Goku himself doesn't actually say Vegeta surpassed him. During the scene itself Kame-sennin says Vegeta seems to have surpassed Goku. Then at the end of the movie, Goku tells Vegeta that he became an "incredible Super Saiyan" back when Beers slapped Bulma, and that the next time they're up against some nasty opponent they should just have their enemy hit Bulma. This is when Piccolo says Goku must have been watching back during that fight, and everyone gets mad at him for not helping out then.

I can support Vegeta surpassing Goku on a regular comparison. But going over SSJ3 is ridiculous. I take this as Vegeta's SSJ2 was above Goku's. So he essentially surpassed Goku in a way. That way we can have Vegeta surpass Goku in a way with it making sense for the most part.

Sigh, it's typical a Super Anime Emotions Over Everything Power-Up Scene - it's not supposed to make sense.

What's so hard to believe about Vegeta getting more than 4x stronger?

I don't think it's that ridiculous because it's based on a phenomena that is arguably just as ridiculous despite being no less true. In times of great stress and rage people of average size have demonstrated strength that exceeds current world records, ya know those things that are set by gigantic human specimens who train for years upon years to accomplish those feats. It might be unusual for Dragon Ball to pull a stunt like that but it's also unusual in real life, too.

Because he never was able to do that before and it is completely random. Unless Vegeta somehow became a half saiyan with Gohan's abilities in those 5 years off screen.

That is exactly what I initially thought. But apparently it might be serious.

I'm going with this. Vegeta's emotions fueled him, and in typical anime-fashion he reached incredible power in that moment. If his power didn't even surpass SS(J)3, then there's no way he could have fared as well as what's been implied (?) so far. Even if for just that moment.

Great! Now everything makes sense. Vegeta didn't necessarily become stronger because he got angry. He seems to have surpassed SS3 Goku through training with his Super Saiyan 2 (he was a Super Saiyan 2 according to Dragon Ball Heroes), so this leads me to believe that Vegeta focused in surpassing Goku in Super Saiyan 2, rather than focusing himself to reach Super Saiyan 3, a flawed form. And he succeed (only for Goku reaching Super Saiyan God). The line about Bulma getting hit sounds like a joke, so Vegeta didn't get stronger because he got angry IMO, he got stronger because he trained. Everything makes sense now! :D

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. I wonder what would have happened if Beers hit Chi-Chi instead of Bulma.

I guess Gohan would have been enraged.

What would have happened though? Good question.

...I guess that's why they went with Bulma.

I can get behind Vegeta's powers being emotion-locked. Seems random but I can see how it would work.

From the images available on fullpowerdbz.com it seems the Super Saiyan God poster from the Movie guide has the regular movie poster on it's back.

Fixed. Watanabe is the Vegeta fan-boy, and the main scriptwriter.

I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Well, the whole slapping incident starts because Bulma slaps Birusu first, and then he responds with a slap of his own. Only his is much harder.

So I don't want to know the spoiler on how it was done if it was done, but can anyone tell me if King Kai's planet being back is explained in any way in the movie?

I believe Kei covered this a ways back in the thread, but no, it's not explicitly explained in the movie. Birusu does complain that Kaiō’s planet is so small when they first show up there, but Uisu reminds him that he's the reason it's so small. That's really all that's discussed about it though.

I can't wait to see Vegetas face when he see's that. Surely I'm not the only one who cares about him defending his woman more than his power up, right?
