I wish this dub was available on DVD.

I'd take it over the FUNi cast if it had a different (better) script...but non-original dubs just aren't for me.

Ocean cast came first. I consider them the original dub. :P

How did the Kamehameha just get his head and arms? Wouldn't it also get his upper body section?

As Naruto fans would say... "Plot No Jutsu."

I guess you could call it "Plot Hame Ha" here.

Wow. What awful dialogue wasted on such talented VA's.

They truly make Funimation's clowns sound like shit but with lines like that I simply don't know which is worse.

I think they sounded Ok, but they sounded too whimpy. But the "Everyone get down, get moving! Goku is realeasing his Kamehameha!" line of Piccolo synced better than Funi's version. In Funi's version Piccolo is quiet with open mouth in 2 seconds, but in this dub he is quiet in "only" one second.

Ah-ha!

Yeah. The Japanese voices are the best.

... The dialogue in the Ocean version is near-verbatim to what's in FUNi's dub. :P

Most scenes have the exact same dialogue, correct?

Indeed. I've compared my Ocean tapes to FUNi's DVDs, the script is almost exactly the same in both versions.

i'v gots loads of this version on old vhs's i taped off of tv! yeah it was okay, but when they showed it, i was sorta upset because they dropped the FUNi dub for it, and i was use to it by then! but on the bright side they finished dubbing this quicker then FUNi did! i find the music the worse part of all on the saban dub, atleast they could have used the japanese bgm!

I don't get it. Ocean Studios used to be the best group of voice actors in town. What happened, did some of them leave? I still prefer Scott McNeil's Piccolo and Saffron Henderson's Gohan over their Funimation counterparts though. On the other hand, we can't be too quick to judge them just on this one clip..

Truth be told, nothing really happened, they're all still a solid group of voice actors. From what I remember, they didn't have as much time to 'perfect' every last bit of dialogue. Basically, a rushed effort, and a good one at that from what I remember reading, but correct me if I'm wrong of course.

This dub seemed to have suffered from the lack of original music at all (tracks from Digimon, Monster Rancher were used often). Furthermore, time to time the sound effects that were used weren't even from the original Japanese version.

Cell's voice is just.....no. He'll atomize the Earth?

I'm trying not to be too quick to judge, but what are episodes 165-178 like with that Gohan voice? The thought of listening to Gohan's flashback sequence about his hidden power with that voice just makes me want to cry.

Oh god. I found it on Youtube.

I could watch that scene over and over for months on end with the Funi dub. But, with that dialog and those VA's, my eyes are getting watery. Gohan's VA makes him seem 5 years younger than he really is. "Lose your restraints" compared to "Drop your restraints" from 16 seems out of character.

I remember reading a couple months ago about there being a different English dub, but I never looked into it. This is cool though to find out that the Funi dub isn't the only one. Also, if anyone wants more Ocean dub examples, here's a popular scene everyone should remember with Vegeta:

I'd forgotten how much Cell sounded like Space Ghost... ugh

Good actors, bad voice choice, worse scripts.

That's what happened in Season 3 as well, rush job. Also I think it's a matter of bad directing as well. Same thing happened with the Sailor Moon movies' dubs. They sound a lot better in the series than they did in those movies.
