Why would the Daizenshuu add a tidbit that directly contradicts spoken dialogue like that?
The Daizenshuu contradicts a lot of the filler that took place in the anime. Are you sure that that line was in the manga?
That line was in the Japanese version...not so sure about the manga.

Edit: Volume 17 of Dragonball has Raditz stating that their parents were killed when Planet Vegeta was destroyed.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Just because Raditz says it doesn't mean it's true. We've got characters spouting incorrect things all the time simply because they don't know any better. I mean, in the same scene were Raditz explains that their parents died in the planet's destruction he also says the planet was destroyed by an asteroid.

The line about "Goku's mother dieing of disease" sometime after Planet Namek's destruction is a mistranslation, either from Greg Werner or the French translation of Daizenshuu 7. The original line says Chi Chi's mother dies of disease.

This makes me believe that Kakarrot’s mother was going to play some kind of a role later on in the series. However, in light of editors and Mr. Toriyama becoming irritated and tired of the series he never got the opportunity to implement his desires and he gave the readers that note in order for everyone to get an idea of what might have came about later on in some manner. This also makes me wonder what happened to Queen Vegeta.
Dayspring wrote:Does anybody know where Toriyama first came up with the idea for the Saiyan Civil War, or have any other details about it other than that it took place? I can't remember the interview or find any info other than the daizenshuu 7's entry for the year 735, but when you look at the filler stuff, it seems strongly hinted at....
I ran across the information concerning the Saiyan civil war a while back and I wanted to explore that idea a little but there are so many unanswered questions. Like for instance did it start because some of the Saiyans felt that King Vegeta was not doing enough to free them from Freeza’s control? Looking at it from a different perspective was it that some was loyal to Freeza while the others wanted to rebel against him. Looking back at the (dubbed) Bardock special, we see how Bardock was angered when he and his crew was attacked by Dodoria and his elites. Bardock said something to the effect that they were loyal to Freeza and that there was no reason for their actions. I also remember that in the anime when Kakarrot first encounters Freeza in battle there is a flash-back with Freeza recalling all the Saiyans that he had personally fought and that no one had the level of power that Kakarrot had. Perhaps these were some of the members of the opposing faction in the civil war.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

And Herms steps in to strike down the argument in a single blow. :)

It's advanced enough that Vegeta can be beat to within an inch of his life, be on life support for a couple weeks, then sit in a tank for a bit and come out fully healed. I think it can handle birth, if they even have to use it.

On a more serious note, I don't quite get the fascination with Goku's mom. From what we know of Saiyans, it's easy to construct the scene:

-Saiyan girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a big thing in his face.
-Bardock gets sprung.
-They fuck in the mud.
-Bardock gives his ID and ten bucks, they go back into the bar for more beer.
-A few days later, chick gives the ID to the registry service/hospital.
-Months later, there was Kakarot. Confirmed as Bardock's kid, assigned to weak planet, fired off.
-Babymomma attempts to get on the next mission going out because GODDAMMIT I AIN'T KILLED ANYTHING IN MONTHS
-Planet Vegeta explodes.

What makes you so sure there was a Saiya-jin queen?, for all we know they just have dirty unprotected space sex, pop out the kid, then continue slaughtering aliens and feeding off of their carcasses like nothing happened.

And Herms completely and utterly won this thread.

Circa Age 731: The Saiya-jin team up with Freeza and begin a universal land shark business. King Vegeta takes a queen.

Warriors Uttering their First Cry

Age 732: Vegeta is born
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

No fair! I believe I recall Snail saying "No Whammies! No Whammies! Stop!" :P

Thanks for pointing that out. It's a mistranslation on Glénat's part. You know it's getting old when you're considering buying VIZ's non-existant version. :P

I'm not going to lie; that could make for a good fanfiction story/manga. Lots of place you can go with that one; after the end of Z timeperiod has been way overdone.

I'm Forgotten Hero...I'm not Future Gohan! Sorry, I'm cranky today.
I guess the medical tank might have played a part in her quick recovery. Still weird. But eh!

Turnip...Fan names piss me off a little. Names like Future Gohan or Future Trunks are fine, since one may have to distinguish between time lines.
But Mystic Gohan and Turnip?!? "Just go home Gohan!" -Gozar

Is Turnip meant to be a fan Saiyan name for Gohan or something? That is weird, although it's no weirder than any of the other pun names if you think about it.

But Mystic Gohan...even though it's just a fan term, it does make a distinction. Fanish or not, most people know just which version of Gohan you mean if you call him Ultimate or Mystic.

It's Dragonball. The ruler of Earth is a dog and the world's hero is named Satan. Don't forget that God a green slug like alien. Confusion and nonsense is a must.

Someone did mention that possibility already. But as Rocketman said, the heart disease was viral in nature. It seems more likely that he caught it somewhere between Namek exploding and him returning to Earth. Especially if it was just a mistranslation.
