Yellow subs are often used and IMO it's a lot better than white subs which sometimes are barely visible due to blending with the background, but for DVD sets they're fine just not for Blu-rays. It's really a shame that FUNimation doesn't offer variety of subtitle colours 'cause watching the DBZ Levels with white coloured subs is displeasing.sangofe wrote:Awesome. FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray
Re: Dr. Slump: The Movies (1-5) by Discotek
Sorry for the confusion: Kingdom Heartless asked specifically about Cagliostro. Which is coming out on Blu-Ray, Dr. Slump is just DVD. Also I don't do the subtitling, but personally I prefer yellow subs.sangofe wrote:Awesome. Dr Slump in Bluray? Uh-uh, why the yellow subs, though?
Ah, thanks Kei17. Though all the anime stuff I do is side work outside my normal job. I couldn't live off of what it pays; I mostly do it because I love anime and honestly lose a lot of sleep over it. I work in video games for a living, which IS fun, though isn't as fun as people think. You certainly don't play games all day. It's just as stressful as any other job, having to be creative on demand. Wouldn't trade it away though!kei17 wrote:These screencaps look gorgeous. The colors seem to have been properly corrected like the HD remaster of Hokuto no Ken. I hope Toei will do the same with the DB series someday, but they are actually pretty lazy these days that they are releasing old TV series on Blu-ray by upconverting old SD footage for DVD releases without any color correction.
It must be really fun to make a living from something you love, Ashura. I wish I could, too.
Mike, I totally appreciate you allowing this one to slip through. There's unfortunately not many outlets to talk about this show in general...VegettoEX wrote:I think Lemmy's point is that this movie set specifically has nothing to do with Dragon Ball...

I hope this isn't a silly question but how limited is this DVD release? Because I don't have the money at the moment and I'm afraid these will go out of stock on me lol

I know Tohru Furuya voiced Suppaman at one point, does he voice the character in these films?

Didn't Funimation call Suppaman "Sour Man" in the Dragon Ball dub?

Ashura, I'm totally in love with the packaging for this set. You did a fantastic job! Thank you so much for all of your hard work and thanks for the sneak peak!
... And I know it's off-topic, but I LOVE the Cagliostro cover! I know it's been getting mixed reception on other forums, but don't get discouraged. It rocks.
I think this set is perfectly relevant to Dragon Ball, by the way (even if it didn't have Kanzenshuu members working on it). The Dr. Slump characters appear in the series proper. They play a big role in a major story arc. This set, which covers the 1980s feature film careers of the Dr. Slump characters (a career that includes DB movie 03, even if it's not included on this set), gives you a chance to learn who these characters are. It's a learning experience for Dragon Ball fans. I'm thankful that the admins are "bending the rules" to allow this topic, but I don't even think they need to because the topic seems like fair game anyway.
For the 1990s "revival" films, everyone except for Kenji Utsumi (Senbei) and Mami Koyama (Arale) were recast. Tōru Furuya voiced Suppaman in these 1990s films, and reprised the role for the second TV series. If this set sells well and Discotek licenses the 1990s films, you'll be getting 100% Furuya as Suppaman.

Look, I've never read any of Dr. Slump but I'm definitely going to buy this set to show support for future releases and the forum. I think it's great that Kanzenshuu gets its name out there in an official way, and good job all involved.
Hopefully by watching these I'll get in the mood to give the series a try next.

I'm actually kind of glad that you posted Mike, because now I know the thread's survival hasn't been a fluke, so I don't have to worry about it suddenly closing all of a sudden. ^_^;
Anyway, I have another question Ashura (or Herms if he sees it first, since having worked on the subtitles would answer this question too). I've started to re-read what little of the Dr. Slump manga I have so far (volumes 1-3) in preparation for this DVD set, and already I've hit one of the most glaring edits in it - 'Super Punch'. We aren't going to see that in this movie set, or any similar work around underage drinking, are we? Granted, I don't know if that comes up in the movies at all.
'Course, even if we do get that edit in there, I'm still keeping my set. It'd take far more than that to ward me off.

Wow, those shots look really good. Better than I would have hoped for.
As for Cagliostro, it will always have a special place in my heart... it may have been the first full length anime film I ever saw, back in the '90s. Been waiting for a good price on the UK release, but this one might be a good bet!

Why doesn't this forum have an off-topic section again? Seems like it would come in handy for topics like these.
Anyway, I'll make sure to pick this up. I'm always happy to give my support to high-quality releases. I have to give you guys at Discotec credit for putting so much heart into this.

As far as I know, the only thing that we had to change specifically were to use the licensor's approved English movie titles; they're really similar to the originals but not exactly literal. I'm sure if there were any change-changes, Herms would've asked me about them while he was editing.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Anyway, I have another question Ashura (or Herms if he sees it first, since having worked on the subtitles would answer this question too). Amazon has decreased from $29.95 to $26.96 although it still costs $7.97 more than RightStuf.
Oh I just noticed Amazon's technical info is wrong yet again, they state "Disc: 1" and it's two actually plus the audio is Japanese with English subs, so not really English (I'd hope no one would give this a 1/5 stars for the lack of English dub which would be Amazon's stupid fault).

Re: Dr. Slump: The Movies (1-5) by Discotek
There's definitely no edits like that, unless somebody else added them in. But I don't think anything like that comes up in the movies anyway. It'd been a while, but offhand I don't think there's any underage drinking in the films.Gyt Kaliba wrote:Anyway, I have another question Ashura (or Herms if he sees it first, since having worked on the subtitles would answer this question too). Besides the title business that Ashura mentioned, the only real changes I can think of are just stuff like puns and word play where you have to do some adapting to have it work in English. Even then, I don't think there was actually too much of that sort of thing, especially by Dr. Slump standards. The only example I can think of right now is the lake name in the first movie (Atchi-Ike, a pun on ike/lake and "go over there!/get lost!"), and the person who did the initial subtitles had already come up with a good solution to that (Go-Jump-In-A Lake). There were probably more bits that were just flat-out non-sequiturs, so the English subtitles are likewise pretty weird in those parts. I still worry that there are lots of lines I could have phrased way better, but hopefully it all basically makes sense, even the nonsensical parts. Or something.

And thanks for the answer Ashura and Herms, glad to know that this won't be an issue even if the movies do have it come up. Also glad to know that the puns are being pretty well preserved, at least as well as one can for something like Slump. Man, I don't think it's possible for me to get any more hyped for this thing to be in my hands.

Pre-ordered this set!!
Not only is the price just fantastic for five movies, but it'll be great to support the release and the kind people who worked on this set. So... thanks, Herms and Ashura!
The video quality looks excellent from the screenshots. Pretty much as colorful and as clear as 80's budget anime can look.

I never got this argument. Almost all subbed movies/TV shows here in Norway use white subtitles, and I've never heard anyone complain about them being hard to read.dbboxkaifan wrote: Yellow subs are often used and IMO it's a lot better than white subs which sometimes are barely visible due to blending with the background,
