1080p isn't the highest available resolution, just TV resolution. Actually that's changed as 2160p TVs are now being made.

That would look awesome.Castor Troy wrote:It would be like scans coming to life!
The DBX look ok in 1080p especialy the movies. But I'm not sure about 2160p they would look pretty blurry and that would be the case other for series to.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:1080p isn't the highest available resolution, just TV resolution. Actually that's changed as 2160p TVs are now being made.

Soppa Saiyjins from Dorgou Ballru Zetto is my favorite transformation everah, especially when Trounksoru did it in front of Seru and when Bejita did it when he faced Jingonigen-hachigo. But for real, I use the FUNi pronunciation. - Soppa Saia People

720p would work out the best for the movies, 1080p kinda pushes it.
And 2160p is the highest available tv resolution today.

How about 4320p?Daimo-Rukiri wrote:1080p isn't the highest available resolution, just TV resolution. Actually that's changed as 2160p TVs are now being made.
@AnimeMakkuo A proper remastering from the original film reel would make the movies looks fantastic on 1080p.

Even with no difference, 1080p would still be better due to the way most TVs scale.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:720p would work out the best for the movies, 1080p kinda pushes it.
Not quite.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:And 2160p is the highest available tv resolution today.
First, starting with QHD they will be switching the names over to the theatrical designation, so it'll be called 4K.
Second, the few TVs that accept that generally won't accept anything resolution wise above 1080p (a few will, most won't.) They are generally for overly rich people who want to watch multiple sports at a time without losing resolution info.
Resolution doesn't matter if you can't do anything with it, so the only thing relevant right now (outside of the quality they digitize cel footage at) is 1080p and lower.

Well you would have to be sitting literally inches from the TV to actually notice and appreciate the difference at 2160p.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:1080p isn't the highest available resolution, just TV resolution. Actually that's changed as 2160p TVs are now being made.

No, you wouldn't need to be literally 'inches'. With a 42 inch television you'd notice the MAX difference if you sat roughly 3 feet (this doesn't take into account quirks that can affect visual quality like brightness or any other number of things), but you'd still notice quite an improvement even with more of a distance.MetalMadness wrote:Well you would have to be sitting literally inches from the TV to actually notice and appreciate the difference at 2160p.

Did Toei release any of the Dragon Boxes or singles in BR in Japan? And if not why would they give Funimation a copy of it on BR? In my opinion Funimation should not tamper with the original Dragon Box masters. You never know what the end result might be with Funimation.
Bald that way

Re: Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?
While this is far from done and the blacks are..um a bit green here"well just the first rendering anyway just for the colors alone" Not including blacks, highlights, and general lighting and the fact that I'm going through each frame doing this.
but this does give a somewhat idea of what they would look at 720p, 1080p was just pushing it for the series.
I obviously missed a few pixels when selecting this frame but I like how it's coming out so far, the colors are becoming crisp(the water scene from the first few seconds if gorgeous!) Blue's are becoming vivid and the skin tones are becoming very natural, problem is while doing this it did fade the blacks so obviously i have to go back and work on the blacks and whites.. as the OP is ugh..not that great atm..

Even if Toei did this, this is probably what it'd look like or just upscaled like what I'm pretty much doing..

But at that point aren't you too close to actually see the entire picture? At a certain point don't you have to get so close to tell the difference that it actually hinders the viewing experience?MarcFBR wrote:No, you wouldn't need to be literally 'inches'. As I said, that would be for the max difference. You would still notice a difference.Taku128 wrote:But at that point aren't you too close to actually see the entire picture? At a certain point don't you have to get so close to tell the difference that it actually hinders the viewing experience?
You've given no context or comparison to what you are scaling so everything you have said is moot.Daimo-Rukiri wrote:Even if Toei did this, this is probably what it'd look like or just upscaled like what I'm pretty much doing..

Re: Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?
I think the Blu-ray Double Features of the movies look great as they are, so a Blu-ray version of Dragon Box: The Movies honestly seems arbitrary to me... I'm seriously pumped for the Blu-ray release of Yu Yu Hakusho coming out in the States and I'm definitely buying them as they're released. I'd be similarly psyched for properly remastered Blu-ray releases of Dragon Ball, Z, and GT.

Re: Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?
We have NO idea if FUNimation received the HD Remasteres from Japan(for yu yu hakusho). It's probably just an upscale, I could be wrong.. Maybe they just couldn't get the Japanese box art?
Re: Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?
I really hope it's not just an upscale, I have the latest DVD releases and the quality is merely serviceable.
I can't imagine the Japanese masters for Yu Yu Hakusho being very expensive, and it hardly seems productive for FUNimation to spend money re-distributing the same content only with slightly better picture quality based off their own masters...

Re: Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?
Still why would they use the dvd's cover art?.. why upscale?.. Meh I have it preordered and I'll be ranting like crazy if it's an upscale.
Re: Should "Dragon Box: The Movies" be released on Blu-ray?
Maybe it's just easier to slap the Blu-ray logo onto their existing box art templates than to design something entirely new based off the Japanese box art?

You've said it's probably just an upscale, that you've preordered it, and you'll be mad if it's an upscale.
You've ordered it with the belief it's an upscale, if you get an upscale, you have no right to be mad.
Which is besides the point. It isn't an upscale from the footage I've seen.
Your entire reasoning for it being an upscale is they are using their own cover art for it.
