Unpopular DB opinions
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Speaking of those 'real rock bands', my next unpopular (maybe?) opinion:
-History of Trunks was one thing that the old FUNi dub actually improved. Loved the soundtrack in that, loved most of the voicework (especially Trunks's inner monologue when he finds Gohan's body), plus it introduced me to Dream Theater. ...Still has its share of stupid added dialogue though.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I actually think the 21st Budokai was the best Budokai. My only real nitpicket is that it'd have been more fitting if Yamcha had faced Ram Fan in the 21st Budokai, since his whole character arc in the first saga is getting over his fear of woman.
The 23rd Budokai is my choice for worst. As enjoyable as the fights are here, the arc feels pointless. Goku finally wins a tournament, but he basically won the 22nd Budokai to the extent even Tenshinhan called him the real winner. He also saves the world from a Piccolo, but he did that in the previous arc.

But yeah, I've always felt that the dub for the 2nd TV special was ahead of its time- in terms of voice acting and casting, at least. Admittedly, I do like the music they used as well. Very nostalgic.
Still, it does get tiresome hearing "Oh my gosh" over and over.

I like Funimation Dub Dbz for casual viewing. Not that popular around here. But I make Amvs to it and honestly got used to it.

I prefer the English dub DBZ over Japanese sub.
Despite what fans say about ChiChi, I like her and she wasn't as bitchy like some make her out to be. She just wanted the best for Gohan.
Vegeta is highly overrated and annoying as hell.
Goku may not have been the best father but he damn sure wasn't a neglectful and terrible father like most fans claim he is. He did a good job for the sake he didn't grow up with a mother and father.
I like Teen Gohan better than Kid Gohan.

As in Teen Gohan, do you mean the one from the Great Saiyaman Saga because preferring him in the Cell Games than previous incarnations isn't that unpopular?ChiChiFan wrote:I like Teen Gohan better than Kid Gohan.
Which was why she let him go to Namek (granted she didn't like it but she accepted it in the long run), and let him parade around as a superhero.ABED wrote:She wanted what SHE thought was best, his happiness be damned. She just wanted the best for Gohan.

She only "let" him because Gohan stood up for himself. Superhero? You make it sound like Gohan was on some mission of self glorification or he was just playing around. He went because he wanted to help his friends.Which was why she let him go to Namek (granted she didn't like it but she accepted it in the long run), and let him parade around as a superhero.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Also, I did acknowledge that she didn't agree at first (until he speaks his stance) and that was because of the year of stress from not knowing he was going through the entire time and not wanting to put up with two more months of it (at least that's I got from the anime version; correct me if you can but if not then don't speak).

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
That's debatable. If that's how you see the scene, fine, but even if she hadn't been through hell that year, she would have been against it. As for the Great Saiyaman thing, we weren't talking about that time in Gohan's life. If we were, by then, Goku's death got to her.that was because of the year of stress from not knowing he was going through the entire time and not wanting to put up with two more months of it
Random, I'm not arguing that she didn't have a right to worry about her son, but it's not like she never showed irrational desires to make Gohan do whatever she wanted or thought he should. Even if Piccolo wasn't part of the equation, she still wouldn't want him to go.

I wouldn't let my 5 year old son go to outerspace either; especially if he was kidnapped away from me and I hadn't seen him in a year.

Would you make him study all the time? Would you try to determine his career for him? Would you show disregard for the child's father after a hellacious battle?Kid Buu wrote:I wouldn't let my 5 year old son go to outerspace either; especially if he was kidnapped away from me and I hadn't seen him in a year.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
To be fair. Gohan did become a scholar and seemed to enjoy that much more than fighting. And when the time was needed Chi Chi did let Gohan fight. I'm sure Chi Chi is more worried about her SON that is only 5 years old getting his ass kicked and she haven't seen him in a year(And was taken by some Demon that's the son of a monster that killed many fighters) than her husband who used to fighting and have been in some bad condition before. Hell I would ignore Goku as well.ABED wrote:Would you make him study all the time? Would you try to determine his career for him? Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Wasn't it Gohan's own idea to become a scholar?
And yeah, I'd be more concerned on my 5 year old being beaten up than my husband who actually enjoys that stuff anyway.
