How come they didn't bring Gohan to fight Kid Buu?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I don't disagree, but that's all way too convenient. And some of what you said about Gotenks was contradictory. One book said he was at the same level as base Gohan, but then you said in the next sentence base Gotenks is several times more powerful than base Gohan or Goku? Wha?

I assume you made a mistake here since Base Gotenks is definitely stronger than base Gohan (Boo arc). It would be impossible for Gotenks to be stronger than Goku if he is equal to Gohan, whom is weaker than Goku for a fact, I'd say a good deal weaker.

Amuro's probably tired of hearing this one, too, but Goku did say that he and Vegeta would be killed if they tried to fight him. Now, you could assume he was lying, but you could just as easily assume that he wasn't, and I'd still consider it an implication. In addition to that, when Buu reverts to his pure form, Goku says: "We did it! This way, we might be able to manage something." I find it hard to believe that he'd say this if all they'd succeeded in doing was making him smaller and more powerful than he was as Evil Buu.

At the end of the day, however, it all depends on how you interpret these lines. I can't say for sure that one interpretation is right and another is wrong. All I have is an opinion, just like everyone else.
You could assume he was lying because he is later seen fighting a Stronger form of Buu and holding his own. Say what you want about him being the "most dangerous" it's HEAVILY implied that he is stronger - from Kaio's fear of him being "unpredictable" is meaningless on it's own when taking it out of context (especially considering the other 2 forms of Buu attempted to destroy the Earth as well) to Goku and Vegetas comments. Nothing stated from this point foward implies any sort of drop in power.

When the Boys first see Gohan, I could be wrong, but don't they mistake his power for Goku's? Also - since when were the boys a good gauge of power, when we factor in how they underestimated Majin Buu multiple times.

The Anime and the Manga both mirror eachother when the you stop trying to prove a theory that is obviously false.
Not to be disrespectful, but from reading your arguments in this thread, I wish you'd stop being so... Well, blind to other peoples' perspectives. Saying absolutely NOTHING implies backing up the other persons' point of view is a pretty narrow view on a very broad and debatable subject, and probably why the discussion elevated to what it was before admins stepped in.

In my opinion, his power was mistaken for Goku's 1) Because they had similar ki anyways and
2) It was the strongest ki they felt, and automatically assumed it'd have to be Goku.

Many other arguments stated multiple times before in this very thread that you've responded to that took their evidence from very credible sources also imply Kid Buu < Super Buu. But I do respect your POV and many other people would agree with you. I personally don't, but can acquiesce the fact that you do.
I've listened to your perspective, I really have, and I've heard you and others like you conjure information off of your opinion to the exclusion of all other information. I wish you and others like you would acknowledge that you could possibly be wrong, and the anime’s path might be one clue on how the story was supposed to play out.

1. His power was probably mistaken for Goku because he was powerful, there is no denying it.
2. A Power on that level would probably belong to someone like Goku - implying that Goku's SSj3 could possibly be more powerful than the boys, and on or above Gohan's level.

It's not that I don't respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it. I think you're wrong and I'm not afraid to admit that.

Yes I did, and yes - I wouldn't be so rigid in my opinion if I thought there was fault to be found. Could I be wrong - yes, it is entirely possible, but the arguments presented to be at this time have done nothing but allowed me to dig myself in deeper on my interpretation of the information. Considering how many comments, and implications would have to be ignored for they story to be correct in the way you and others have presented is not only confusing, it just doesn't make sense.

There's fault to be found in everything. The arguments presented at the time by multiple Japanese speakers, people living in Japan, guidebooks approved, all take less precedence than yourself and faulty fan subs? You really aren't making for a good debater x.x.

The Anime and the Manga both mirror eachother when the you stop trying to prove a theory that is obviously false.
You say that nothing implies any sort of drop in power, except that you go from Goku saying that he and Vegeta would both die fighting one form of Buu, to the next Buu that forms being even stronger than he is, and then Goku later confidently believing he could defeat Pure Buu on his own. That denotes a huge drop in power. It's quite clear that the statement about Buu's strength increasing was in relation to South Kaioushin Buu, not to Pure Buu, because they were scared of Evil Buu, even more shocked that his power jumped when he first transformed, then felt like their odds were good when he transformed again into Pure Buu.

You say that he's lying. Why would he lie? Contrary to what we see in the anime, in the manga, there's no indication that he really likes the idea of fusing with Vegeta and would lie just to do so. He even goes as far as to berate Vegeta a number of times for destroying the Potara (once right in front of Evil Buu), indicating that he felt Evil Buu was a dangerous enough threat that, if he needed to, he'd permanently fuse with Vegeta again. That indicates so much desperation on his part that there's no way he could be lying about it. You keep saying that he's lying about it, but you never give a reason as to why he'd lie about it. He has no reason to lie to Vegeta about their chances in battle, no reason to remove himself from being the lone hero if he were capable of doing so, but when confronted by Evil Buu within his own body he had every reason to feign strength tto try and bluff his way out.

Also, in regards to the other forms of Buu trying to destroy the Earth, at least theirs had reason to it. Evil Buu in both his forms attempted to do so out of boredom, because their desire for a good fight wasn't satisfied, so they were just going to do away with the planet. The reasoning being similar to what would have happened if Cell had won the Cell Games. Pure Buu on the other hand had no rhyme or reason to his actions. The very first thing he did after forming was to throw a ki blast down at the Earth to blow it up. There wasn't any reasoning with him or coaxing him to fight instead. His actions were unpredictable and uncontrollable, and Kibitoshin's dialogue even indicates that.
Chapter: 508 (DBZ 314), P4.2-7
Kaioshin: “In m…my era there were five Kaioshins…until they were defeated by the Majin Boo that the wizard Babidi created…I was the youngest and most powerless one, but I somehow survived, with only heavy injuries…But the other four fell to Boo…First, two were killed…the North Kaioshin and the West Kaioshin….And then the South Kaioshin, the burliest and strongest one, was…somehow absorbed by Boo….. “
Elder Kaioshin: …And he became that huge Boo from before? “
Kaioshin: “…Yes…Next to be absorbed was the fat but kind and gentle Dai-Kaioshin….The Majin Boo that Bibidi created was evil itself, a failed creation that even Bibidi himself couldn’t handle, but by absorbing the Dai-Kaioshin, he somehow become controllable…. “
Elder Kaioshin: “…So he was finally completed…Which is to say…that this current…small Majin Boo…is the initial…mo…most troublesome one…”
Kaioshin: “….Yes…the heart which he gained by going so far as to lower his power through absorption…has returned once again to the way it was…he has no self-control whatsoever…he has become evil itself…

Now I'll go ahead and respond to what I know you're going to point out. In Japanese, there's no clear way of denoting singular or plural, so the absorption part, written as it is, can be read as both ways. However, given that we know there is a significant loss in power from South Kaioushin Buu to Pure Buu, the absorption can only be taken as being singular in reference to Dai Kaioushin.

No, I would do the same. You did the right thing.

Anyway, here it goes:

Gohan = Goten comes from the manga-guidebook, Daizenshuu 2:
By virtue of being Goku's son, Goten posses battle power not the least bit inferior to even Gohan. On top of being able to unleash a startling amount of power in even his normal state, he can easily transform into a Super Saiyan. Furthermore, he merges with Trunks through a technique known as Fusion.
Gotenks being many dozens of times stronger than Goten or Trunks comes from the Son Goku Densetsu guide, and SS4 Gogeta is also stated to be many dozens of times stronger than a Super Saiyan 4 in both GT Perfect Files & the Toei official GT website. So, Fusion is general seems to make the individuals several dozens of times stronger. All these according to Herms.

I can't find the statements where Pure Boo is stated to be weaker than Evil Boo (more specifically, Evil Boo is stated to have gotten weaker after the removal of everyone inside him), which was from SEG, and I also can't find the Gohan > Goku one...

I would think Goten is still inferior to Gohan to a degree or Kid Trunks would be stronger then Gohan by that logic. Goten said he couldn't land a hit on Gohan so that would mean he is definitely weaker then him. Also Gohan was more on the defense and not trying to go all out on his brother. But Goten is in the same ball park as Gohan. I say he is about 5x-10x weaker then Gohan. Other then that this doesn't change the conclusion of your point. We have in the Daiz 7 stating only Dai Kaioshin weakening Pure Boo and we have the manga saying South Kaioshin increased his power when he took on the form. Its also stated their were 2 transformations in the process until Kid Boo appeared (1 is with SK influence which is the Buff form, and then he transforms into Kid Boo as that influence leaves him).

Gohan is a many times more skillful than Goten or Trunks (who are almost even), so I guess that makes Gohan stronger than them. And Gohan was barely blocking Goten's hits (he was even sweating), he wasn't avoiding them easily.

Gohan was also not fighting back. I still have him at least 5x stronger minimum then the Goten and Trunks. That statement urks me as it would mean Trunks is stronger if Gohan and Goten were equal. We know he was holding back by not attacking Goten. He has been underestimating him so its possible he wasn't prepared for him.

Personally, I just weasel things around a bit and pretend it's talking about Goten's dormant power. Which makes more sense given the conditional "by virtue of being Goku's son" thing.

You don't really have any proof to say that Gohan is /five times/ greater than Goten, any more then one could say Goten is equal to Gohan. All we can really gleam is that, in all probability, there's a reasonable gap of power between the two. Hammering it down to something more specific just isn't possible.

Re: How come they didn't bring Gohan to fight Kid Buu?

Even if Goten is equal or weaker than Gohan, he definitely is not 100 times weaker than Goku or Gohan (all in base), so Gotenks is still stronger than Goku.

And could anyone find the SEG statement? I remember it had a picture of Vegeta removing Mr. Boo, and then the text was saying that Boo got weaker from this.
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

Of course It ain't 100% right, its what I feel makes sense. It can be disproven.

I would also like to think he is potentially equal to Gohan pre-power up. Gohan also slacked off and it was probably his first fight in 7 years or so.

He definitely ain't 100x weaker then Gohan. I also have Gotenks stronger then Goku. I have SSJ Gotenks around SSJ3 Goku as I believe what Goku said.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
