I personally just don't like the neckerchief, since it's not Trunks' style. The age also bothers me: he's 22 here, so he should look like 23-year-old Trunks now, not 17-year-old.B wrote:I don't understand why people hate Trunks's design so much. It's just 17's outfit.

We have to keep in mind that Toriyama drew fashion trends into Dragonball, hence the neckerchief and Vegeta's moostache.
EDIT: he stated that in a "how to draw manga" book that I once bought (that looking at fashin magazines will give you much better ideas about clothing, and also anatomy (whilst doing a dirty joke about it).

I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. Both Bebi-Vegeta's third (and to some extent second) stage and Super 17 looked really stupid.DNA wrote:I honestly think that all of Baby's forms and Super #17 look really nice

Bebi looked like a total pansy the whole time I saw him. When I saw him with Vegeta I was like WTF! Right there at that moment I knew Toriyama wasn't with this.

We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I assume you're asking if there are more Toriyama drawn designs in the GT Dragon Book? All of the drawings shown are the exact same ones that we've already seen in the both Daizenshuu 7 and the first GT Perfect File. So yeah, there's nothing new. There are however a bunch of character and set designs by GT series designer Nakatsuru Katsuyoshi, the man who came up with the design for almost everything in GT, including Super Saiya-jin 4.RoarkVegeta wrote:Wasn't there more in the GT Dragon Book?
I disagree. We see chibi Trunks as not being flashy and prefering casual and loose fitting attire, especially in a fight. While this could change in 5 years, I still see the neckerchief as being physically and visually awkward, especially since there doesn't seem to be any change in attitude between GT Trunks and what we saw in 28th Budokai Trunks.Kunzait_83 wrote:Dayspring wrote:I personally just don't like the neckerchief, since it's not Trunks' style.B wrote:I don't understand why people hate Trunks's design so much. The thing to bear in mind is that GT Trunks ISN’T the same guy as Mirai Trunks. We don’t really know what “his style” or tastes would be since for one, he’s his own person apart from the Trunks most people tend to think of (the one from the Cell arc), and for another prior to GT we really only spent any significant amount of time with him as an 8 year old, and due to the circumstances of the Buu arc, he spent the vast majority of that time in just a gi. We barely spend any significant time with him to get a clear and concise idea of exactly what kind of person he’s grown up into in the very brief “flash forward” segment at the tail end of the manga.
If it was loose like #17s, I probably wouldn't care as much. As it is, it almost looks like a bowtie.
I don't care what kind of upbringing he had: there's no reason for him to look younger than how he did in the 28th Budokai, let alone if 5 years have passed.Yet again; this is a totally different Trunks from the Cell saga one, with a whole different lifestyle and upbringing. To me, it makes sense for this more “spoiled, corporate” Trunks to be a helluva lot less muscular, developed, and “rugged” for want of a better term than his time traveling counterpart, and more lean and boyish looking, to account for the huge differences between the two.Dayspring wrote:The age also bothers me: he's 22 here, so he should look like 23-year-old Trunks now, not 17-year-old.
I'm not saying he needs to look exactly like 23-year-old future Trunks, just that he should be closer to that look than to 16-year-old future Trunks. I think the fact that 18th Budokai Trunks looks different from future Trunks shows that lifestyle changes will result in them looking different, but aging 5 years should not be the cause of a streamline appearance (unless the streamlining is to make him look like 23-year-old Trunks).

The change in Trunks' appearance is most likely nothing more than Toriyama forgetting the defined chin, or deciding he didn't like it, or his art style had just changed a bit. Case in point, look at Kid Goku drawn in the DB era and look at all of the Kid Gokus he's drawn post Z. The two look entirely different. Heck look at any of his DB work recently. Gohan's hair on the Super Exciting Guide is HUGE. The eyes are all smaller too.
EDIT: This may not be as relevant as I currently think it is, but Time Patrol Trunks is lacking that manly chin as well, which Time Patrol Trunks was also designed by Toriyama. I only bring this up because I heard Time Patrol Trunks was Future Trunks, but he's not called Future anymore because, well, his time has come and gone. His future is literally over 200 years ago. I believe this rumor that Time Patrol is Future Trunks just based on the fact that he has a time machine and a sword.

I have to agree with Kunzait_83, when it comes to trunks looks. I don't really like the style however you can see that they were trying to give a nice little nod to the androids in the way trunks dressed. Also he is right, we have no idea what this Trunk's style is because during the buu saga all he wore was a gi. Now giving his upbringing in this timeline we know this Trunks was spoiled and he grew up in a wealthy, safe environment and to be honest his style does fit the rich kid look. Do I like it? Really, no! Is it fitting? Yea I can see why they chose the look.
I think the real question here is, why did vegeta grow a mustache and cut his hair(worst character design change ever)

Future Trunks actually described No.18's clothings as "similiar to mine" when finally telling everyone what the androids he was familiar with looked like, so it seems even he doesn't have a problem with dressing similiar to them.Kunzait_83 wrote:Thinking about it now, it's also entirely possible that the neckerchief was an intentional nod towards 17. Since this Trunks didn't grow up living in fear of and harboring a seething hatred of the Artificial Humans, it might've been intended as a cute/subtle little way of demonstrating how this incarnation of Trunks is so far removed from his Cell saga alter ego, that he's perfectly alright with (probably doesn't even think anything of) wearing articles of clothing that just so happen to be similar to that of 17 (something that the other Trunks would almost certainly find to be possitively revolting).
I've also always liked Baby and Super No.17's designs. However, with Super No.17, though I like the design itself, I think it only looks cool when drawn with just the right proportions, so he does end up looking pretty bad under some of the lesser animation artists. Though he's in the same boat as perfect-form Cell in the anime on that score.

Well yeah, his later design, but if you look closer, is hair is different from the beginning of the series and the middle/end.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Concerning GT Vegeta, I feel that the haircut was a big improvement. I prefer GT Vegeta to any of the Z material but the mustache was a big mistake.

Yeah, his hair has pretty much no spikes when he has the mustache, but they start to grow out later.DNA wrote:Well yeah, his later design, but if you look closer, is hair is different from the beginning of the series and the middle/end.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Concerning GT Vegeta, I feel that the haircut was a big improvement. Yeah but he was a kid at the time he transformed. Vegeta was regular height. Makes me think more how a kid suddenly turns to an adult. Would Goku look even more different if he transformed as an adult? makes me wonder.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:....Are you serious?
