I'm a bit skeptical about that last one, because IIRC it wasn't that he was lifting some kind of super dense material but Kaioh used his powers to change the weight of the material. At first he had on 2 tons and then it changed to 40 tons without any physical alteration in the weights. So we really don't know how that works.
The weights did get a bit bigger.

Hmm... not sure if they're bigger. Could just be art inconsistency. Anyway, I think it's safe to say that flying while lifting weights is much harder.

What about density? Size won't matter if things aren't dense enough to justify the weight.

They do appear to increase in size. I believe the Anime shows this as well.

When South Kaiou changes them to ten tons a piece, you see they go from looking like "padding" to a more solid, rigid structure, and it's a lot easier to see when it's not a crappy scanslation.
