These weren't things the majority of fans did. These were just a couple of isolated incidents throughout a six-hour period. Overall, I had fun at this red carpet, the BoG red carpet, and the regular screening on BoG. Don't let my irrational nonsense taint your view of the whole event.

Seriously? This shit happened!? And at the fucking Red Carpet Premier!?! That sounds so awful.Kendamu wrote:Things that irked me irrationally yesterday at the DBZ Red Carpet:
- People pronouncing Gine as "Jain."
- People who read the manga with "Jain" but have no clue who Jaco is.
- People who say "Akira pulled a George Lucas when he rewrote his old Bardock story."
- People who refer to Akira Toriyama as "Akira."
- People who won't stop yelling "Mardi Gras Freeza" in a crowded theater while a movie is playing and doesn't understand why everyone's paying attention to the movie instead of him.
I think that last one is just "rude people in a theater." The rest are stupid things that bother me more than they should.

Makes you wonder what Akira Toriyama thought of his fanbase when they were calling him Akira.Lord Beerus wrote:Seriously? This shit happened!? And at the fucking Red Carpet Premier!?! That sounds so awful.Kendamu wrote:Things that irked me irrationally yesterday at the DBZ Red Carpet:

I find hilarious as fuck someone complaining about how people call the man "Akira" (which is his name), when there are many calling him "AT" (which is not his name).
Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy
Both are equally as stupid. Full name or last name like any reasonable person addresses somebody famous.Dyno wrote:I find hilarious as fuck someone complaining about how people call the man "Akira" (which is his name), when there are many calling him "AT" (which is not his name).

How in the world do you even remotely get "Jain" out of "Gine"? I honestly don't even see how. I mean, I hate "Seyun," but at least I can easily see how it would come from "Saiya-jin." But this...?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think when he wrote "Jain", it was meant to be pronounced as "jyne" and not "jayne" like it looks.Gaffer Tape wrote:How in the world do you even remotely get "Jain" out of "Gine"? Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy
I don't really run into "AT" much. Usually it's just, "Uh-kee-ruh blablabla."
As for "Jain," I'm talking about the pronunciation. Soft G (a J sound), followed by "ine" being pronounced like "Einstein."
Again, I was just venting a couple of dumb things I overreact to that I came across recently. Don't let it paint the whole picture.

You mean they are pronouncing it as "J-eye-n"? That's bad.
I guess I can't fault them for not learning just basic Japanese language rules.

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

There are times when I refer to him as AT, but only while I'm typing and I feel too lazy to put his entire name. If I were to see him or if I'm talking to someone in person, I always say Akira Toriyama.Dyno wrote:I find hilarious as fuck someone complaining about how people call the man "Akira" (which is his name), when there are many calling him "AT" (which is not his name).

Okay, at least that I can understand where it came from, but still... It sounds like an abbreviation for "vagina," and while, often that's all Toriyama seems to utilize his female characters for, I don't think even he'd be so blatant about it.

Isn't Chichi another name for boobs? I could have sworn I read about that somewhere. If it is than a vagina reference name doesn't sound so out there.Gaffer Tape wrote:Okay, at least that I can understand where it came from, but still... It's Japanese slang for breasts.Kid Buu wrote:Isn't Chichi another name for boobs? I could have sworn I read about that somewhere. I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

It's a baby word for breasts.

Re: What phrases/opinions/things bring out your irate fanboy
I've seen someone who thinks Sonny Strait's Usopp from One Piece is "too hoarse" while Jason Griffith's isn't, yet prefers Carter Cathcart's Meowth on Pokemon over his other two English actors (who for the record most of the Pokemon fandom agrees did a much better job than Cathcart does). I normally don't mind people having different opinions but stuff like this gets to me- I just can't agree with any of it.cpuguy18 wrote:These people exist ?Theophrastus wrote:There are also people who hate the Funimation One Piece voices and insist that the 4Kids pirate rap is the best OP for the series and nothing else compares. I'd hazard a guess that these are the ones with the most in common with English DBZ dub super-fans.ShadowDude112 wrote:"The English dub is the best. I need my super hero dialogue and my synthesized music for DBZ to be good."
"His name is Bills. Beerus is wrong."
That second one gets me. The first one is just strange. Because like, One Piece was like the DBZ dub and fans hated it and threw a fit. It's like, if it's DBZ, that's okay. But no other anime can be changed.
Also I couldn't believe people liked the rap at all, but yeah, there are some who do.

It's not a baby word, too. It's a part of the indigenous Japanese vocabulary that sounds vulgar compared to that of Chinese origin.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Oh yeah, correction:kei17 wrote:It's not slang.DBZAOTA482 wrote:It's Japanese slang for breasts.

vulgar <-------------------> polite
oppai, chichi, chibusa, nyuubou
Paipai is the baby word for breasts, and mune is an euphemism.

I thought mune meant chest.

And part of the joke is that since she's the Ox King's daughter, it fits the bovine theme, right? Ox --> cow --> udder --> breast.
