I would not call Cell backup when he's meant to be the pinnacle of Gero's creations, and programmed to devour the others. Cell was always going to be born, so he was always going to go after 17. 17 suddenly being called the ultimate android is no different to me than Freeza suddenly being labelled a prodigy from out of nowhere.LSSJGODSSJ4Gogeta wrote:dbzfan7 wrote:I guess you can't take a joke huh? My "official fanfiction" comment is purely on the idea being so dumb that a couple of 17 fangirls probably came up with it. Of course it's official material, but I merely joke it's official fanfiction as it sounds like it. I use the same description to describe some of the new Freeza stuff too. I also would call Episode of Bardock to be official fan fiction as that's what it felt like to me.LSSJGODSSJ4Gogeta wrote:It's not a fan fiction, that's for unofficial media. It's canon to the anime,so what if it isn't manga canon.
The plot wasn't bad,the execution just left a lot to be desired, I mean it could have been much better Wasted potential, I love the arc but it could have been better. 17 being Gero's favorite to become the ultimate android isn't a bad thing, not at all.
It was a lamer fusion reborn. 17 being the ultimate android is absolutely stupid as that is what Cell was. Hence Cell was built to absorb 17 in the first place. It's totally silly for 17 to suddenly be the real ultimate android when his main purpose as far as Gero was concerned beyond killing Goku, was to be fed to Cell.
Cell might have been a backup if he could make 17>his plans for perfect cell.
Also because a lot of kids think shit like funimation made GT because the join the bandwagon of hate without even watching, its hard to tell if you were serious in thinking GT is a fan fiction,it seamed so stupid, didnt know it was just a joke. That's common with txt though haha.

Kenshin is pretty good, discounting the later filler. I didn't find much fault with Inuyasha, either.Doctor. wrote:Monster is as close to perfection when it comes to anime as you're gonna get. Not to mention, both of those have far better characterization than Dragon Ball, as well.

I didn't mention Kenshin because the anime was a fillerfest and didn't adapt the last arc (and I haven't watched Tsuiokuhen, it gets praise from non-Kenshin fans, but hate from Kenshin fans, so I don't know how I'm gonna react), but the manga stands as the best Shounen of all time in my opinion.Kamiccolo9 wrote:Kenshin is pretty good, discounting the later filler. Anyway, the purpose of that little comment of mine, before we get a bit more off-topic, was to say that every series has bad writing, no series is perfect.
Re: Biggest exageration by fans?
I haven't watched Monster, but I've heard good things. I agree that as far as recent mainstream Shounen goes, FMA Brotherhood was written extremely well. It hasn't gotten a long anime adaptation yet (it does have a short series and a few movies that are pretty good), but I think the manga series Berserk was excellent early on. Like HunterxHunter, new chapters are few and far between these days though.Doctor. wrote:Monster is as close to perfection when it comes to anime as you're gonna get. You may have a point about getting off topic though, haha. Yeah, there are examples of bad writing in most stories, and long stories tend to suffer the most.

The dub of Monster was really bad, right? Cause I think I watched an episode of that in Syfy many years ago. lol. I need to check out the original.Doctor. wrote:Monster is as close to perfection when it comes to anime as you're gonna get. Brotherhood is probably my favorite Shonen anime.
On-topic -
DB exaggeration: Bio Broly is the worst atrocity to ever plague the franchise. I mean, it sucks, but it's honestly not that much worse than a lot of the other DBZ movies. My only gripe is the fact that Broly's clone is the villain. Bio Broly could just be a random bio warrior, and the movie wouldn't be any different.

I know, but the original question by fadeddreams5 referred to anime in general. I didn't make my post clear enough though, it does make it seem like I was still referring to shonen. When mentioning Berserk, I meant to lump it in with anime/manga as a whole. Again, that was on me, but I did not intend to imply that Berserk is shonen, because it most definitely is not.

I agree with this. People give those two too much flack as parents. Like you said, they aren't perfect and have flaws but look how Gohan turned out. That right there should tell you they did a good job raising their son.Lunatic Fringe wrote:Probably Goku and Chi-Chi as "horrible" parents. It's always been my understanding (though I'm not much of a Transformers fan, most of my knowledge is from the movies and stuff my girlfriend tells me, though I have seen Armada) that G1 is kind of debateable on what you'd want to consider it. There have certainly been Transformers series' that were anime though, such as Armada.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Transformers is not anime.

And 'good writing' is something that at least on some level is a matter of opinion - what one person considers good writing is not always going to be what another person considers it. To bring this back to Dragon Ball, I guess I'd say it has...'adequate' to 'pretty good' writing. It's enjoyable - heck, I'm here aren't I? - which is what matters the most at the end of the day to me, but I'm under no delusions that it's the most seamlessly written story I've ever enjoyed either.

Well said, but I feel dragonball is a mix of good writing and bad. One could say poorly written but executed so damn well from ball-gt and the films and ovas before bog and yo son goku.

No need to be so hostile. I just felt it merited mentioning since just because you wouldn't find SAO to have good writing, doesn't mean someone else couldn't. I don't have a horse in the race either way, so to speak, as I haven't seen that series yet.

Try it,it's good. But I say stop after season 1. Season 2 made some bad choices IMO. Anyway I think super buu is over exaggerated in terms of power.
