I agree that fans should be respectful but what it boiled down to was a fan essentially saying "Schemmel sucks" followed by Schemmel joining the discussion to confront him. Schemmel was not interested in interacting with fans other than Penguintruth.

I think part of the problem is that, with a public forum like this, the genuinely interesting questions will inevitably get drowned out by a sea of praise (or criticism) and go unnoticed. Instead of a fun and interesting discussion it would most likely devolve into pages worth of users giving empty praise, asking questions with obvious answers or ones that have already been asked before, then you've got the users who'll
insist on divulging their own personal stories to the actor. Honestly, if I was an actor in Schemmel's position I wouldn't want to deal with that headache either (never mind the potential trolls). He get's paid to do this type of fan interaction at conventions and I think that's where it will stay (aside from the odd Reddit AMA which.. have all the problems I previously mentioned).
