Oh god...how the hell does anyone go around thinking that? If they just type the words in a different font it'll somehow magically translate itself? Though I guess some people just don't take "you're wrong" lying down. :PCastor Troy wrote:Here's a funny dbz web related story I just remembered..
One time this person submitted his site to be added to my links page and the logo had that "english with an MS word japanese font" on it. I told the person that the japanese was wrong and even gave him a proper katakana chart to correct him. He went all apeshit telling me it was wrong and I should get a new japanese dictionary and that he was right because MS word said so.
I never heard from the kid again.

In a ditch somewhere
What the fuck? Funimation seems to have mixed up the ultimate uncut editions with the season box sets. How could anyone seriously make that mistake?nathantheguitarist wrote:http://www.dragonballz.com/index.cfm?page=history

Maybe they're mentioning it as the CN broadcasts?Taku128 wrote:What the fuck? Funimation seems to have mixed up the ultimate uncut editions with the season box sets. How could anyone seriously make that mistake?nathantheguitarist wrote:http://www.dragonballz.com/index.cfm?page=history

How in the world did these people get away with this useless nonsense?Goku
Goku is the hero of Dragon Ball Z, the most powerful warrior on Earth. When the Saiyans arrive, Goku learns the mysterious secret of his own past: he is a Saiyan formerly named Kakarot. Goku was sent to Earth as a baby to destroy the planet, but a head injury as a child scrambled Goku's programming. Instead of growing up to become a destructive super-warrior, he became innocent and pure of heart, fighting for good.
Goku is peaceful, good natured, honest, loving to his family and friends, loyal, trustworthy, and brave. If he has a weakness, it is his trusting nature. He always finds the good in people when others don't see it, though Goku's enemies sometimes take advantage of his naive trust.

KAMEHAMEHA

I thought everyone here knew and accepted the fact that DBZ is a kids show. A very good one that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but 9 is pretty close to its original target audience.

See, the problem isn't the original audience the show was made for. Everyone has accepted that.m121akuma wrote:Word.

The problem is that this statement FUNimation made shows that they have absolutley no faith in the show. They're scared that it won't be successful as it is, so they create a faux widescreen gimmick to try and "revive" the franchise and make it look newer than it really is.
They just can't accept the fact that the show is old.
Another thing about this is that they are basically saying,"Fuck you." to the established fanbase in favor of an elusive demographic...which is about eight years too late to try and do so. You don't see them doing that with their other properties.

Picked up my copy this morning at 3:00. I watched the first six episodes. Now I know why eevryone goes on and on about Cha-la-head-cha-la. It's a catchy tune.
The only thing i really noticed was that the jpn audio has higher background noice such as wind and leaves and stuff. I wish that the dub w/ original audio had the same effect. It adds to it greatly.
But I wonder if they're gonna release the CN opening sequneces as some sort of special features or something.

Can you believe I got this for 5$ O.O. I walked into Gamestop, and was browsing the DVDs, and just the day before I was gonna buy it, but I didnt have the 40$ for it. Suddenly the Giant "DRAGONBALL Z" logo caught my eye, so I wanted to look at its awesome case again. and to my surprise, there wasa 5$ price tag on it. after a triple take, the lady said "Yeah! 5$" so before she changed her mind, I baught it. Their loss

I think $5 is what its well worth in terms of picture quality & image cropping at least.

Meh, if I can get each set for $30 or less, it's worth it to me.Sebastian (SB) wrote:I think $5 is what its well worth.
Then again, I'm not a hardcore purist either. I prefer the Japanese version of the show, but I'm not willing to spend $40 a 6-episode DVD for "OMG the UBER PICTURE QUALITEEZ" and no translations. Hell, I was even fine with FUNi's grainy, oversaturated, pixelated 4:3 masters for the original releases.
I'm still going to get every set though... Even VegettoEX himself said "anything can be bought for the right price." $40 or less for a whole slew of DBZ episodes is more than the right price for me.
But I still wish some kind of 4:3 release was put out alongside the widescreen sets, so that way each camp will at least be satisfied.
Still, whoever found that set for $5: a damn good find, my friend.

Gamestop has this problem of dumping all anime together for the same price and if they don't have a listing for a particular title (they scan the UPC)it gets a genaric price tag. I trades in the Street Fighter V series set a few years ago and it wasn't coming up and they were only gonna give me a dollar for each disc.fps_anth wrote:LMAO! Someone probably bought the DBZ set and traded it in.
If they got it from a major retailer (like Wal-mart, Target or K-mart) they should have returned as defective, gotten a brand spanking new one that wasn't open and returned it to a different location as a gift and used the store credit to buy whatever. Ye kno, it helps to have worked for every major retailer there ever were. You learn all the tricks.

Yeah, it was used actually. But in the finest condition I'd ever seen. It's such a nice set that it would be hard to destroy it anyway XD. I hope someone does it for set 2 lol. But yeah, a good find on my part I guess.

Personally, I feel the same way in just about every respect you pointed out. Hearing Mike saying "you shouldn't even spend money on this" on the latest podcast kinda threw me for a loop, I mean we're still getting this unbelievable amount of episodes uncut, with Steve Simmons' subs, a new dub track with the Japanese music, and video quality (which, I agree, was highly exaggerated on FUNi's part and isn't close to detail par to the Dragonboxes) looks better than any previous R1 DVD of the series IMO. Getting the sets for $30-$34 more than makes these sets worth the purchase, I mean I've seen all 39 episodes (a lot more than once) and the wide-screen in no way ruins the viewing experience for me, nor does some blurring which I'm honestly not even noticing (maybe because I'm not comparing these to the Dragonboxes or expecting them to look as good).theoriginalbilis wrote:Meh, if I can get each set for $30 or less, it's worth it to me.

Yes, FUNi's insane amount of lies in their advertising will always piss me off, but for what these sets are offering content-wise, not to the degree for me to turn down getting the entire DBZ series in an affordable and fully translated form. Hell, we all have our patience thresholds, and mine isn't waiting for possible full-screen releases that we may never even get or that might look worse than the 16:9 treatment. I mean, does the concept that FUNi might just pan-and-scan their own 16:9 masters rather than release an unaltered 4:3 format (if there're enough complaints) worry anyone besides me? We all know they're stupid enough to do that since their current masters are already set in stone, or at least possibly considering Madman are going for them.
