They just love that ugly-ass orange
I'm starting to miss the Ultimate Uncut blue scheme they had...
And the discs are boring, the set is lol...
They put no effort into making this set look cool... it's Dragonball Z for fucks sake, not Garfield and Friends...
Ok, I'll stop before I get ahead of myself... *coughcrosseyedvegetacough*

Well, I personally got over the whole cover art.
(And what do you have against the Garfield sets?!)
Anyways, being the fickle consumer I am, I think I might just pre-order this set after all. It's going to be the best thing America will be getting in quite some time, and as mentioned in the past podcast episode, as long as you're well informed on what you're getting, that's good. It's not like I think that the show was actually filmed in widescreen and cropped to be fullscreen

.
And even if there will be a HD release, I doubt I'll get it, since I'll probably never get a HD player. That, and I'm tired of waiting for something better.

I think I'll buy it after the reviews.
Now only if I can get rid of my Saiyan Showdown dvd... I can't even sell it off ebay for 5 bucks.

I may buy this. Although I'm broke for the moment, and by the time I do get money, there will be at least maybe 3 or 4 box sets already released.
But damn..that's some real horrible box art. What's so wrong with doing some Ultimate Uncut art? That stuff actually looked cool..

Nothing, I *heart* Garfield, but the sets in general I can't even remember what they look like... but that damn "OMG ITZ SO ORNJ ITZ the AWZUM"-orange on the new Dbz sets just made me instantly think of Garfield.

Never getting a form of HD Player is like saying you still have a VCR and refuse to get a DVD player

Orange can be quite cool when you know how to use it. Unlike some people at FUNi....

The sadest part though... is that half of the people who have Photoshop, or some other photo program, can make a cover at least 5 times as better.
Or... the sadest part is they actually think the cover kicks ass

Ultimate Uncut Super Turbo Dragonball Z The New Challengers Hyper Edition? This is starting to sound like the Street Fighter II (Super Mega Awesome Turbo Alpha 3x vs. Marvel
and Burger King in 4-D with HD brain implants) games.
As for orange, I don't favor it by any means but I like it a Helluva lot more than the "OMG DBZ IZ the KEWL CUZ WE USEZ SYNTH ROXORZ MYUUSIKZ!!!11" stuff they're been pushing on us forever.

Not necessarily. The jump between VHS and DVD is way bigger than between DVD and HD-DVDs. Both DVD and HD-DVD are still capable of preserving the video and audio for long periods of time without it worsening (unless you scratch the disc, or something). Then again, this is from someone who wouldn't have even have a DVD player if his dad's karaoke player didn't double as a DVD player

It's too early to tell if either of the two new formats will really take off. The cost of changing over from tapes to discs was offset by the many improvements offered. Changing from one type of disc to another offers far fewer improvements. I still think this whole thing will be another betamax

Are you the same "Kendamu" from the FUNimation forum?
Cause something similar was said over there... and I think I'll quote my reply on the matter.
me from the darkside/FUNi's forum wrote:Well... the Black on Red/Blue themes they have had were ok, and had even artistic style to them.
These new sets, as well as this layout, were created by someone who couldnt think of anything artistic, so he threw a crosseyed Vegeta on to a Garfield orange... making the sets look very, VERY ridiculous looking... if DBZ wasn't made fun of enough as it is, the sets, just by the looks alone, are just another reason for it to be made fun of.
The fact that I could make a better cover, and layout for their boxset and website is sad.
It's not about the fact that it was "We're cool because we use synth music and have shiny DVD covers
(even though the Dragonboxes did too *gasp*", but the fact that the UU DVD covers actually were simplistic, but were extravagant at the same time. The new set is just simplistic and ugly... My 12 year old brother could make the same damn thing in Microsoft Paint...

Yeah, I'm the same guy.
The "we're so hardcore" theme that I've been seeing from FUNimation for so long is associated in my head with Fulconer's music. That's why I hate the super dark color schemes for DBZ covers. The way I interpret it just re-enforces the idea that the Japanese music isn't "good enough" and things need to be made more "HARDCORE LAWL" for us "dumb" Americans. Of course, my being so harsh on the idea comes from the fact that the music is probably my favorite aspect of the anime version. It's the main reason I don't just stick to the manga.
That's why I like FUNi's Dragonball DVD covers. In my mind, they seem more like something that fits the overall atmosphere of Dragonball.
That's why I prefer the orange over the black/red/blue stuff even though it's like trying to choose the lesser evil either way.

Talking about this crappy box art is getting my rant blood boiling again. I thought that the screencap covers from FUNi's previous DVD covers were acceptible, and amazingly, I really liked the UUE covers. They were actually putting some effort into the covers. Some of the redrawings of the screencaps on the UUE covers were even better than the actual screencap (partially because that specific episode had a bad animation day, but still).
The utter crappiness of this box art makes me wonder if it's just one of those pictures that just give you a basic idea of what the art will look like, and the actual version will look somewhat nicer.

Highly unlikely...
Maybe they'll put more effort into their HD release in 5 years though
Damn... FUNi screws up something, we get to wait until the next time they release the friggin series to see if they get it right, and without getting something else wrong...

The box art is terrible. I'd make a huge rant about it, but ugh I'm tired. Hell, I would have been happy with a screenshot like they did for their previous DVD releases. Bleh..

I was being sarcastic. I'm sure Corey's girlfriend is just as not-giviing-a-damn about no subs as himself. But with movie 3, good luck trying to figure out just who Tullece is. A brother, a clone, struck from some mold of Bardock? Who knows! XD

LOL! I never cared. I always saw it in the whole "artistic representation of Goku fighting what he could've ended up being" light.
