it's a love letter to the fans. It's a special that reminds us why we have loved Dragon Ball for so long, telling a Dragon Ball era story with the Z cast of characters. I just feel that personally, it's the most satisfying thing the series has ever given us. I mean, that shot of of Goku at the end could've been the last we ever see of him and I would've been perfectly content with this being the last thing ever animated for DB. It certainly does feel like an ending/epilogue.

I would've been satisfied, I love the 08 special, but I'd also likely be retired from Dragon Ball about three years ago. I was on my way out in early 2012 until they announced BOG.

It's the new content that's keeping me interested.

I wouldn't feel any different than I did when I first saw it: "hmmm... that was neat."

I didn't expect anything new after it, nor did I think it was actually canon. Just felt like something made for the sake of seeing the cast again.

I certainly wouldn't have minded if the 2008 Jump Special would have been the last proper entry into the franchise. It had funny moments, great action, great comedy, good chemistry between characters and really good animation. It would have been a more than satisfactory final send off for Dragon Ball.

Yep, I would have been absolutely, perfectly satisfied if that was the last thing ever. Hell, I would have been perfectly fine if it hadn't happened either. It was a very enjoyable experience. I guess it's an easy thing to answer this way, though. Since nobody knew anything else was coming, it's not as if we were pining away going, "Gee, when's the next thing coming out?" We already thought it was over. But, honestly, if I was told there was a possible future I had to choose between in 2008 where the next resurgence might happen and might not, I would probably still be pretty ambivalent, honestly. That sounds terrible, and I've certainly enjoyed some of the things that have come out since then, but I certainly don't need them, and they certainly haven't really changed my fandom in any conceivable way, and I was certainly content with the series having been over. But would I actually choose nothing after 2008 if I had an idea of what was to come? That I don't know for sure.

Actually, come to think of it, you know what was the most exciting thing for my fandom post-2008? Domestic Dragon Boxes. That's what inspired me to finally join the forums after having followed the site for nine years. It inspired me to start making DB videos on my channel. That's what really lit the fire under my fan ass. If we're including that, then definitely no, not satisfied because prior to the DBoxes I still hadn't even seen all of the Z series because it was impossible to collect the whole series in any decent way.

These days it's hard for me to imagine that DB ever existed without Beerus, Whis, and Jaco. I wouldn't know what I was missing if the JSAT special had been the last thing ever.

Good question; would I have continued following Abridged if there had been no new movies and I had retired back in mid-2012?
I honestly don't know. I'd probably still watch it when new episodes would be uploaded, but my post-count itself and my activity in general in the fandom would've dropped down. Like you'd see a post from me here or there, but I wouldn't be able to be called active. I'd probably post a couple times a week instead of a couple times a day like I do now (that's where I was headed back in April/May/June of 2012 before BOG was announced).

I agree with Gaffer Tape that we'd at least need the Domestic Dragon Boxes; being the weeaboo I am I needed watch the entire anime in it's original format at least once.

Sadly, despite liking the voices for the Z-Fighters, it turns out I didn't really like the anime adaptation too much so I guess even that backfired on me.

I'd honestly be satisfied for two reasons. First, I quite enjoyed the 2008 special, and it pushed every nostalgic button in me. Second, I wouldn't know what I'd be missing out on. If my future self came back in time and told me about BoG, FnF, and Super, but that they were somehow erased from reality I'd know I was living in the darkest timeline.

I wouldnt be here since before BoG Dragon Ball was a good series, entertaining with cool characters, but there was nothing that made me want to discuss it with other people or read their discussions since whenever I searched on the web (that wasnt so often either...), there was always the who's more powerful discussions, so nothing interesting.

I'm happy BoG was made and I found this site that its not just about the power levels.

Well, if it was the final Dragon Ball thing ever, I certainly wouldn't mind, mainly because the Turtle Hermit School students get to kick butt one more time.

Or at least, do something.

Not really.

Just because you get new content doesnt make it better.Depends on the content.Good thing the 2008 short film was awesome.I still remember first time seeing it.Action was great,i got to see goku own, vegeta and goku arguing was funny, trunks and goten fighting.

That and i enjoyed seeing tarble go holy crap when goku powered up.

Now with the bog addition, its nice, new chars, new 'classes' new ranks ^^ And in a good way.Plus ROF new colored ssj transformation which looks really nice.

No, I wouldn't, really. Not after seeing Battle of Gods and reading Jaco. I could certainly do without RF, though, even if SSGSS is my favourite transformation design-wise.

I wouldn't really bother myself with any official Dragon Ball stuff if the 2008 special were last thing ever... I would rather follow the DB Multiverse fanmanga and Young Jijji's works. I didn't really like Toyble's work with his AF, especially when he reintroduced Broly. But the being that Whis and Beerus are great characters, so I would miss them, but I wouldn't miss Resurrection F movie a bit.

Is that because of the quality of the newer stuff, or is it due to being chained in a basement with a scroll and quill being forced to scribe all of it

I guess if we're talking in the vein of us not knowing what we'd be missing, then I'd be fine with it, although I'd be even more upset that we still haven't gotten the thing - though maybe if it was truly the 'last' thing, FUNi would be able to somehow surpass whatever issues there are and get it after all? Either way though, if the JSAT had been the last thing we'd gotten, I think it would have served well enough as one final fun romp with the characters, and seeing as how 'fun' is what I look for the most in the franchise now rather than action (though I love that too), then I'd be perfectly happy with it.

But if we were to somehow know what we'd be missing without it? As in no BOG and beyond? I wouldn't trade that away at all.
