Anyone ever get embarrassed?

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

What I noticed is, you are really serious , eh? With that 'embarassing stuff'.
We don't even have a store with DBZ stuff here. Only option is amazon or other only sites, where you never met the man behind the cash register or any employee. I don't know how it feels to buy DBZ stuff openly.

Right after I finish doing the new DBAF pages, I'll make an instructional video on how to properly perform a kamehameha.

There shall be no embarassment, only love.

Like what you like, don't be embarrassed.

I like Dragonball, I'm not embarrassed.

If I watched (and enjoyed) reality television and jumped on the bandwagon of every generic pop-punk-rubbish band out there like my friends do, then I would feel embarrassed.

I had the same problem. My father made me feel stupid for watching Pokemon when I was 10. And when I was watching it and he came into the room, I'd turn it off and leave.

I'm never ashamed of any of my Dragonball purchases.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Yeah I never really care when I walk to the counter with a Dragonball item, I get more embarrassed buying my Shojo titles or Yaoi. I always get weird looks from the cashier; I don’t look like the sort of person who’d be interested in that stuff.

My dad treated it the same way. I watched it anyway, of course, and eventually kinda won him over to it and anime in general.

Problem is, now he watches the Naruto fillers. Ugh. Well, I tried.

I keep my Manga/Anime interest a secret, and here's why...

I have a friend at school who does these things:

1. Likes Anime(Publicly)
2. Makes Animal Suits(For Sex!!!)
3. Wears them to the school ball
4. Posts pictures of himself in a female suit on top of his friend in a male suit
5. Draws Wolves everywhere
ETC

Now people at my school have connected Anime with Wolf Suit Homosexual Love(I am not kidding). So I keep my collection of DBZ etc in the bottom of a cuboard in the attic.
Wow, unreal, my gosh....This is amazing! I feel incredible! Yes Yes Yes Yes! I can win, I feel great, I can do this eyah!

Jed, that sucks. Remember, kids, anime isn't always furry; it's just what brought it to the public.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
That has to be the funniest thing I've heard all day. But yes It's people like that that put a bad taste of Anime in peoples mouths

Not so much anymore. Back when I was a newbie I was nervous about buying my db stuff (I missed out on so much cool dbz merchandice at Suncoast because of that TT_TT ) but now I'm pretty layed back about it. Before my Suncoast shut down in the summer of 03, everyone who worked there knew me as that girl who buys dbz dvds.

I still don't buy manga at the bookstore I work part-time at, but I do buy it at its partner store at the mall. :3
Ironically, none of that manga is db (which I finished before I changed jobs.)
On hiatus.

I've never been embarrassed about buying DB related merchandise. If you've seen my collection, I pretty much bought anything that had a Super Saiyajin on it. On the other hand, I've had my fair share of buyer's remorse. After all, who needs a second copy of Super Butouden 3, a near complete second set of the DB tankoubon or even a single copy of the horrendously bad DB Final Bout?

I've been a fan of anime for 12 years. I'm way past the point of feeling embarrassed for any anime related purchases, including Dragonball (though, really, I don't remember ever feeling embarrassed at all....)

It's sometimes hard to admit that Dragonball is my favorite to other anime fans, though. They're very judgmental....if you say something like "Cowboy Bebop" is your favorite, no one questions it, but if you say "Dragonball", then it feels like you have to defend your choice. Not that I really care about explaining myself to n00bs, but the atmosphere at anime conventions is often quite anti-DBZ.

Dragonball Z is pretty much aimed at teenage boys. If you're still pretending to be Goku at age 30, yes, you should be embarrassed. In fact MOST anime would be embarrassing to be a fan of once you're a grown man (with few exceptions, obviously).

.... *raises an eyebrow* And why is this?

I started watching Ninja Turtles basically in utero, and I still like it now. And that's Ninja Turtles- silly goofy stuff without a real plot.

So why should we be embaressed for, at the same time, liking something with plot and meaning and depth?

Totally disagree. I would call you ignorant but I won't since I can't make out what you mean by ''most anime'' or ''grown man''.

I know I'll never grow out of cartoons.

I'm in my 20's now, and I spent the last two weeks on vacation at my girlfriend's parents house, and you know what, I brought my fucking cartoons with me, we all sat around and watched Tintin, it was awesome and I was a hero.

The only thing I see changing by the time I'm 30, is that my collection will have increased substantially.

I've never been ashamed of my DBZ fandom. If it comes up I talk about it. When I used to work at Toysrus I'd throw mock Kamehameha's at my co workers, and they'd throw one back, so it was always in good fun.
