Does Bulma have somewhat inappropriate character judgments?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

I know there's not a lot of women here but...is not the title and the subject of this topic a bit...inappopriate ?

Bulma enjoys her life as a lot of men does (and are called playboy). She's selfish, eccentric, but...slutty ?

It was the only word I could have thought of that more or less everyone would be familiar with. Using "flirty" is too light while using "promiscuous" is too extreme and using "liberated" may come off as unclear.

I'm not speaking english fluently, so slutty in my mind is pejorativ, like hoor...So, maybe I'm wrong and don't understand well !

It's a little subjective. The idea of not "slut-shaming" makes implicit that being a slut is okay, so the word describes something that can be good or bad depending on your perspective, not something that is automatically negative. Way back, it was simply a slur, but I think the word has been in transition/been battled over for many decades now.

Now, did Bulma sleep with a lot of guys? No, so I don't think the word fits her either way.

Was she desperate for a boyfriend and also keen on trying to use her sexuality to get what she wanted? Absolutely, but I'm not sure there's really been a word for that ever. A flirt? Bulma takes it a bit further than that.

And "slutty" brings so clearly loaded with negative implications that really no one could be mistaken with the title. Sorry, but I if it isn't a slur I don't know what is. The idea of "slut-shaming" relys on the implication that women should be ashamed of their sexual choices unless they fit one and only true value.
Sorry, but I find this title really unfit for this site.

Could you suggest a better word for slutty? It's just that... it's a very common term used by women in those situations. Promiscuous/sexually-active/liberated/flirty just doesn't fit the bill as compared to "slutty" when that term gets thrown around.

Your thread, your problem. Indeed, none of this words bears the same meaning, because most of them don't pass the judgament (maybe sans promiscious) and none of them is used as a slur. Moreover, most of them are accepted in polite society, while calling someone slut can earn you a bad opinion at best. I know that there are women who are more tah happy to use that word to judge others, just lije there are people who use racial slurs. But maybe not here.

Bulma's not slutty, just lightly promiscuous when desperate. And I mean really desperate. It's not as if she'll give herself out to every Tom, Dick and Harry just she enjoys it, but that doesn't mean she won't resort to using her sex appeal to get what she really wants or if it will save her life. She was only willing to expose herself to get Dragon Balls on two separate occasions and she only tried to seduce General Blue because he was about to kill her, Krillin and Goku. She's more, shallow, shameless and hollow than pure slutty.

No. Myself and i'm sure most casual viewers just see her as the token female of the show. That whole "slut" image is because of all the perverted fan-art/fiction floating around on the web. This applies for a lot of female anime characters really.

She's not slutty at all. She just uses her female body parts to her advantage. Like what most other women do.

No offense, but complaining about something like that and not offering a better alternative...just really doesn't seem very productive. I mean, I agree, a better word could probably have been chosen, but...

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

Shallow and shameless I would say.

I think the thing that a lot of people tend to forget when threads such as these - ones discussing 'bad' traits of characters I mean - tend to forget is that, despite whatever horrible things can be said about any of our hero characters in the series...they're still 'good' at the end of the day. And really, that's something else I've always liked about the series. I doubt Toriyama meant it that way at all, but to me it comes off as a great show of the imperfections real life people have, and how there's usually at least a little bit of good somewhere in there, even if some of their more major traits make you sure you'd never want to hang out with them.

I've always considered Bulma to be very flirtatious.I live in Maryland and in my area, many people refer to Bulma as a "thot" (a slang term for "whore). While yes, Bulma is very very open with her sexuality, I've never considered her a whore.

Honestly, my first impression of Bulma was that she was a spoiled brat with a hot temper.
