When Goku let's his guard down, it brings out the irate fanboy in a lot of people.

Well, if those people had kept their guard up, the debate wouldn't have gone through them as badly as it did.UpFromTheSkies wrote:When Goku let's his guard down, it brings out the irate fanboy in a lot of people.

How this website doesn't let me post the name Hercule.

While I don't see much point in correcting to "the H-word"(it would be more effective to me if it auto-corrected to Mr. Satan, as I believe it used to be years ago, or Mark), that name that was solely used for censorship even in the FUNimation dub itself. The uncut FUNimation dub refers to him as the proper Mr. Satan. Plus, the site is very international with fans from all around the world. Someone from say, Germany, won't know who "Hercule" is. You don't have French fans here calling Piccolo "Satan's Little Heart".soduh2 wrote:How this website doesn't let me post the name (the H-word).

Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy
It would have been selfish if he insisted on being revived, but he didn't. He wanted to be brought back by his family, and he objected. He made two choices that day: 1) kill himself to save the planet. 2) stay dead. Had Gohan not toyed with Cell, Goku would never have died, and he'd be on Earth anyways, as can be seen when he's revived later on, so where does all this "I attract villains, so I must accept my fate" hooplah come from?rereboy wrote:It was already the second time he had died. He felt satisfied with what he had accomplished, felt that Earth was safe and he felt that it was his time. You can call him selfish for not insisting in being revived, but wouldn't he also be selfish in insisting in being revived for the second time purely because he wanted to? It really can't work just one way, imo. He would be selfish either way. And that's basically how he felt in the Buu saga. He only got revived because it was necessary to fight Buu.
In the Cell and Buu sagas, he's shown to be able to communicate with everyone and see what's happening on Earth. This is shown in that Bojack movie too, canon or not. I am sure in one of those 7 years, he could have asked King Kai to give him a heads up on how his family is and offer some details. >_>;Why would he? Most likely Chichi only knew she was pregnant after Goku died or, if she knew before, she didn't tell him.
Hmmm. Maybe it's just a misconception on my part then, but in the anime, he clearly seems to be saying his goodbyes to everyone.
Nowhere is implied in the manga that he would be leaving them for a very long time without any contact or visits. In fact, the Neko Majin manga implies that such contact was probably frequent. Not to mention that his sons were already adults.
The way EoZ Bulma put it, it seems they do try to contact Goku, but he's probably not around because he's out training. This is frequently shown, such as in BoG and F. Also, again, that 1 year he decided to stay in space to train. Mind you, this is a man who learned instant transmission. A guy who can instantly teleport to anyone's location did not stop by to see his friends for FIVE YEARS. That's kind of a big deal, and says a lot about his character. There's just no excuse. And his friends aren't guilty of the same? Or are you implying that Goku flat out refused meeting them and talking to them when they contacted? Goku is the typical friend in the group that typically won't be the one to initiate social contact, which doesn't mean he's a bad friend, just that the way he works others usually have to initiate it.
Vegeta probably does the same, but he's always shown close to his family. Hell, it's hinted that he has a job. He's a better father too, imo, although that wouldn't be the case if he didn't watch the future version of his son get killed in front of his eyes...How is that different from Vegeta, for example? And when is that aspect focused on any other character showing a great difference? That has more to do with the kind of story Dragon Ball is than anything else.

Maybe I'm reading you wrong but are you holding it against Goku for training on Yardrat for a year?that 1 year he decided to stay in space to train. Mind you, this is a man who learned instant transmission
Vegeta hit Trunks because he was pissed that he got hit, and he's probably around Trunks but he never hugs him and I doubt he ever gave him much attention or encouragement. How is he a better father? While I wouldn't say this make me irate, it is irritating when people claim Vegeta's a better father.
He doesn't do it lightly. He does it when he needs or is allowed to.In the Cell and Buu sagas, he's shown to be able to communicate with everyone and see what's happening on Earth.
Villains do seem to find him.where does all this "I attract villains, so I must accept my fate" hooplah come from?

It's really not. Stuff comes up, you work all day and are tired, and suddenly one day you realize that you haven't talked to your old high school or college friends in a few years. Nah. Just a general statement about one of the many times he hasn't been there. He had his reason for training, but he was absent again, regardless.ABED wrote: Maybe I'm reading you wrong but are you holding it against Goku for training on Yardrat for a year?
That punch was completely impulsive. Vegeta is a very strict/authoritative father. He comes from a race of savages, and was raised to be strong and consider himself elite by his own dad. Vegeta doesn't know of any of this compassion and lovey-dovey nonsense. But for what it's worth, it's heavily stated that he grew to love his family during those 7 years, something he hated himself for because of his previous nature. He is always shown by them, he's implied to have a job, and his role as a father is explored further in GT if that counts. In BoG, he's also shown to be incredibly protective of Bulma, which should also reflect his feelings toward their son in a way. From what is visibly shown, he actually takes on the role of dad full-force, even if he's naturally a detached individual.Vegeta hit Trunks because he was pissed that he got hit, and he's probably around Trunks but he never hugs him and I doubt he ever gave him much attention or encouragement. How is he a better father? While I wouldn't say this make me irate, it is irritating when people claim Vegeta's a better father.
I do indeed consider Vegeta a better father from the little shown.

No, I'm just assuming that you're in the high school-college range, and lack perspective. Yep, I'm 29 and have a hard time finding time to hang out with old friends. We're in different states, we have full time jobs (one is a doctor), some of us are married, and one even has a child. Life gets in the way.No, I'm just assuming that you're in the high school-college range, and lack perspective. MUCH better. That punch was completely impulsive.
How so? How is that any different from Goku? Goku is shown to be affectionate towards his children. Vegeta has a hard time giving a hug. Oh, and he almost let Bulma and baby Trunks die. From what is visibly shown, he actually takes on the role of dad full-force
Yes, he was away training to learn to teleport. By the way, he was only able to learn one technique that year, meaning, he could've stayed longer but chose to leave because he was homesick. He had his reason for training, but he was absent again, regardless.

Out of 1825 days, I am sure you can find the time to see your friends. Not every week. Not once a month. Maybe not even once a year. But in 5 years, there is no excuse if you really value them, especially when you can teleport instantly. There are obviously exceptions to this, as everyone is their own world and distance is an issue irl, but when we apply DBZ logic, there shouldn't be anything impeding a simple interaction or get-together in this time frame.Kamiccolo9 wrote: No, I'm just assuming that you're in the high school-college range, and lack perspective. Vegeta in the Android saga was an unreformed sociopath. I never claimed Goku isn't affectionate or cares for his kids. Of course he does. Vegeta and Goku both care about their family. I just feel Vegeta is the better father figure in general, whereas Goku is more of a pal, and absent too much, either through choice or fate, to be much of a dad for Gohan. Piccolo grows to know him better.ABED wrote: How so? How is that any different from Goku? Goku is shown to be affectionate towards his children. Vegeta has a hard time giving a hug. I'm trying to keep this within the context of the show, where they can teleport, fly at the speed of light, and finish labor duties in seconds. Also, as mentioned, Goku has so much free time! But no. I'm talking about the gap between the Buu saga and EoZ where Bulma yells at Goku for keeping out of touch for 5 years.

Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy
How does a few years make up for the crap before? Even if Vegeta is around, that doesn't mean he was a great father. Proximity doesn't make him a good parent. Give examples of his good fatherhood.Vegeta in the Android saga was an unreformed sociopath. Piccolo grows to know him better.
While Goku is gone a lot, he's also around his family often off screen. He was there for Gohan the first 5 years of his life, then after Namek, he was there for 3 years, and after coming back he was there for about 7 of them. And how does Piccolo know Gohan better?
