Did Yamcha retire from martial arts?
Re: Did Yamcha retire from martial arts?
Well, Akira Toriyama did say Yamcha and Puar work as bodyguards. There has to be some fighting involved there right?

Re: Did Yamcha retire from martial arts?
Yamcha in buu saga was seen in the otherworld training against Olibu and Gorilla. Kurillin then states "Great if we were back on Earth we couldn't get him to train but here he's a star". This is from the Dragon Ball Z anime so i hope this contributes to discussion. This could mean he trained still yet inconsistently or more over not at all. I will try to find something of this nature from the manga.

It contributes as much as anythign else, I'd say. There's really no decisive word on it in the manga itself, so any evidence from other media would be welcome, as far as I'm concerned.Careless Saiyajin wrote:Yamcha in buu saga was seen in the otherworld training against Olibu and Gorilla. Is this from the original, or one of the dubs?

I would agree with you that based on the material we've discussed thus far it seems pretty much to be speculation. Also, to answer your question this is from the Funimation dub. (Which i understand is by no means the end-all-say-all definitive for everyone)Kamiccolo9 wrote:It contributes as much as anythign else, I'd say. Well, in the anime its said he did stop training, but then he started training again when he died. So yes and no?

Then the anime follows the manganese again and filler Yamcha doesn't train again. Though I'm sure had he stayed dead that he would be Filler Yamcha foreverKid Buu wrote:Well, in the anime its said he did stop training, but then he started training again when he died. So yes and no?

Yes and no seems to be right, however if i had to draw an opinion based conclusion then at this point the drift i get from this is that he retired being consistent with his training. He seems to fall off and stop training yet begin again when interest or inspiration sparks at that moment. This perspective seems to be conveyed to me by his attitude in the otherworld combined with his habits later on earth. If i stumble upon anything of use from the manga regarding the subject i will be sure to mention it.Kid Buu wrote:Well, in the anime its said he did stop training, but then he started training again when he died. No, he retired from making an ass of himself.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
