I can't speak for Jacob, but while I don't hate Yamamuro as an animator, I do think his storyboarding is pretty poor. Revival of 'F' was pretty bland in its compositions. Lots of dull, eye level shots, and uncreative camera work. It was made up for by some pretty decent animation, but I don't think that's going to be the case with Super.Araki wrote:I don't know why #13 should 'look painful" based on Yamamuro, unless one hates him to the point of hating his storyboarding, but that's extremely subjective.

While I don't expect Shida to do key animation for Episode #11 it should be noted that he has done key animation for episodes he has storyboard before, to say nothing of key animation under Animation Supervisor Tate Naoki.Araki wrote:#10 has the same animation supervisor from #2, and i liked how that episode looked. Shimanuki is sticking around as i expected, and #11 with the Shida/Tate combo should be promising IF Tate had the time now.
Pretty much. Yamamuro doesn't have any directing sense so it drags down whatever he oversees.Ajay wrote:I can't speak for Jacob, but while I don't hate Yamamuro as an animator, I do think his storyboarding is pretty poor. Shida has storyboarded Episodes #2 and #7, so this doesn't necessarily mean he will do key animation, just because he is the storyboard artist.FortuneSSJ wrote:Holy cow! We got Shida in the battlefield. Great news.JulieYBM wrote: Episode #11:

Yeah, 11 is promising judging by the names alone. I really hope they had time to work on it.JulieYBM wrote: While I don't expect Shida to do key animation for Episode #11 it should be noted that he has done key animation for episodes he has storyboard before, to say nothing of key animation under Animation Supervisor Tate Naoki.

Regarding Yamamuro, i think the problem is that he had too much power in the movie, which he also directed, and that was not a position he's used to.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
World Trigger Series Director Hongou Mitsuru is leaving the series after Episode #48. With Ogawa Kouji directing Episode #49 I almost suspect he might be promoted to series director, which would leave Ogawa unable to work on Dragon Ball Super. World Trigger was the first Toei Animation series Hongou Mitsuru worked on, so I'm not entirely sure if he plans on sticking around. Maybe he'll return to Bones to lead the second Tenkai Knights? It would be interesting to see him work on Dragon Ball Super, though.
I think the biggest problem is that he began directing far too late in his career. Animators who make the jump from animation to directing typically do it while still young. Yamashita Hiroyuki from Studio Pierrot or Sessha Gorou are good examples of this, because they're still at that point where its easy for them to learn from the talented directors around them. Yamamuro doesn't seem to have picked up anything from his years working with good directors. In the absence of strong staff under him it is the director whom everything falls to try and raise the level of a work.Araki wrote: Regarding Yamamuro, i think the problem is that he had too much power in the movie, which he also directed, and that was not a position he's used to.

I'm watching ep #9 and I think it is one of the poorest animation example I have found in years.

I really liked the animation. The fight gets serious next week. I'm expecting some Shida epicness. *cross fingers*

Shida most likely isn't doing any key animation. He was busy working on cuts for One Piece and only finished recently.FortuneSSJ wrote:-Episode 10-

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
I've doubted for a while that Shida would do any key animation for this arc. His last work on Dragon Ball as an animator was One Piece Episode #590, back in 2013. My guess is if he does anything for Dragon Ball Super it will be either at the end of the Golden Freeza arc or during the Universe Six arc.
With any luck Hayashi Yuuki and Watanabe Koudai will be joining Tate Naoki as key animators for Episode #11. If they have a high enough drawing count they could probably pull off some nice action.

The little bits they showed in the NEP reminds me of some of the high quality stuff we've gotten here and there for some of the games.FortuneSSJ wrote:-Episode 11-

Yamamuro Tadayoshi was not only storyboarder in episode 12, but also animation supervisor (along Kitano Yukihiro) and chief animation supervisor.
If anything, this shows he will be more than a character designer. ED2 is also entirely his work, but that was to be expected.

Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
Judging from the look of next episode preview, it appears that Yoshitaka Yashima will be the animation supervisor for #14. I have seen his work enough that I could tell that he will work on the next episode.
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru's #1 biggest fan
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" Animation Staff Discussion
That Yamamuro has been MIA this long had me thinking he was busy doing the designs for the upcoming arcs. He probably spent a good chunk of time working on Episode #13, though. Episode Director Satou Masanori is also credited as the assistant episode director, so I'm thinking Satou's real role in the episode was merely seeing through Yamamuro's storyboard while the latter focused on the animation aspect.Araki wrote:Yamamuro Tadayoshi was not only storyboarder in episode 12, but also animation supervisor (along Kitano Yukihiro) and chief animation supervisor.

Normally this would have been Ide Takeo's next episode as chief animation supervisor. Instead, Ide was but a key animator while Yamamuro was the chief animation supervisor, overseeing Kitano Yukihiro's A-Part. I'm thinking Yamamuro took direct control for the B-Part.
Yamamuro was credited for key animation, but hell if I can tell what he did.
Takahashi Yuuya did the one saving grace of the episode. It's a shame he didn't have more time or drawings to do more cuts, the short bit he did feels like it went to waste given just how blah the rest of the episode was in terms of directing and staging.

Episode #14-18 staff!
The storyboard for Episode #16 is by Nakajima Ootsura. The animation supervisor, Iseki Shuu'ichi, works for Studio Khara. Maybe he'll ask some contacts of his to work on the episode? These two names could be mistaken listings, so keep that in mind.
Episode #18 is storyboarded by Shida Naotoshi with Tate Naoki as animation supervisor. This should be interesting to see given it is seven weeks after Episode #11.
Episode #14 is directed and storyboarded by Hatano Morio, who did the same for Episode #6. Hatano is one of the best directors left at Toei Animation.14 ED/SB Morio Hatano AD Tatsuya Oka
15 ED Hideki Hiroshima SB/AD Yoshitaka Yashima
16 ED Mikami Misato SB 中島太貫 (literally who) AD 井関修一 (weird, but both mags list)
17 ED/SB Masanori Sato AD Osamu Ishikawa
18 SB Naotoshi Shida ED Takao Iwai AD Naoki Tate

Huh, if that's true, then that could be a very exciting episode to look at. He's worked on some beautiful projects. I hope it's not a mistake, but it's a weird project for him to be attached to.JulieYBM wrote:The animation supervisor, Iseki Shuu'ichi, works for Studio Khara. Yeah, it's weird. It could just be a mistake, but who knows? Toei Animation occasionally gets some really weird, out-of-left-field staff.
