I don't know if I hate fandoms, but I've become so disappointed in it that it feels just as horrible, whatever it is I feel towards fandom. It's easy to go out into the real world, interact with people in reality, then come home to the internet and find people who are just plain terrible.

Then again, if you talk long enough with someone in real life they'll just wind up disappointing you, too.

Life sucks.

It's not wrong that you hate most of the fandom (at least the English speaking one), because most of the fandom is composed of noobs that only like the dub (of Z,they never seen original Dragon Ball, hated GT) and Falcouner music and they think they know everything.

Noob is a pretty immature term, don't you think? What is even that supposed to mean? People aren't "noobs" If they prefer the Team Faulconer score. Also, you've said you hated GT yourself on more than one occasion, so wouldn't you fall into that catergory of a "noob"?

There's bad things about all sides of the DB fandom, not just dub fans. That goes for every fandom too.

I can understand where you're coming from.

I generally find the Broly fanatics, purists (Kai/Super haters), fans who refuse to ever try the Japanese anime or only watched Z annoying when they spread false rumours and misinformation within the community.

However I find specific members of the Youtube community (Geekdom101, Qaaman, Blackenfist, MistareFusion, etc) to be great assets to the Dragon Ball fandom as they are very knowledgeable about the franchise, do their research and are always very assertive in their efforts to educate people.

For what it's worth... Outside of a couple of close friends, this is pretty much the only group of Dragon Ball fans I care to talk about the franchise with for more than five minutes.

For the most part, you guys and gals are allllllll right.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I'm sorry, man, but that is my opinion. Dub sucks and so does the Falconer music. They changed the script so fucking much, its embarrassing. The japanese original version will always be better and the only way to watch the show the way its actually meant to be watched. When you change the actual script that was in the manga, i think you got the problem there.

I agree, those youtubers are great in spreading the actual true informations. Any way that they can help the fandom is great.

"The only way to watch the show is the Japanese." THIS is what I hate about the fandom. Elitism, plain and simple.
Also you never even answered my question. What is a "noob?" If someone is a noob for liking Bruce Faulconer and hating GT, wouldn't you be a noob too since you hate GT?

We're all fans here. Sure some people can be rude and obnoxious but there's no reason for the constant bashing of other sides.

That's just as bad as a dub fan saying the original sucks.

The scrip being changed doesn't mean anything besides it being different from the original. Whether the changes are negative or positive in that particular case is subjective. An original anime with bad dialog could greatly benefit from changes that actually improved the dialog, for example. Whether they should change it or not is a discussion more related with the ethics of translations and adaptations than it is related to the actual quality since, like I said, it's perfectly possible for the changes to actually be better than what was there originally.

Dbzfan94, ignore the GT part, i made a mistake there, that part doesn't matter. I hope you'll get the full Dragon Ball experince in its true form one day. I was a dub fan but when i saw the original version, i never went back. It was a pinnacle of my Dragon Ball " fanboyism career".

See that's been the problem. I like many parts of the dub myself but the problem was when things were made up by Funimation (i.e. Bardock being a brilliant scientist). Dub fans can enjoy these episodes, but they just need to be wary when they post on forums etc and remember not all of what they hear is true.

Honestly if dub fans prefer their dub (whether it be Ocean, Funimation in-house, Kai, whatever) that's their prerogative, I never force my opinions on anyone but they will never know how good the original version of the series is unless they give it a chance.

I have the entire manga and I've seen parts of the series in Japanese. It's great and all but I still prefer the dub and Faulconer for Freeza-Buu. It has flaws yes, especially early on but it doesn't bother me that much. I love the Kikuchi score but the Faulconer score is ingrained in my head and some scenes don't feel right to me without it

I hate the part of the fandom that hates certain fans and always touts how much they read the manga or watched the Japanese version. "Ugh, dubbies!!!" Hate those fans.

I hate that there is so much hate for hatred of aspects of this hated fanbase because that much hatred of hatred makes me hate the fact that I'm a part of such a wellspring of hate.

lol I think what I mean is that I wish that everyone would just get along and accept that there are so many different kinds of fans, so judging certain fans is just childish. I don't hate any of the fandom. I think there's a certain frustration that comes along when not everyone agrees with what you believe or even like the same version you do, but they all are respectable.

Oh, I agree. I'm just not sure why this topic is even a thing. "I hate most of the people who like the thing I like" seems like a pretty clear-cut example of "Disparaging other/the community(ies)."

I actually feel a bit uncomfortable about "hate" directed towards people that did nothing wrong to hurt anybody. You may not like parts of fandom that are in your opinion too loud or aggressive in their opinions but "hate"?

I think there is a select few left that take the word "hate" for what it really is. We are in a world where people "hate" everything. "I hate the color green," "I hate Wednesdays," "I hate my doctor," "I hate my friends." The meaning of the word has been dumbed down to basically be used towards anything that one finds remotely dislike-able.

I'll admit, I'm guilty of this. but hey, I work with what I'm given; if that's the context that people use "hate" in now, I'll be right next to them.

Unfortunately, in the beginning, the phrase, "Hate is a strong word" meant something and kind of put things into perspective that the word "hate" is reserved for a very extreme emotion. But now, that phrase is said as a joke. "I hate this pen." "Hate is a strong word." "Haha!"

Oh well, what can you do?

I think at least part of the annoyance comes from the fact that DBZ is still a kids' show at the end of the day, and so you're going to have these twelve-year-olds on the internet who are still getting off on the anonymity. Then again, some adults are just as bad.

DarkPrince_92 wrote:The problem I'd say is that, those certain fans are simply uninformed. They've seen DBZ once or twice, and feel like they have it all together. They haven't gotten as in depth in the series as we have, so they missed out on certain things. And when they say things that are flat out wrong, and other uninformed fans eat that crap up, which creates more of them. That's how rumors start. That's how false info spreads. That's how arguments among them happen. And that's why we can't stand them lol.

Most of them are on Youtube, I try my best to avoid the comment section, or post my own. It's way less headache.
I really started to get annoyed with the new community change that worsened after the screw-attack debacle. With super in progress, it seemed to have completely changed or inflated the worst part of the community I notice. The side with everyone who's participating, obsessed with looking for feats to the point where they're just quote-mining abstract dialogue pieces or filling in the source blanks with their own facts when they hear big tubers make these claims. Now we have people saying Goku & Beerus can create stars confirmed! (even though the attack is just a CGI effect) but no. Ki is actually:... plasma/fire/magic/air-bending....etc because some youtube theorist's hyperbolic coincidental comparisons, even though I recall Whis saying they can't create stars. Its just those reactionary false-confirmations that get annoying when people apply them into in-universe discussions.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.
