Most painful thing that happen to Vegeta in your Opinion?
Vegeta is what I will refer to as a "measuring stick" character. Everyone knows that Vegeta is "strong as fuck". And at many points in the series is the number two strongest character, sometimes is even number one, so for Toriyama to show that a villain is a fucking wrecking machine, he will have him beat Vegeta, because:
A. He is a strong character that if beaten will make the reader go "Oh shit!"
B. He isn't the main character

Freeza in general. He messed up Vegeta's life in a way no one else ever accomplished. (Enslaved his people, constantly threatened Vegeta's father into doing what he wanted and eventually killed Vegeta's father when he tried to fight back, blew up his homeplanet thus killing nearly everyone in the saiyajin kingdom, probably humiliated him on a regular basis, eventually killed him...).
If it weren't for whichever of the three saiyajins thought to go look for "Kakarrotto" in the first place, even if Vegeta had continued getting stronger while under Freeza's hold, Freeza probably would've killed him once he began to suspect Vegeta was getting too powerful.
So yeah, whichever of them got the idea to find Goku, hats off to him.
Disclaimer: Not that Vegeta's life didn't immediately get better; he still has terrible luck and sabotages himself sometimes due to being blinded by his ego, but he's still got Bulma, Trunks, and Bura; and they still love him. :3 (Goku cares about him too, in his own way.)

I read several times that Toriyama intended to kill off Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga as he didn't like him, but didn't due to Vegeta having already established a huge fanbase by that time.
And I don't think it's that surprising, I mean there are qualities I like about Vegeta, but bottomline he is a dick most of the time.

I'm pretty sure that was only said in one of those ridiculously fake "Tihashiberi" interviews. Something about Oozaru Gohan eating Vegeta.Tenshinhan-san wrote:I read several times that Toriyama intended to kill off Vegeta in the Saiyan Saga as he didn't like him, but didn't due to Vegeta having already established a huge fanbase by that time.

That would actually have been pretty cool...
Lord Herms typed it once. It was in the Daizenshuu 2 interview.

Re: Most painful thing that happen to Vegeta in your Opinion
I totally agree with you, Vegeta can block out any physical pain thrown at him. Out of all the fighters I think he has one of the highest pain tolerances. However mentally his pride would hurt more than any physical injury, count this after being physically beaten by Freeza; He then witnessed Goku being much stronger than him and he realised his life had been worthless. He would never get to be a super Saiyan, and he would never get to defeat Freeza avenging his people (Although he would never admit) and his pride at having to follow Freeza's every whim all his life.Being hummiliated by Freeza to the point of crying.
He can handle physical pain. But the despair that he felt fighting freeza, that hopelessness... That hurt on a whole new level.
And Freeza did torture him physically and killed him eventually.
So I would say that his fight with Freeza was the most painful thing that happened to Vegeta. And, within it, the hummiliation was worse than anything else.
Vegeta would have hurt, Possibly the most in his life at that moment. Still, I think he is mentally one of the strongest of the characters on the series. I could never imagine anyone (Other than perhaps Goku) enduring what Vegeta had throughout his life. Although arguarbly he did partly enjoy killing people.
What are others takes on this?

Eh... it's ridiculously easy to psych him out. He ignores any evidence given that would make him have to think something through if he's already decided to fight (which can be attributed to most of his beatings). Almost every time a villain who was already king shit of fuck mountain made some sort of metamorphosis, Vegeta's ego would override his ability to sense ki and he would convince himself that the fighter was either weaker or overrated.saiyanprincess wrote:Vegeta would have hurt, Possibly the most in his life at that moment. Oh, and it isn't arguable. He very much enjoyed killing. Filler Vegeta was even worse.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
the namek arc Vegeta is a great character, I love to see little hints on the personality of a character, he is very confident throughout the story even though he knows freeza is that much stronger than him, the first time he gets really "scared" is when the ginyu tokssentai showed up and he still killed one of them off with great personality. Walking around doing everything on his own, this Vegeta puts a smile on my face.Tenshinhan-san wrote: And I don't think it's that surprising, I mean there are qualities I like about Vegeta, but bottomline he is a dick most of the time.
Oh and when he is mocking #19 it is really funny too.

Thanks, Herms I found the quote. From now on when I say that Toriyama screwed Vegeta, I have something to back up my statement.Herms wrote:It was in the Daizenshuu 2 interview.
Vegeta helped in that if he appeared weak Kakarrot or Son Gohan would look that much greater.Akira Toriyama wrote:With Vegeta, well, I don't like him all that much, but he was extremely helpful to have around.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I just found something out, just for the lulz.
Vegeta (in the first half of DBZ) is a character that has all the seven deadly sins (from the Bible) on his concience:
Lust - Slept with Bulma without being married, and probably fantasized when she was busy with Yamcha
Gluttony - As a Saiya-jin, he eats lots of food, and without control
Greed - Greed for power, greed for the Dragonballs
Sloth - Sloth for everyone else's business
Wrath - Oh, yah, need no explanation there
Envy - Envy of Goku and Gohan (Cell Games)
Pride - Pride in himself, at least, and also of his heritage
The sins are all represented by their color. This is funny, as I have another hypothesis that I have pulled out of my ass:
Goku = orange = Gluttony. He eats like a pig.
Vegeta = blue = Pride.
Janemba form 2 = red = wrath. He is made of all negative energy.
Piccolo = green = envy. He is envious of Goku in the beginning of Z.
Bulma = purple = lust. 'Nuff said
