Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I miss all this. I miss how intimidating the villains were, it was unreal and gave you that sense of threat and fear.

Resurrection 'F' spoiler:
Spoiler:
Besides the censoring of that scene, it created no real impact. First of all, SSGSS Goku was pierced by a mook. Secondly, everyone just stood there like retards while Frieza did his thing. Third, Frieza simply was not a threat, so naturally, there was no sense of it or fear. Even if Goku was down, I doubt it's much of a surprise Vegeta gained a new power. Then, there's Beerus and Whis in the background. The scene did nothing. Frieza in F wasn't intimidating.
All those villains on Namek, including pre-F Frieza, were because they were genuinely a threat Gohan and Krillin could do nothing against. All they could do was watch as they slaughtered innocent people, including children.

If you want tension and a threat, you have BoG and the U6 arc.
BoG had zero tension since we saw EOZ. U6 arc hasn't even aired yet... so is that really a good example?
Regarding new animation. I posted this on a different DBZ forum
Spoiler:
Turns out fans worldwide (shows how many people are bootlegging series)
had an uproar about Episode 5's animation. Amazing how everyone talking about it. This website (Google translate) explains what happen.
Kindergarten level drawing of new anime "Dragon Ball than"? Right hand after another scream to the left of the base zeta!
They called it kindergarten level drawings lmao
However, the completion of the first broadcast of the July 5, would be the voice of discontent viewers hear little by little, Episode 5 "Sakai-o star battle! Goku VS destruction God Wills that was broadcast on August 9 it was decided to explode ". "Drawing is I'm too bad. Viewer from the beginning was initially feel uncomfortable I were many, but is drawn for the first time a full-fledged battle scene in five episodes that have been broadcast the other day, where I was I have a stretch pulling everyone . to move hard, to perspective's Burebure, look in'm like dag, it is the kindergarten level to be honest.
Toei Animation is a production source, in the budget of convenience the Philippines and India, it is said that because they've been entrusted to the production company that does not barely know the" Dragon Ball ". Frequently the thing in the cheap production costs this world This is it.
So..Dragonball Super is being drawn or animated with the budget/talents of India's cartoons? This is how an Indian cartoon look btw

Resurrection 'F' spoiler:
Spoiler:
Tension has been missing from the series since this modern crap started. BoG was laughable and felt like more of a captain planet story than anything. RoF was another joke. They've taken the fangs out of dragonball to cater to the spongebob (whatever japanese equivalent that would be) audience.
Baggie_Saiyan wrote:They haven't taken the "Fangs" out of Dragonball at all. It is always been like this moreso the first half of the manga/original anime.

In dragonball sure, but not Z.
And this is Dragon Ball Super, what's your point?
That they've taken the fangs out of the franchise and it's taken a step back. At least when Z adopted a different tone, it widly reimagined Goku as an alien from another planet and introduced a plethora of different things that made it what it is. Super hasn't, instead it's rehashing old tropes and adding absolutely nothing of value.

A while back Shida Naotoshi tweeted this cool picture he took of some of his genga drawings. The one of Super Saiyan 3 Son Gokuu is from One Piece Episode #590.

That is hardly anything, trust me. DBZ had far more vile moments than that.
It's pretty bad how they're scaling it down a notch these days for younger audiences..

How is going back to its roots a bad thing?
It's not even going back to its roots, really. That would imply it's going back to an emphasis on adventure.
Besides, Dragon Ball was darker and had much more "improper" humor. Super and the new movies are more like a pussified DBZ.

Toriyama wrote:...and then, I’ve written a strange new story where they finally depart from this universe. They’re fighting against their neighbors, Universe 6! They’ll yell at me if I give away too many spoilers, so I’ll keep the rest a secret, but they’re chasing after giant Super Dragon Balls; I think things will unfold in a bright and simple way, that will be really fun and exciting!

Only the two DBZ specials were dark, the rest of the series was not.
And the original Dragon Ball only got 'serious' with the Daimao arc, an arc that ends up just as stupid as the F movie.
The only problem with the Dragonball Super artwork is that it doesn't even look like Goku Lol. It looks like some random nobody drew it. The flow of the animation is extremely choppy as well.

We don't really know anything about that arc. I'm referring to what we've gotten so far from the new movies and Super.
I meant Dragon Ball was darker, not dark. I recall the RRA arc being the start of a shift in tone. Nothing too extreme.

We don't need to know much, they're leaving our universe, entering a different one and are chasing Dragon Balls. All of the arcs in the series where the main focus was to get all the DBs had a great focus on adventure.
And F is darker than most part 1 arcs. It has no tension, the villain is a joke and it's shit, but it still portrays itself as a dark and serious movie, which it is. What's your complaint here? It's not as dark as it used to be? Blame the Boo arc. It's not as good as it used to be? Blame the Boo arc.
