Something strange inside me made me pre-order the Kindle edition, and subsequently forget all about it, so I woke up the other day to find a lovely surprise in that it had automatically downloaded - although I have yet been afforded an uninterrupted coffee break in which to read the damned thing from cover to cover, oh, the joys of writing a thesis...

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (incl. "DB Minu
I haven't been able to find this at my local book stores, so I caved and bought the digital version on Viz's website while I continue looking for a hard copy. If anyone's interested, I compared it with my original digital Shonen Jump releases, and the "print" quality seems a little better for the SJ versions of the chapters. So if anyone has the original Shonen Jump issues on their Viz account, you might not even feel the need to buy the digital collected edition. Of course, Viz has a preview of the collected edition on their site, so you can judge for yourself.
Can anyone who has the "Super Elite" Japanese version tell me the differences between that and the regular tankōbon release? Aside from the fact that it's printed at A5 size with better quality? For example, I know that the "Super Elite" edition has a different front cover and a different "table of contents" illustration. Is there anything else?

The Super Elite version comes with a postcard, keychain, and button. Also, perhaps the inside flap cover illustration is different? Not sure about that one. I posted some photos when I got it back here: http://www.kanzenshuu.com/forum/viewtop ... 29#p782629 Pretty sure the inside contents are the same.

To follow up on Herms's question earlier, I have finished the entire book, and, yes, it does misspell "Capitol" as "Capital" in every single instance. Oh, well.
Anyway, really enjoyed reading it all the way through for the first time (again, except for Minus, which still sucks). This was a very enjoyable series. And I have to say I really enjoyed Toriyama's art. It's so odd for me to see so much screentone in a Toriyama work, but I kinda like it.

I looked it up, and it seems that it really is "capital" for a city, while "capitol" is supposed to be used only for a legislative building. So Viz is right. Got my English volume! I didn't even think about this, but Viz's Shonen Jump doesn't have time to replace the Japanese sound effects, but they do reletter them for the print volumes. Interesting to flip through and compare. I like the Japanese sound effects, but the English lettering is perfectly fine. If I want to look at the original lettering, that's what my Japanese volume is for

Well, damn. Everything I knew was a lie. Some fun Easter Eggs that come to mind is Dr. Kurigashira from Dr. Slump on TV, and what miiiiight be a young Tao Pai Pai with a skateboard. And I love the Gundam model in Omori's garage at the endChuquita wrote:Oh! There was one more kinda Easter egg I saw. On the chapter seven cover, there's a cat in the upper left hand corner that looks like the breed Beerus is based on.

I really don't think that's a young Tao Pai Pai. He's over 200 years old when we see him in the series, and Jaco is only set 11 years before his introduction.

That's in the first printing of both Japanese editions, as far as I can recall. Was it fixed in later printings (are there yet?)SaiyaJedi wrote:That's in the first printing of both Japanese editions, as far as I can recall. Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (incl. "DB Minu
What are all the stories involving the Galactic Patrol? Also, what order are they in?
1) Jiya (it's how they discover Earth, so it would definitely be first)
2) Jaco (set 10 years before DB and therefore 5 years before Doctor Slump)
3) Doctor Slump volume 11
4) Sachie-chan Guu (after one of the budokai with a junior division in it, so earliest would be in the 10-year gap between Buu and Uub)
Are there any others? Is Cashman supposed to be a Galactic Patrolman or just a regular (for his planet) police officer?

Wait, there's something with the Galactic Patrol in Dr. Slump? That's the first I've heard of that, huh.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (incl. "DB Minu
It's complicated. Dr. Slump features a member of the "Space Police" (宇宙警察 / uchū keisatsu) named named Heiji. The whole story is a riff on Zenigata Heiji, only in a sci-fi setting. While the organization isn't the same terminology as the Galactic Patrol in Jaco and the like, it is the name they use in Dragon Ball guidebooks.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Wait, there's something with the Galactic Patrol in Dr. Slump? Huh, that's neat. I really need to get the rest of the Dr. Slump volumes eventually, because I had no idea that that was there.
Just out of curiosity, but if it's a Zenigata riff, does he flip coins to disarm people?

Yeah, he does. He's also from the planet "Hananooedo" (Glorious Edo).

Niiiiice!
I'd almost be disappointed if there wasn't some kind of Lupin reference too, but Toriyama knowing about Heiji Zenigata doesn't automatically mean he'd be knowledgeable about Lupin the 3rd and it's own Zenigata, I suppose.

Re: "Jaco the Galactic Patrolman" discussion (incl. "DB Minu
So does that mean they're not the same? The impression I was under was that the daizenshuu was referencing the Doctor Slump appearance and that Jiya, Sachie-chan and Jaco were all expanding on the daizenshuu.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:It's complicated. What doesn't help is that all three versions have different uniforms and all three versions all have the "OMG, the person is so small!!" Seriously, Jaco even explains he's the third tallest during his era and the eras preceding and following his only show us smaller ones.
