Raditz tail conundrum.
But both her parents had dark hair, so that makes sense.
In humans, it's true that dark hair is usually dominant over light hair. But Bulma doesn't have light hair. She has purple hair. Or green. One of them. But in any case, it's not a natural hair colour that we have on our Earth, so it's possible that purple hair is actually dominant over black hair on the Dragon World.

Oh, yeah. I like her. She's cool. But Bra and Marron... Admittedly, they both take after their mothers.Jerseymilk wrote:Um, I think you're forgetting about Pan.
Actually, I just remembered. My Aunt Vicky's hair is dirty-ish blonde. And I think her parents are both bruntettes (Er... I think I spelled that right...). Weird. o.o;;

Actually, it's natural. A few years ago, I went to Canada with my grandparents, and, after we picked up V at an airport in Maine, she wondered if she was adopted because of her hair color. Plus, all the pics I've seen of her have her blonde.PsyLiam wrote:That lots of women dye their hair. This is not a shocking statement.

That shouldn't be possible, though. Dominant and recessive hair and eye color are both genetically expressed -- it's just that darker colors tend to be phenotypically dominant. IIRC, a person with the gene for blue eyes (b) and the gene for brown eyes (B) actually has both genes being expressed simultaneously. It's just that you can't see the (b) gene physically expressed because the brown coloration is darker.PsyLiam wrote:But both her parents had dark hair, so that makes sense.

I would expect a similar result in the DB universe. Trunks and Bra should have both the lighter hair color and darker hair color genes expressed at the same time. Since black hair is darker than purple, it should be the observable coloration.
It doesn't seem like Vegeta's Saiya-jin hair and eye coloration genes are just recessive -- they're basically dormant and not expressed at all.

Did you know you have an answer to this question in the Daizenshuu thread too? And as I said there, I wasn't at all implying such a thing. Just asking an honest question.PsyLiam wrote:That lots of women dye their hair. This is not a shocking statement.

Well, we are debating an anime with it's fair share of plot holes. Not nearly as many as GT but still. DB/Z aren't exactly explainable sometimes.

I suppose this could be explained away by saying that Saiyans don't actually have any genes for their hair colour...it's just always black by default.James R. But then, we have seen Saiyans with brown hair, such as Vegeta's dad (and Veggie himself in those very early episodes). Those are both filler (or colourisations done before Toriyama gave TOEI "official" ones). Did we ever see any full blooded Saiyans in the manga with non-black hair?

All full-blooded Saiya-jins have black hair, period. Except for their tails and Oozaru forms, those are brown.

What are you basing that on? As I said, King Vegeta had brown hair, and I think Nappa did too in the Bardock special. So are you saying that all full blooded Saiyans seen in the Manga had black hair, period? Or all full blooded Saiyans seen outside of filler episodes in the anime had black hair, period?

I, sadly, have no Manga's of my own to sift though. However, I do believe Toriyama-sama once said in an interview something along the lines of all Saiya-jins having black hair. It's been a few years since I've seen that so I could be tottaly wrong.
However, I do know that, outside of the scenes TOEI made themselves, no full blooded Saiya-jin has had anything but black hair. Also, there's the comment made by Vegeta when Trunks first appears. I can't remember it word for word but, beyond the fact that he and Goku are the last full blooded Saiya-jin's, its because of the color of his hair Vegeta seriously doubts Trunks is a Saiya-jin.
I have yet to figure out why Vegeta had brown hair in the early episodes of the series... probably just another stupid mistake during production. Like the sudden change in his and Nappa's armors.

That was what I'd thought at first too, the light of the atmosphere caused it. Of course, that was back when I thought nothing in DBZ could be bad/stupid/etc... and I thought all the bad voices of the first season were good
Of course, they were scores beyond a lot of the second season voices.... and now I'm getting off topic. (As if that's possible in this thread, I don't think Raditz has been mentioned in at least a page.)
P.S.: On another off-topic note, the chat room is either empty or just plain dead every time I go in

Surely the first and second season voices were largely the same?
And I still say that it wasn't stupidity, but merely the fact that they didn't have a colour scheme, so they made one up. And obviously weren't aware of the "Saiyans have black hair" rule, since we'd only seen two Saiyans at this point in the series.
So, possibly a bit stupid for not phoning up Toriyama and saying "Yo, Akira, what colour do you be wanting these bitchin' new ho's to be, you dig?"

The remaining Ginyu Force members had horid voices for one. There were others, but, I've not seen the first two seasons in a while.

Yes, you're correct. TOEI had created many Saiyans in filler scenes with multi hair colors, prior to Vegeta saying that all Saiyans had black hair in the Trunks saga.PsyLiam wrote:Surely the first and second season voices were largely the same?

However it's interesting to note; even though King Vegeta had brown hair in the Freeza saga, his hair becae black in DBZ movie 8 in aragus' flashback.
