Well, not literally, but in my head, emoticon-type crying.

I hope not.

Absolutely nothing has happened to alter my views on Chatwin. It would make me sad to see him replace Toriyama's Goku in the toy department.

Goku, up until around the Namek stuff, was never more toned or defined than the average person.

They look like muscles to me. What are those lines on his arms? Really looks like clearly defined muscles, in my honest opinion. As him never being more toned then the average person before Namek, have you seen Goku's neck and his chest? Body builders look like that, not average people.

Anway, even if you continue insisting that Goku shouldn't be buff, he has still never had a "puny" bodytype like Chatwin has. Sure he may be able to pour on a few pounds and work out a bit for this movie, but he'll still be a twig, and he'll still be the shining example of a 'troubled teen' as that's all I've ever seen him be casted for.

Anyway, back to the Live Action Movie merchandise, I so hope they really do make a video game and American comic books. The hillarity alone will make me buy five copies.

Well hey, if Tobey Maguire could buff up like he did to play Spider-Man, then so can Chatwin for Goku.

Spiderman's never been a musclehead type of character though. Goku is, just look at his neck and his chest, even back when he fought Ma Junior, he is so not "average".

I always assumed that both Goku and Vegeta were supposed to have Bruce Lee esc physiques. Low Body fat with well defined muscles. It is difficult to draw characters like this without them looking large like a bodybuilder.

Agreed, but aside from instances like Trunks' musclefest against Cell, the DB fighters have never been portrayed as really... "bulky" muscular. They're martial artists, not pro wrestlers. It's more of a lean, fit kind of physique. Yeah, the SSj stages do bulk them up, but not to a really scary extent. At least, not too much to just chalk it up to manga stylizations.

He'll need a good 6 months for that. Seeing as they've already begun filming, I'm a bit worried about the appearance of his physique. It's Dragonball. There HAS to be atleast one bodyshot.

By the way, I still can't believe this movie is being made. It all seems like a rumor to me XD.

First off, sometimes characters lose a few pounds in translation to live action.

Suffice to say, Brandon Routh wasn't quite that ripped for his appearance as Superman.

Second, a good actor will do what it takes to look good for a role. Why, look at at Batman! (I know, DC much?) Christian Bale put his body through hell to play in the Machinist, and he was barely more than skin and bones.
Then they had him gain about... 100 pounds in 6 months and go through quite a bit of physical training to bulk up for his appearance as Bruce Wayne.

So, don't worry too much about Chatwin's physique. They'll get him to where he needs to be to look... realistic on film...
It'll still be Chatwin, though... gr...

Yep, Goku's obviously a super buff body builder that can't be portrayed by a normal person.

To get the level of definition that Goku has you just need to be a normal fit person. It likely wouldn't take more than a few months of training for Chatwin to match Goku's build exactly.

Just because you've only ever seen him typecast in one type of role doesn't mean that he'll always be cast in that role. A majority of actors hate being typecast in the same kind of role over and over again. And considering what we know of the movie we already know he's not been cast for that this time around.

For Chatwin's height, (5'11) he'd atleast have to be atleast 165 lbs plus, to pull off a decent physique for Goku. Personally if I were his trainer, or if i were him. I'd try to hit the 170 mark.

Wow, that was a really selective pair of images you just posted. The fact of the matter is, while Goku is not THAT buff, his clearly defined six-pack (four pack in his case) pectoral muscles, and the musculature visible on his neck is not "average" by any means. It takes weight lifting and toning to have a chest like that.

I digress, though. This was a stupid thing on my part to start an argument over. At the end of the day, you have no problem with Chatwin being cast, and I do. It's our opinions, and they differ. All I'm saying is, you liking it does not make it a "good" casting, even if it seems that way from your perspective. In other words, you have no right, either, to tell someone they are wrong for saying its bad casting.

This timid kid is not the Goku I know

Just the way he's holding his arms, his form, his overall appearence. And I was told this was a leaked image of an on-set Chatwin "in costume" for his Goku role. If I was being mislead in that regard, I could then thankfully look back at the moment I first saw this pic and laugh heartily. If that ends up being genuine, however, I can only cringe.

Goku was buffed in the fight against Vegeta. Remember Kaiken plus 4 or 5? (Dont remember well right now). Check my Goku Vs Vegeta video in youtube so you can see how buffed Goku was there.

Goku got "buffed" while trainning with King Kai.

Yes, he isn't very buff and that's disappointing. But his face, hair, and orange shirt are pretty Goku-ish. How would Goku feel if he was in school? I mean the original Goku? I bet he wouldn't like it.

You gotta remember he's a teen not a 11 year old in this movie.

I think there are bigger issues to worry about than whether Chatwin's buffness matches Goku's. He may not be buff like Goku, but I don't remember him going to high School either...or a guy named Teto

His face and hair look like Goku's? How? He has rather short hair, Goku, if you remember does not. His facial features are nothing like Goku's either (not that I expected much).

And he's wearing an orange shirt - that should not be something we should even be pointing out. "He's wearing orange, just like in the cartoon!" Good god fuck! Seriously? This movie is going to be a terrible adaptation, and no one, no one, can make a case otherwise.

Yeah, he's not eleven, that's stupid change as well, still not as big a change as I'm unpopular and in highschool, I hope Yamcha doesn't beat up me and Teto again - also I have more than a vague understanding of the differences between boys and girls.
