Seriously, fuck off.
Someone will state a logical argument, and you'll act like they puked and drew their face in it. Either this is an intentional attack, or you are illiterate.
My 'fallible fallacy' is not a fallacy. It's 'logic'. I can't even begin to fathom where you come off saying otherwise.
That's great example, actually. Human beings are not infallible, therefore, if someone says something it can't be taken as true unless there's some proof to back it up. If someone says something and you believe them, just because they're your friend, you don't actually have any reason to believe them - you "just do". That doesn't make you, or them, right - it makes you stupid.Human beings are fallible. Does that mean you never trusted anybody about anything and never will?
Now, databooks are supposed to provide reliable information. So if an official databook tells me that Tenshinhan has alien ancestry, I'll consider it "true unless proven false".
Now, let's go back to books. If a book says something is true, and the only reason to believe it is 'the book said so' - then you don't actually have any reason to believe it. You can just assume that it's right, but that wouldn't make you, or them, right - it would make you stupid.
If a book is infallible, then everything in it is true. If the book is not infallible, than everything in it could be wrong and can only be taken as as true as the ramblings of a hobo. This means there is a need for "evidence". Even if something in the book is true, and noone can provide any
Believing something, even if it turns out to be true, without evidence is sheer lunacy.
And stop saying "sleight of hand". Whatever you think it means, it doesn't. Either you're doing it to distract from the actual argument, or you're just ignorant. If you're going to try and say I'm using a logical fallacy, at least pick one that exists.
You do this a lot. You say my argument is moot because I don't know something for certain. Then you try and prove that the opposite is true because of that. In fact, you have no way of knowing for certain either, yet that doesn't seem to deter you.Yeah, that's great. Or it would be if you knew for a fact that Tenshinhan's alien ancestry was made up by someone else than Toriyama. But since you don't, that's a moot point. Sorry!
Again, you don't know for sure that Toriyama didn't come up with that one anyway, so... MOOT.
It's true that there's no way of knowing whether or not this information came from Toriyama or not, thus, the whole point is moot. You cannot argue for or against Ten being an alien with it. "Toriyama might have written it" or "He might not have written it".
Of course, the fact that most of the daizenshuu are not written by Toriyama, and the fact that it would be very out-of-character for him to not mention an alien heritage in the manga (that is, it would be different from his normal writing style) would lead me to believe that this piece of information was not from Toriyama - but hey, that's just me.
And I could say that Shakespeare wrote his plays in Greek, and his sonnets were originally very specific about who and what they were talking about. Of course, by looking at examples of the text and examining his work and writing notes, we can see that those claims are, in fact, false.I could just claim that I know more than you do about his writing style, and that you're mistaken. And that's why you don't play that card.
Do you know how we do this? We can see a pattern in his writing -this is his 'writing style'. We use external sources to find out information about something. Here, it's a person's writing style.
I say that Toriyama's writing style included expunging alien origins. I say this, but I also back it up with reasoning and example. Every other character that was an alien has that fact made clear. Toriyama didn't go out of his way to hide that a character was an alien. Again, that's just me, backing up what I say with logic and examples - just some weird thing I do.
Let's just recap the argument points, shall we?
Daizenshuu 7 says Ten is an alien (specifically the "three eyed tribe"). This information is repeated in DBZ Sparking!.
But, this is a book written by people other than the authour. And Toriyama usually (read: every time other than this) makes it very clear when an character is an alien. This slight mention of alien heritage would go against Toriyama's writing style.
Ten's third eye and strange techniques are never explained to be non-alien.
But, the third eye can be traced back to the 'Journey to the West' character "Erlang Shen" (three eyed demon, fought with Wukong), furthermore, other characters have strange physical traits and are not said to be anything other than human (ie: Krillin, Choatzu). And having strange abilities does not mean he's an alien, lots of characters have weird abilities.
Are there any other points I've missed? Or is this it?
