Why is Supreme Kai so incompetent and not knowledgable?

One thing that bugs me about Supreme Kai is he's supposed to be the leader of all the Kai's in the universe (especially after Buu killed all the others), but most of the time he's shown as incompetent and not knowing anything. We see Elder Kai constantly explain things to him he seems clueless about especially in Super about Beerus. Then back in the Buu saga Supreme Kai had no idea that Goku and the others were stronger than Babidi's henchmen like Pui Pui or Yakon, etc.

I mean, I don't get it? Its not like he's played for humor either the same way King Kai is where he's supposed to be goofy. Supreme Kai is just...clueless half the time. Its even more noticeable in Super because we still have Elder Kai explaining to him about Beerus that he didn't know much about.

The running gag is that Gods are useless in Dragon Ball, although the Kaiou of the North seems to be exempt from this running gag. The God of Earth is always complaining, useless, or trying to take the easy way out or shove his responsibilities off onto others. The joke with Kaiou-shin is that he has no clue what it is he's talking about, ever. It's actually quite humorous to see how useless gods are in the series, it's always some schmucks who save the day.

When Buu wiped out all of the Kaioshin, East Kaioshin was left alone without anyone to teach him the ropes.

The fact that he was already the weakest and least experienced out of his brethren didn't help either.

Kaio-Sama himself was unaware of the Androids and Cell until Goku told him probably because he is watching over a whole galaxy, I guess the same applies to Kaioshin who observes several times more activity than Kaio-Sama and is the most important and busy figure in the creation of life and planets. They're not incompetent or inherently unknowledgable but just ignorant of the details, some specific events happen in specific places within DB's recent timeline. With there being only 6 entities who watch trillions of living things and planets they really can't drop all they do and pay attention to random Earthlings, Saiyans, and Namekians.

The gods in DB are basically just regular dudes, who have monumental responsibilities. Characters don't have the perspective we have. He's not omnipresent and omniscient. He can know for sure that the Saiyans are strong, without knowing the full calculated extent to which they are. Plus, PTSD can be pretty shitty.

It all adds up, convincingly enough to me, to account for his behavior and performance with the Buu crisis.

Yea they're not annually. The meetings are held every 1,000 years.

Actually what I got from the episode wasn't that he didn't know about Beerus, but rather that he didn't know how powerful and dangerous Beerus was.

That was also the same girl who was also able build a scouter drone out of scraps on a desert island, a laser gun at the age of five, a blutz wave generator and a time machine.

As for Dr Gero, his inventions even amazed Bulma. But not fulling understanding the personalities of #17 or #18 was a bit of blunder on his regard.
