I totally agree with you, reading the series from start to finish is just... so... awe-inspiring. Anyway, I'm also working my through the entire series from beginning to end. At the moment (as of last night) I'm half-way through the Red Ribbon Army Saga of DragonBall. I find it amazing that everytime I watch the series over, I always seem to find something new, that I missed the other times or forgot about.Dayspring wrote:Isn't it an awesome feeling, reading the series from start to finish? I think I've done it at least 10 times.
When did you last watch Dragon Ball?

I've never tried it but at estimate (with a high school reading comprehension) how long does it take to read volume 1 - 42? I seem to read the manga a lot slower than books because I have to admire Toriyama's art. Someone who has done it, please let me know.

I usually like to take about a week to read through the series. That way I can spend a little more time just looking in amazenment at the art. For those that own them, I highly suggest you read through the series in the Tankoubon format and then re-read it with the Kanzenban format... It's like night and day.

Get the first Ultimate Uncut here in the U.S., or Madman's version? Their version actually excludes the Spanish-Mexican audio track and also erases out the DBZ Trivia mini section. Darn for buyers of that version.Caracal wrote:Movie 9, which I got when I was in the US last summer. I did also get the first "Un-cut DBZ" DVD but haven't watched it yet.

Hmm, this is an interesting topic. So I think I shall post.
Now, as far as how recently I've watched-- I'll say about two weeks ago (I am going through a Stargate SG-1 phase right now,) I watched the episode where Son' finally transforms into Super Saiyajin again, in Japanese, because that's such an amazing scene!
Then directly after that I watched the Tournament part of the Ma Jr/Piccolo Jr. story arc.
Once I've finished watching seasons 1-8 of Stargate SG-1, I am going to move back into DB, and watch it from episode 1 and onward. Sadly, I do not have the corrusponding dvds passed the Android arc, so I'll be stuck there until I empty my pockets to continue my purchases.
Anyway, DragonBall start to end is a good, and sizable watch anyway. So I really don't mind.
Normally, though, I usually watch a few episodes a week, so I've got some watching to catch up on!

Despite the fact that my DVDs are second-audio deficient (pushing me ever closer to actually importing Madman's release) I do have them on dvd from our ever popular, ever confusing, ever obfusticated friend Kidmark/TriMark/Lion's Gate Films-- whom have continually been the hot topic for disenfranchising Funinmation's rights to redistribute those episodes properly in the U.S.!masenko wrote:How will you go about watching episodes 1-13? Dragon Box?
Way to go guys!
Anyway, yes, suffice to say-- I will be watching THAT dub, for those episodes, until which time I see it fit to do a little more importing, and own a proper (albeit Pal format) release of the dvds. Or until such time as Funimation is legally capable of publishing the dub they've sat on their hands about in the US. Swing and a miss.
Edit: As much as I would like to say otherwise, I do not own a DragonBox; however much I would love to for that arc of the series. However, come March I will own the movie box, so I shall be contented with my hefty investment. Thank you Toei Animation for making me spend a butt load on this; and as well to Amazon, for saving me quite a bit on this upcoming purchase.
Reading the Manga through can take a short time, like mentioned before...or an ungodly long time, like it is for me right now.
That would be because I am only allowing myself to read 4 chapters a night.
And I do wish I could read the Kanzeban, but alas...I am limited to English and thus Viz has become my friend...and lucky for me, I keep track of every mistake they make so I know what is true and isn't.

Last time I watch DBZ was like 3 or 4 months ago? It was Imperfect Cell Saga Episodes 133.

I don't really buy DVDs or Tapes, so I only watch it when it's on TV. And at the moment, they only have GT, on Friday night and Saturday morning (same episode, so I would really only watch one at most). And I don't even like GT that much, so I don't watch it every time.
I do have one DVD though, which I won from the now-dead DragonBall GT Network site.
The satellite (for TV) wasn't working earlier this week from the weather, so I watched a bit of the DVD to kill some time. It was the Devil Mite Beam episode.

It depends. I read it at my leisure, so anywhere between a week and a month for me (usually a week). Once I read it all in only about 2-3 days, but did nothing else (even skipped a mealmasenko wrote:I've never tried it but at estimate (with a high school reading comprehension) how long does it take to read volume 1 - 42? I finished the first disc of "The Fortune Teller Baba Saga" set about two weeks ago. I've got a lot of DB/Z/GT stock piled to watch though. I have the second disc from that set, "The Red Ribbon Army Saga" set, GT volumes 3-5 left to watch, as well as the first LE Disc, the tv special, and a Fusion Saga DBZ disc that I bought because it had 4 episodes.

I was going to start a new topic for this but I'd rather just put it in here. A lot of people refer to how Toei screwed FUNimation out of a couple items. I just want to know what exactly did Toei forget to give to FUNi as well as why their releases have such superior video quality?

The general consensus is that Toei didn't forget to give Funimation anything. What was widtheld from them, was the original print of the series' (hence why Funi's remastered versions over, and under-compensate for various aspects of the image quality for the series,) only giving Funimation a copy of said print, so the quality took a nose dive. This original print, however, is what Toei then used for their expensive, highly saught after DragonBoxes-- which in turn makes them more popular among savvy fans for better image quality.masenko wrote:I was going to start a new topic for this but I'd rather just put it in here. In general the differences between them are quite bold. Funimations prints are shit by comparison.
Also, Funimation never recieved clean title cards from what I've heard-- so they had to make their own from stills of each episode. lol. (I could be wrong about this, but this is just what I've read, and been told.)
