No, those are the Japanese DBoxes and the North American release of them.

It would be a much bigger difference if it was with the orange bricks.

Are those comparison shots of the DBox quality vs. the orange bricks'?
No, it's the Japanese DragonBox set compared to the FUNimation DragonBox set.

Edit: Beat me to it.

I see...
Well, I wasn't planning on getting the DBoxes since I own all nine orange bricks, but I've seen enough to make me think otherwise. :D

Not to be an ass, but did you take into consideration that the orange bricks are cropped before you asked that question? Just curious...

Wow, those stack up pretty well. There's a TINY difference in color, but you wouldn't even notice unless you were looking for it. Negligible at best.

Yeah, way better comparison pictures.

And I noticed something back when MajinVejitaXV mentioned to me there is no dot crawl in the Dragonbox sources because of page 5 comparison shots. I took a screenshot of my desktop, and then pasted it in paint, then when I saved it as JPG, thats where the dot crawl came from. It seems as if you save something as a JPG the quality gets really screwed up along the edges and stuff.

So yeah, from the looks of it, I can't even tell much difference at all. Although, I don't really like split screen comparison pictures. I rather have the full frame side by side. But whatever.

Fuck, did they really get that much worse over this short period of time? I mean they look good, but still.... the black lines are so much sharper on the original Dragonboxes. :?

Eh, Funi box is a little brighter, but I actually like things bright. Not Season 2 bright, mind you, but I think slightly birghter=better.

That's called compression, and the imperfections you see in the images are "Compression Artifacts."

The FUNi Dbox stills still look noticeably more compressed. I can understand how that may look neigh indistinguishable in motion though.

You think brighter.... I'm gonna have to go with blurrier. The original looks much sharper all around to me.

So yea, even if you do notice a slight difference between the two it's much better then comparison shots from other sets. :?
On the first picture, I barely notice a difference. On the other two, I don't notice a difference.

They're so close that I might as well say they're the same damn thing.

EDIT: Really looking closely, I can see a difference. However, I have to look pretty closely. I'm not a person who looks that closely normally. I thoroughly enjoyed my R2 singles and I'm thoroughly enjoying the US DBox. The differences I'm seeing can be accounted for by adjusting my TV settings.

Also, in the first shot, the side that says "Japanese" has a girl with black hair. The side that says "American" has a girl with blonde hair.

I had a bunch of help from godofchaos to get my media player setup, and took screens for about 2-3 hours just for comparisons sake. Sorry if you and others felt they were pointless, but it was to compare how far we've come as far as releases go. I know that wasn't the point for comparisons at the time, and even though I myself was waiting for Japanese to American Dragon Box comparisons, I still wanted to contribute some how.

Next time I'll disregard anything I can do to contribute, and simply not, because someone will have a problem with it.

It's not like we've been looking at those colors since it's release for the past 13~ years or anything.

He meant that these releases look a lot closer to the original dragonbox than the orange bricks did, he wasn't insulting you.

I think what Tanooki meant is that the US Dragon Box looks way better in comparison to the Japanese Dragon Box than any other Funi release.

Well if so then I got mad at him for nothing.

I think I did see another comment about the same thing though, so my reasoning still stands. ;)

I didn't see anyone saying that. And if so, then the person in question is just a dick and it's best to just ignore him when everyone else appreciates them.

That's actually exactly what I meant. For years we've been putting the FUNimation screen shots next to Japanese screen shots and usually it's like night and day.

Yeah, Nathantheguitarist, I think you are talking about my comments.
SSVegetto wrote:I saw some Funibox to orange box sets comparisons, then pioneer, and Ultimate uncut. But I havent seen enough Funibox to Dragonbox comparisons yet. I think we need more screenshots of these please. I dont know why people are putting up pioneer and orange box stuff because we get the point, at least Funiboxes blows those releases out of the water.
Yeah, I apologize , I didn't have a problem with it actually. And I looked at it. I just wanted more r2j screen comparisons because I already knew that the Funiboxes would be way better. It was still interesting to look at to see how far the quality has improved though. Thanks for taking the time to put those up there.
