Opinions about Goku and Vegeta's god status

Post by PolatGuy92 » Fri Aug 21, 2015 4:49 pm

So after the events of BOG and Resurrection of F Goku and eventually Vegeta have now officially obtained god status. Though I believe that they are not pure gods like Beerus and Whis so they are also still mortals.

So my question is: How do you guys think about the fact that Goku and Vegeta are now basically gods?

Personally my opinion: I rather still like them as just normal mortal beings. Warriors that loves to fight strong beings like gods, monsters, demons, other warriors, andriods and tyrants that they can face and overcome their limits. Because I don't know... when I think about a god I think about someone that is incredibly OP and that can take down almost everyone, or someone that is almost or is a omnipotent being. Perhaps this has something to do with the western comic books (DC and Marvel) and the way they handle god like characters, and no haha I don't want necessarily compare these franchises with Dragon Ball since Dragon Ball are handling things way more different then the westers comic books.

But personally I don't quite like the way gods are treated in the Dragon Ball universe they are often considerd as a joke or maybe even weak like the Supreme Kai. It's just my taste of how I view a god like being and I think it will also happen to Beerus as the story progresses but who knows what might happen by that time.

I think if Goku or Vegeta reach that kinda level it should be at the end of the series now God feel so awkward for me as it's just to soon for them. So how are you guys thinking about Goku's and Vegeta's gods status positive of negative? Let me know what you guys think :D

Toriyama's on record as saying he likes the gods in his stories to be a bit shit, hardly different than ordinary people. So in that light, Goku and Vegeta becoming gods doesn't really change too much. It's basically just all hype, a way of marketing the new forms that will make a bigger impression than just "Super Saiyan 5". In DB theological terms, it really just means they're officially on par with the likes of Dende now.

I still think any race should have only one god to represent them. A army with Saiyan Gods seems stupid.
So, Goku being the new saiyan god would leave Vegeta out.

To become God, the Saiyan should be a full-blooded and be directly connected to Planet Vegeta, otherwise he wouldn't make it (This to make it different from ssj forms).
Any saiyan could still join the ritual though.

Important to say, that a Saiyan God created from 6 full-blooded saiyans would be much stronger. than one created from a mix like Goku was.

I also like to add consequences to these things.
So, the price for becoming OP/God would leave the character unable to be revived by the Dragon Balls again. The next time he died it would be Game Over.
And after that, a new saiyan god could be born.

At least, that's how I would write it. I should write a fanfiction.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I'd like for them being Gods to mean something more other than them being magically a lot stronger now. I feel there should be some responsibilities or consequences for two Gods basically popping up suddenly. Maybe it'll get addressed in Super but could just as easily not be. This is Dragon Ball so stuff like that just never gets brought up.

"Super Saiyan God" is just the name of a Saiyan transformation. Goku and Vegeta are NOT gods.

It's the name of a transformation...that turned them into gods. This is talked about at length in BOG and the interviews.

We don't really know if they are still technically gods right now or not though now. They are tapping into Super Saiyan God's power, but it seems people are able to sense their battle powers again and Goku seems to be unable to sense Beerus and Whis for Shunkan-ido...so they may be demigods or something now? Who knows.

Yeah they don't seem to have changed non-power wise I read that Goku and Vegeta asked Whis for help because they couldn't sense Beerus and Whis's Ki, just like Goku couldn't sense Beerus pre-SSG. Also from the Blu-ray trailer Vegeta say "I too have the power of a God", it would strike me as odd if he was a God and not just say I too am a God.

Toriyama has said such things like "now that Goku is a god..." Which would imply that SSG has given Goku and Vegeta divine rank. But as Herms explained, they are pretty much just super strong Dende's more or less.

The whole not being able to sense Beerus & Whis thing could be because their Temple is really, really far away so its hard for Goku to pinpoint it. Its probably even beyond the reach of King Kai. That is unless there were other scenes in FnF that debunk this.

Beerus' tempe is within the "mortal" universe; the living portion with all the regular planets. That should be easier to find than the Kaioshin Realm, with Goku is shown teleporting to and from.

Yes but New Namek was also there and Goku needed assistance to reach it from King Kai. Beerus mostly slept in-between movies so I doubt he was giving off much energy and Whis likely wouldn't keep his raised just in-case Goku & Vegeta wanted to arrive there. Kibito Kai could technically get them there easily given his ability to teleport anywhere but there could be rules against him just randomly popping up at Beerus' temple. It could also be a case for him not wanting to involve the Saiyan's anymore with Beerus than they already are.

Beerus' temple being too far away couldn't be the problem because, if that were the case, Goku wouldn't be able to sense Freeza to travel back to Earth.

Everyone powered up to give him an idea of where Freeza was though, they had to do it at the same time and to their max for it to work. However, the movie visualizes that he locked on to Freeza meaning one of two things. Either Freeza joined in it as he clearly overheard their plan to get Goku quicker, or Goku picked up Freeza's ki once the others gave him a good idea of where he was.

Given that he doesn't immediately resort to IT but asks Whis to get them there first to me implies he can't just teleport back to Earth.

Well, we don't know if that was because of their godly ki. Goku also couldn't sense ki from Earth in Beerus' place because it was too far, and everyone had to power-up to their max in order for him to sense them, while Beerus & Whis are just sleeping & relaxing there.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

We've had this discussion. Goku speaks in the present tense about not being able to sense Beerus and Whis while he's standing there next to them. If the only reason he couldn't sense them was because they were too far away, that would likely have been added to the statement.

I don't know. I seem to remember Piccolo making a comment on Goku and Freeza's power prior to their transformations that wasn't in Toriyama's script. I could be mistaken on what is said though, as I only have the script for reference.

The dragons have been called gods multiple times, and they certainly have the abilities to back it up. But Piccolo was able to kill Shenlong fairly easily.

Gokuu trained with Earth's god and could have replaced him, but he chose to shack up with Chichi instead. He also trained with an even greater god (Kaiou) and mastered his signature techniques. Kuririn, Yamcha, Tenshinhan, Chaozu, and Piccolo trained with those gods too. Cell inadvertently killed Kaiou too.

Kaioushin was an even greater god than them, but it's become kind of a meme to talk about how useless and foolish he was. His ancestor gave Gohan a divine powerup, and their special earrings created Vegetto. Boo was also a villain that had killed or absorbed other Kaioushin.

So I don't see the big deal about Gokuu and Vegeta being labeled gods now. They basically already were. As were many other cast members, including Chaozu.

But I'm also just fond of the idea of flawed gods with varying statuses and abilities.

As people have said, being a god means nothing by itself. There are all kinds of different gods with all kinds of different responsibilities and powers. Some of them are really strong and some of them are not that strong.
