I have to agree with you here. Trunks' story is reminiscent of the Terminator. (1) The chaos brought upon by "machines", (2) The savior from the future travelling through some sort of time-altering stuff, (3) The warning of what's about to happen in the future and the request of getting ready for it. Sometimes, it makes me wonder if Mr. Toriyama indeed ripped some concepts off the Terminator movie. But nonetheless, it was a great touch to DBZ. It was indeed dark.

But in my opinion, Freeza's Saga is probably the darkest saga in the series. Most of my arguments have been given above already. The Freeza saga was carefully thought of thus giving so much impact to viewers. Although now, Freeza's pretty weak compared to the succeeding villains, his character, by far, is the most effective villain in the whole series which made the saga pretty dark.

The main theme here is just the large amount of death. I mean, even Chichi, Bulma, and everyone else dies. It seems as if Toriyama had been waiting for years to kill these characters, just for the hell of it.
And Mr. Satan survives getting killed, because he's one of Toriyama's favorite characters. :P

I think the Buu saga is the darkest since it was the apocolypse of Dragon World.

The second darkest saga, in my opinion, is the Dark Dragons saga (AKA the THIRD apocolypse of Dragon World).
I also go by "veemonjosh".

The darkest saga would be the Buu saga like when Buu killed that man by going inside his body and blowing him up from the inside, pure evil!
Also the earth was blown up. When Super Buu gobbled up Vegetto it seemed like it was all over. (my friends actually thought DBZ ended at that episode. )

I was first thinking of Frieza saga because the music was creepy :P but then thought of the Android/Cell sagas and then finally settled on the Buu saga because so may were killed.

It's gotta be the Freeza saga.

I love the music in the second clip.

The Buu Saga had the worst for the heroes, but it wasn't emphasized as much as it was in the Freeza saga, with every drop of pain savored. But Buu pretty much killed and destroyed everyone, and they were always in a desperate scramble to find whatever they could to fight him only to have Buu either steal it or find a way around anything thrown at him.

Then again, Freeza and Cell did that too, but there was never any moment aside from Vegito when he was completely outclassed, whereas the Freeza and Cell sagas each had their moments when the heroes dominated for a while.

I agree; I felt much more for the heroes in the Freeza saga than any of the others.

Didn't either of you notice that this was a HUGE necropost?

Which is somewhat against the rules.

I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.
