Poor guy's pretty banged up. I hope his recovery goes well.

Seriously, though, all the best to Chris Rager. I hope his recovery is a full and quick one.

Elsewhere on the Internet, some people have a less-than-diplomatic opinion about Mike's "We may not be fans of FUNimation's English dub" line in the news tidbit. While I know Mike didn't mean harm, that line really sounds back-stabby and hypocritical.

When Tenshinhan's Japanese seiyuu died of lung cancer years ago, I didn't say "I never liked the Japanese version of the show, but I hope his family will recover from their loss." I know it's your site, Mike, and you can do whatever you want, but may I suggest you show the same respect to the English cast of the show as I do to the Japanese cast.

Really...? Really...?

Wow.

What's with everyone looking for insults where there aren't any? I didn't say Chris was a bad actor. I didn't say he was a bad person. I've never met him. Maybe he *is* a terrible person for all I know, but I didn't say anything of the sort 'cuz I've got no flippin' idea. I hope all works out. Mr. Satan would want it that way.

The Arabic Goku and Japanese Tenshinhan examples are irrelevant. The person was dead at the time of the post.
Daizenshuu EX wrote:Finally, we are sad to report that the Arabic voice actor for Son Goku, Mr. Zeyad Errafae'ie, passed away on August 26th. He was involved with a car crash and apparently seemed to be getting better, but ultimately did not pull through in the end. Our condolences go out to his family and all of the Arabic dub fans that may have grown up with his performance.
No-one interpreted that last statement as, "What do you mean? How dare you qualify that! Do the people who listened to his voice not mean as much as those who watched it in Japanese?!"

Maybe they did. I dunno. Arabic fans? Did the Internet get mad over that?

I'm not changing my post. I'm not censoring what was written just because some dub fans go out of their way to be hypersensitive about stuff. We wished the man well (and still do); anyone interpreting it as otherwise are the ones showing a lack of empathy.
Captain Awesome wrote:If you had actually paid any attention, you would notice the qualifying statement was there because normally Daizex doesn't cover anything to do with the dub cast. But by all means launch into a self righteous tirade.
And there we go.

I'm still waiting for the day that Hujio starts having to take heat for statements he makes about FUNimation and their treatment of the show, despite being no different from anything I've ever said.

Sorry to throw you under the bus, dude :P.

LATER EDIT: So I'm (sadly) listening to this week's TWiT, and Leo just mentioned how he's never been a fan of Paul Allen, but he's been diagnosed with cancer again and how everyone wishes for his speedy recovery, and then even jokes about how much crap he's given him over the years. And what? Is this a big deal? No. This is commentary. It's obviously genuine and simply stated with surrounding context.

I always felt that Chris' performance as Mr. Satan was one of the more accurate dub performances for secondary characters, and that he did a good job. Regardless of the quality of his performances, though, I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery!

Mr.Rager just doesn't want to fight Cell!

Of course I'm joking with all due respect I wish him the best of health in the future and I hope he gets well soon. He's one of my favorite dub actors.

Best of luck Chris! Hopefully we will see a recovery article in a couple of days.
Here's hoping coming Chris comes out of it with a smile on his face saying it was just a tummy-ache!
I couldn't have said it better myself.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

Apparently this happened some time ago... there are well-wishes on his Facebook page back to the 11th! Unless that's some other tragic event.....

EDIT: Oh... the news blurb says the night of the 10th. How the hell did I miss that?
Cripes, he's been like this for two weeks? That totally sucks. :?

It's pretty upsetting to go back and read the first page criticism, but as always Mike handled it in a thorough and utmost respectable fashion.

When they dub Kai, I'll be sure to at least listen to Mister Satan a little bit ;)

Well, in the latest podcast thread I went back and forth for awhile with a couple people about how Mike wasn't being a dick.

I never said I thought he was a dick, I just thought it was inappropriate to mention a critisism of the work he is involved in during such a tragic report. As I said, I still respect the guy, and his opinions, but it just struck me as odd, and a little insulting, thats all. As others have said, judging by his attitude during the podcasts, VegettoEX is a pretty stand up guy, and even though I have never heard any of the podcasts, going by those opinions, I am pretty sure he was not intentionally trying to be mean.

We see things differently in this matter, no big deal, and no more need be said about it.

I know this is almost a month late, and I'm just getting around to this, but life intervenes for me daily.

And I also know that you've gone over this in Episode 200 of the podcast and so on and so forth.

All I asked was that you show the OTHER types of fans of Dragon Ball the same respect that we do to your kind of fans. As much as you don't want to admit it, there are WAY MORE fans of the English version of the show (cast origination aside) than there are of the Japanese version, at least in the States. The world does not exist in a vacuum where only the Japanese version of the show is the only one you're supposed to like. The world allows you to like more than one version of the same show. What a concept. Although you prefer the Japanese version, I like both the Japanese AND English versions, and other people out there do also. It's almost as if you are begrudgingly recognizing the fans of the English version by adding the line "We may not be fans of the English dub". Why can't you see it from OUR point of view once in a while?

That's the point. This site is not US-specific (I assume you're talking about the current Funi dub, there are at least six English dubs). It's not even English-specific. It's about Dragon Ball.

The reason adaptations of the show aren't talked about as much as the original is simply because they're adaptations. The only way to talk about them is in comparison to the original.

The only thing any dub can do is be different from the original, be less like Dragon Ball.

Since this has been bumped, is Mr Rager alright now?
