Hey congratulations, it is great news that a member of kanzenshuu was selected for such an important job.
This is a for-profit company, so we cannot go full Kanzenshuu and use fan nomenclature, but we do have a great team working to make sure the names stay as correct as viably possible
That makes sense. As someone with profesional experience in Language Interpretation English-Spanish can say that what matters the most is to keep the meaning, what the original message is trying to convey. No one should worry too much about how things are spelled, the fandom should be tolerant with it. Thankfully mexican dub prepared us with "Picoro" and "krilin.

I believe having hired a fan in the Team is a great move from the publishing house. How did you get the job? Did you just apply online? Were there many rounds of interviews? Did you talk to japanese people? How exciting amigo, please tell me more.

Lots of succes!

I mean... some things are just outright wrong and should be avoided at all costs  (Namely, dub terminology)

I mean, I cannot specify everything... But I can tell you how I managed to get Dragon Ball.

The first series I ever translated for this publishing house was Tokyo Ghoul :re, (with Death Note Short Stories and Look Back mixed in between). Sometimes, I would need to call up my editor, and every single phone call, I would always make sure to say "if you ever think about getting Dragon Ball, PLEASE give it to me. I'll make sure it gets the treatment it deserves." I think I said it about four times total.

Well, eventually, I started running out of volumes of Tokyo Ghoul to translate. And I had a brand new car that needed being paid for. So I called up my editor saying that I needed a new series to translate. She only replied with: "Don't worry. We'll get you something." And I'm pretty sure I could hear the mischievous smile in her voice.

A few weeks later, she said she had a new series for me. But before telling me what it was, I had to sign an NDA. I don't even have a printer at my place, so I had to go to a copy shop just to print it out, sign it, and then scan it back up, overflowing with curiosity the entire time. Even when I sent it to her, she still wouldn't immediately tell me what series it was she had planned for me. I knew Dragon Ball was a possibility, but I thought it was just too good to be true. Well, when she called me up two weeks later to basically tell me that my wish had been granted... I screamed so loudly I swear to God I got genuinely sick afterwards

Do these get sold to Macau as well since people speak Portuguese over there?

Devir isn't exactly known for leaving stuff unfinished

I have no idea, but I would assume not. You'd have to import them.

Do you know if the release date is still meant to be next month? There's nothing on Devir's site as of yet.

Thanks! I could hardly believe it myself when I was given the project :D

One question for anyone that has the old Asa edition: could you tell me how they translated "Red Ribbon Army"?

I don't have the volumes with me at the moment but it was "Exército Red Ribbon" iirc. They definitely left the "Red Ribbon" part untranslated (probably because of the RR logos). A smart move imo.

It is with unbridled joy that I hereby announce that I have been selected as the official Portuguese translator for manga publishing house Devir's new project: the one, the only DRAGON BALL :D :D :D

Translated from the original Japanese, a first for any Portuguese edition, and with the utmost attention to even the smallest details, this will be a release that I can be really proud of!

Maybe you could translate the portuguese dub of dragon ball with english sub titles that would be nice

I can't speak Portuguese (and I think it would cost a billion euros to ship those volumes to Italy anyway), but congratulations on such an achievement!

I have it ordered, but it will only be delivered next week. I'll try to check it out in some bookstore this weekend, if I can find it. I'm curious about the print quality.

Many congratulations OP! Hope you have a good run.

I'm sure you will do your best, but don't sweat it if some "lost in translation" issues occur, that's just part of the trade.
