TheGreatness25 wrote:I'm just curious how people imagine this being. What would set a gay character apart from a straight character? Dragon Ball isn't about romance, so it's not like there would be a big romance story. At most, a gay character would have someone of the same sex as a husband/wife or whatever. But Dragon Ball not being romance-based, there would be no in-depth relationship between the two. So now you have a character whose ONLY homosexual quality is that he/she has a partner of the same sex, who is a minor character.Unless of course it plays into the comedy somehow, which would become offensive. So really, in what way can a character be homosexual? Lunch could be a lesbian. Just like Chaozu could be homosexual. Hell, Tenshinhan could be homosexual. It does not bring any sort of real grand story to the character because romance is not factored into Dragon Ball and therefore, sexual orientation would not be anything more than a distant background of the character.

I hope I'm making sense. Basically what I'm saying is because DB isn't romance oriented and homosexuality is something that relates to romance, it would not contribute much to a character. And if DB were to take a urn into the romance field, I think it would just ruin the story. So sexual preference wouldn't add much to a character. Yamucha's straight because he had a girlfriend and then chased girls. But none of that was a focus of the story. If he was gay, he'd chase guys. So what? It would be a 30 second filler segment. UNLESS it became such a pivotal part of the character, in which case, it would become a mockery and offensive stereotype if he/she was made to "act" gay.
You're making sense and at the same time pointing out how inexplicably huge issue it is for some people that they spend page after page coming up with excuses why it shouldn't be done, no matter how small it would actually be. Bra having a girlfriend that we see in 2 episodes or Goten having a boyfriend that we see in 1 episode is just too much for some people to handle which is simply puzzling.

So I know this topic hasn't had any activity for a while, but since Whis was brought up on this topic, I'd like to mention that in Super episode 3, Whis' reaction to a naked Beerus is to turn away, blush and say words to the effect of "Oh my, Lord Beerus!"

Also, Dumbledore being gay is a piece of trivia that isn't present in the books at all.
It's not brought up in any meaningful way, you can read his relationship with Grindelwald is more than platonic.

If Tenshinhan was confirmed as being gay, it would make sense, but as of now, when people talk about him being gay, it always comes across as something to snicker at Tenshinhan and Chaozu for.

He was in the pool!

Feline penes are covered in fleshy barbs, to scratch the vaginal walls and induce ovulation. This, understandably, is somewhat painful for the female, and is why cat sex is so noisy.

Yeah, but he got out thus he allowed Whis to see his... Nevermind, this is too off-topic! :x

Anyway, Whis, at first, struck me as a homosexual villian like General Blue but without any of the humor that came with Blue. It seemed as if he was going to be that homosexual character Trunks had to face at the EoZ (as in, he would be an unfunny character and the joke was "haha, look at how gay he is, hohohoho" and not [at least how I saw it] "oh, look at this strong homosexual character whose giving Goku trouble" and the girly things said homosexual character does).

However, after watching Battle of Gods, it turned out Whis was a charming and interesting character in his own right, especially with being the strongest known character in Dragon Ball, currently. It definitely made him into another General Blue. Well, despite not being actually being outright stated as homosexual, but the recent episode of Dragon Ball Super kind of hints to it.

btw, if you're wondering why my post is so off-topic, it's because I haven't read the OP

It was a Seinfeld reference.

By all means, please do, it's brilliant.
It was a reference to male shrinkage.

Y'know, I thought it would be pretty funny if Champa's assistant turned out to be Whis's ex-girlfriend. That type of backstory would probably create a lot of funny interactions between the two characters. I really hope I'm right.

You might read into it or you might not. There's not a strong implication besides strong friendship, which is why "everyone" was surprised when Rowling revealed it. If there had been any kind of strong suggestion or implication, there wouldn't be such a surprise.

I had previously stated that I doubted that a gay or similar character could be included in Dragon Ball without it being jarring or without it seeming like agenda. After seeing the latest things about Whis, including his blushing that basically confirms his gayness, I have to say that they actually succeeded it in doing it because I don't find Whis jarring, nor does he feel like agenda. Well done.

why would whis be gay?
i never viewed him as gay.

but onto the topic. i dont want the villains in the series to be sexual at all. if i think about it i dont want anyone to be sexual in the series.

no it didnt bother me because it was a bit here and there but nothing which was there all the time. if the next villain for example would be sexual ( i know this sounds kind of weird) and it is a big part of his character such scenes would be in there way to often imo. also i wouldnt be able to take him seriously.

for example i dont like the scenes with roshi where he is a pervert. which happens very often.
