Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
I was going to say that it was, but I'm surprised out how many episodes my non-DB stuff totals up to. For DB I have a total of 397 episodes (having all of Z and GT, but only 42 DB episodes), plus 18 movies and specials (I lack DB movie 3, DBZ 11, and the GT special). Meanwhile my non-DB anime amounts to 583 episodes and 23 movies. DB still takes up the largest chunk of my collection though. Yu Yu Hakusho comes in second at 112 episodes, then after that it's mostly just a bunch of 13 or 26 episode series.

Y'all got no taste in anime
I have the DBox 3, with 1 and 2 on the way. But I also own nearly 30 other anime series. And a bunch of movies.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
I've attempted to collect anime in the past, but getting collections was an expensive endeavor.
I've been collecting a bit more now that you can get complete series boxsets for the same price as singles used to be, particularly catering to my Toonami-era tastes. My most recent non-Z Boxset was the Golion Complete Chronology.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
Hmm...at first I was going to say 'no', but then I forgot about the assortment of VHS I've had since they first came out. I guess Dragon Ball is most of my collection, although I still own all of Yuu Yuu Hakusho, the first two hundred five episodes of One Piece, all of Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, the Gundam movie trilogy, Char's Counterattack, and a few other series'. Eventually I want to start getting Ghibli stuff, as well as Hagane no Renkinjutsushi: Fullmetal Alchemist and a few other titles.
Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
I only recently purchased Kai parts 1-4 (this was just before part 5 came out, I think.) And that's all the anime I legitimately own.
Most anime I like doesn't get released here, so I have to import it from the US. And I don't have a credit card, so I gotta use PayPal, which means sites like Amazon that have decent prices most of the time are out of the question. In other words, building an anime collection is pretty pricey for me.
But I make up for it by buying manga, which is a lot cheaper. I own the first two volumes of the Dutch Kanzenban and VizBig DBZ 1-3. That probably means I have more Dragon Ball manga than any other series, but it's not the majority of my collection.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
Naturally it would be, considering how long it is. How many other shows are as long as Dragon Ball and got as many re-releases? Not many.
I've got all of Dragon Ball right now. That's only five boxsets, but in terms of material/episode count, it's the highest.
Dragon Ball = 153 episodes.
Everything else = 117 episodes, two movies.

Yep. I've stumbled upon a few shows I enjoy over the years, but I've never really had that "anime fan" mentality of trying to seek out all sorts of things. I like good TV shows, and I don't really care whether or not they're animated or from Japan.Cipher wrote:Does anyone else just ... not really like anime?
That being said, my #1 anime is easily the Dragon Ball franchise, both in my heart and on my shelves. After 10 years of buying and re-buying it, I'll own all 508 episodes for the first time when Dragon Box 7 is released. Plus the 17 movies and 3 TV specials. What other anime is that long and is actually reasonably and completely purchasable? Maybe One Piece, if FUNimation ever goes past Skypiea.
#2 is the Sailor Moon franchise, which I've also spent 10 years buying and re-buying (though in a much less complicated way than DB). If all goes as planned, I'll finally own that completely at the end of this year, too. In the end, that will only be 200 episodes, 3 movies, and 1 TV special, which is pretty light compared to DB.
Between those two franchises, I just can't afford any other anime (or much of anything, really). But I'll finally be free to look into other stuff in 2012, I guess. The only other anime I own is the original Gundam movie trilogy, and getting more UC Gundam is definitely a priority.
All my American shows and movies combined could probably eclipse Dragon Ball, but individually none of those shows stand a chance (except maybe Stargate, if I had every season).

Same here. I've never considered myself an "otaku" and have always come back to the DB series with Yu Yu Hakusho and Naruto following (I guess I like shonen series where people punch each otherTripleRach wrote:Yep. DB is definitely the majority of my collection. I've purchased and re-sold the majority of the first singles run and the Dboxes will hopefully be my 2nd and final time purchasing the series for keeps.
Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
DB/Z/GT is probably about 70-80% of my collection. I've got a small variety of other shows mixed in as well. Yu Yu Hakusho, Black Cat, Samurai 7, Rurouni Kenshin, Fullmetal Alchemist/FMA Brotherhood, some Naruto, Death Note, and some other stuff I'm forgetting. I was really into anime in college, but I've slowly grown out of it. As of today (since I received my final volume of FMA Brotherhood from Rightstuf in the mail), DB/Z/GT is the only anime I will be buying in the future except for the DVD release of the FMA Brotherhood movie next year. And honestly, I think once the DBox sets and Kai are finished, I'll probably call it quits on the whole thing.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
I'd say it's about 25% of my collection, which is mostly Ghibli movies, some anime I loved from Toonami, some classic unmissable series like Fist of the North Star, Neon Genesis Evangelion and Berserk, movies released by Manga, Mecha and some cheap boxsets of anime series released by Manga too like Tokyo Underground, Heat Guy J, Death Note and Virus Buster Serge. Also got some old Manga VHS tapes.
My collection is quite inconstant though, like I've never owned all the movies because every US DVD release is a different price over here for some reason, once they release Dragon Box Z The Movies then I'll have 'em... and I don't have every Hellsing OVA, I got the first three from Geneon but it looks like I'm gonna have to get the UK releases now since the US ones are much more expensive.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
It used to take up the majority, but now it's about 70% db, 29% one piece and 1% other (various anime items), which will soon change. But yeah the majority for now is DBZ stuff, but that looks to be overtaken by One Piece and Naruto stuff (along with sonic too). As well as some Bishoujo among others. But Dragon Ball will always have a major foothold on my collection and always rank amongst my highest favourites. Looking to get the Dragon Boxes and some other DVD items.
Otaku at heart.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
Dragonball makes up a huge majority of my anime collection. My shelf is mostly cluttered with Dragonball stuff than it is with other figures. I can't really put a number on it but if I had to I say about 85% of my anime collection is DB. But than again, I don't watch much anime.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
Yes, it’s the majority, but purely because I predominantly buy manga and most of series I collect don’t have anime adaptations, not to mention almost zero merchandise. (But if someone made an uncensored Narutaru/Shadow Star anime that covered the whole story I’d be all over that. And creaming myself.)
As much as I love Dragonball, it’s not actually my favourite series. It’s just happens to be the series I’m into with the most merchandise/DVD releases.

Its a majority of my collection. I have all season sets of Dragon Ball, Dragon Boxes 1-6, all the movies in steelbooks, Dragon Ball GT Seasons 1-2 and Dragon Ball Z Kai Parts 1-5. I also own the first part of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, the first two parts of Fist of the North Star, the recent Galaxy Express 999 movies releases, the Ghost in the Shell movie, Parts 1-2 of Death Note, and Trigun.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
Hmm...thinking on it, I have about 2 shelves (double packed so it's 4 rows) on a bookshelf just full of anime, and DBZ takes up about one whole back row. It'd be way too much math that I'm way to lazy to do right now to determine exactly how much episode/feature wise DB is in my collection, but looking at it shelf-wise...let's say that about 25% of my collection is DB/Z/GT.
Now I feel like the token otaku.

Same here, yup. The entire "anime fan" mentality is silly. Like stuff for its qualities, not for its nationality.TripleRach wrote:Yep. As for Dragonball making up the majority of my collection... I think it does. I got a bunch of smaller sets of various stuff, but I don't think it totals up to 500+ episode and 17 movies.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
I don't even own the Dragon Ball anime, just the manga
. But I dislike anime in general since their manga originals are 99% of the time better than the animes.
Anyway, I don't think its a very good idea to just limit ourselves to Dragon Ball in the world of anime and manga. There are lots of great series, franchises and works in that world which are very worthwhile.
That being said, Dragon Ball is a significant part of my manga collection at the moment because I don't own that much manga right now, but it will decrease as I buy new manga that I like.

Re: DB Majority of Anime Collection?
I'm estimating that Dragon Ball/Z/GT/Kai is about a third of my collection in anime. The OP didn't ask about manga, but I'll answer anyway. Dragon Ball makes up for less than one seventh of my manga collection.
