I'm really not a fan of the curret animation we are seeing in Dragon Ball. Everything just seems off, the characters don't quite look like themselves anymore. Their hair is usally too short, their face shape doesn't look right, a lot of the characters look too thin, and i don't think they blend in well with the backgrounds like they used to. Either CGI animation doesn't work for Dragon Ball or it's just not being done right. I personally think it's just not being done right because the two videos you posted above looks more like how Dragon Ball should be done now.

He was character designer and animation supervisor but all of the key animators were talented and working from a storyboard and direction by Nagamine Tatsuya. It could be Nagamine asked Yamamuro to not correct as much. Then again, it could be that Yamamuro wasn't even allowed to correct at all.

Here's my attempt at correcting that Vegeta shot (my correction is on the left):

I used some Z screenshots as a reference point.

What I did was lowered his eyes and nose a bit, and centered them better. I also repositioned his mouth, since it wasn't quite aligned, and I redid the wrinkle to be under his mouth, since more upset reactions in Z tended to place that wrinkle there to show more of a grimace. I redid the cheekbone shading, and I completely redrew his nose, since it was too trangular, short and simplified, and I also pulled in and sharpened his jawline. I extended the wrinkles under his eyes and added shading to the edge, since that was they tended to look in the Buu arc, and I also extended his upper brow wrinkle slightly. I extended his hair since it was way too short, and also added a few strands. I also eliminated that plastic shine, since it just looks bad, as well as the hair shading, since it looked to much like plastic. I also drew in his ear lobe and I also extended some lines in his ear, since it looked incomplete and mushy originally.

I'd like to think I covered everything.

Awesome job metalwario! I, too, hate the shine effect they place on the hair and how plastic their faces look nowadays.

My two cents on the animation quality and art style critiques: seems pretty stinkin' fair considering this is a forum about an animated show. Probably one of the most valid forms of criticism on here actually. A better use of time would be to counter argue with how you like the way things look, or how you're maybe indifferent to them. I mean, talking about how the show is presented to us—sounds like a worthwhile discussion to me.

The plastic shine adds more depth only when it's done correctly.

Can't point out the difference. It just looks "right" to me.
For adding depth, an extra layer of shading would do much better than those things.
Also, I dislike the way they draw straight hair now. It's just too lazy. Especially in the manga.

Looks like a stray hair to me. Also, Imma guess that's Vegeta's arm to the right of Goku, maybe? Arms crossed, as per usual!

I've attempted to translate the text in that page, and it seems to indicate that Gohan and Videl are already married, so apparently we won't see the wedding unless they show a flashback
Also it seems we finally have a time frame!
