Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

I'd be really interested to read your thoughts on the animation after you see the film, Jacob. It's pretty blandly boarded for the most part, as you've rightly pointed out in the past. That said there are some absolutely stellar bits of animation.
I shall definitely give it a postin' once I've seen the film. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the e-conte (storyboard) credits, too, just to see how much of the film Yamamuro himself storyboarded. If there is one thing I've seemed to notice with Yamamuro is that his storyboards are very much stuck in the same mindset of what we might have seen on the first three TV series in the 1990s, rather than expanding beyond that. Yamamuro doesn't really have an exciting voice that gives his works a flavorful voice like a Hatano Morio, Ootsuka Takashi storyboard, Nagamine Tatsuya storyboard or Yama'uchi Shigeyasu storyboard. It's kind of funny to think that despite working with Yama'uchi Shigeyasu's storyboard for Dragon Ball Z Episode #232 Yamamuro hasn't really learned to develop his own voice.
That preview clip of Gokuu fighting Freeza is speculated to be the work of Morimune Hiroki, by the way.

So he got impatient after watching a bit, or did he literally give them 10 seconds to handle everyone?
He was askinf where Goku was and then the z-fighters that were present said he's not here and then he goes "fine I shall wait for 10 seconds , after that I shall deal with you" something like that but he definetly gave them a "juu byo" limit.
So either they beat them all in 10 seconds...or Freeza still has a shitty grasp on time
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Doctor. wrote:I've explained before, I'll just paraphrase myself.
Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.

I bet one of the most important functions he had installed as a cyborg was a clock. Too bad he didn't keep it.

Maybe Freeza's home planet has a different time frame.
Huh! Look at that spine! A partial image of Toriyama... I can't remember, was there a slim booklet like this for Battle of Gods? If so, is there a bit of that image on there too?? If so we'd need at least one more movie booklet to complete the image.......................................................

No there isn't, but I would love if they went back and made one for Battle of Gods.

TheDevilsCorpse wrote:To me, Freeza won the war, but Vegeta won battle. Other than taking the drastic action of destroying the planet, there was nothing Freeza could do to defeat Vegeta if the fight had continue on proper. Freeza was on his knees and lost his shiny new transformation. The "fight" was over. This situation amounts to nothing more than when two people play a game like chess, and when one player has the other in checkmate, the loser flips the table in a rage quit moment (or equate it to someone turning off the game on Xenoverse when they lose a fight). I wouldn't call that a "win". At best, it's a tie, draw, no contest, whatever.
I see it as Freeza simply using his trump card. Blowing up Earth was a backup plan just like Sorbet's ring was a backup plan. It was just a costly last-resort one, since he'd be losing his spaceship as well as taking damage himself.
The fight between Vegeta and Freeza was no more over than Piccolo and Goku's 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai fight was over when Goku had a hole blasted through him. A fight isn't over until someone's unconscious, dead, has sincerely forfeited, or is in a condition in which they can no longer take action of any kind. Freeza was none of those. Him blowing up the planet IS part of the fight - he's just using the environment as a weapon.
I feel like Toei is playing favorites now since they removed some cool parts from Goku that was shown in the manga
-Goku almost landing a hit on Whis with his red God mode as a background
-Goku launching a giant kamehame ha as shown on chapter 3

Extended edition coning soon?
I was waiting for that surprise gigantic kamehame ha but was left sad.... and dont get me started on the almost landing a hit on Whis with the red God mode as a background, that was epic. Hope they do make an extended ver and actually put in what happens in the manga.
Seems like those might be two of the things Julian said was in the Volume F script and Toyotaro's manga adaptation, but not the final film. I was curious about what all he might be talking about, but I'm sure it will get covered on the site when he has time.

Forgot to mention even the part where Freeza remembers his fight with Goku ssj1 on Namek was not included, actually a lot of scenes in the manga were not included, and almost all of them were Goku's scenes.
Favorite Character: Vegeta Seconds favorites caracteres:Goku , Piccolo Previously I like: Kid Gohan I do not like: Adult Gohan I hope more: Trunks and Goten I claim for: A girlfriend and a happy life for Yamcha. Women SSJ Hate: Send all women to take care of children, including A18. Need more of: Ten Sin Han
Browsing through them with Google Translate, it seems as though the people reviewing the film at the link were either expecting another Battle of Gods type of film or are only worried about the battle powers.

SansrivaaL wrote:Oh btw guys the blue God aura had some sparks, its slightly different from Goku's red God mode. Also yeah their interactions with each other was funny, AT sama still has it. I'm sure a lot of you will find it funny. No suspense but yeah the animations were good, easily surpasses BoG.
How did you find the cgi? And did you watch it in 3D?
You know, I've gotta say, I find it pretty funny how a lot of people wrote the production side of this thing off based on the fact that Yamamuro was directing and that, apparently, there were no big hitters jumping out to announce their involvement on the animation side of things. Seriously, you can literally find pages upon pages in this very topic of people saying things along the lines of 'This is turning into a disaster', without, of course, having actually seen the finished product, or having any real insight into how this thing was being put together.
I know that hindsight is 20/20, I really do, but if there's anything to learn from this, it's that getting yourself worked up over armchair crystal-gazing without knowing all the facts does nobody any good.

Well, my trip to Japan in July is now confirmed 100%. If anyone has any recommendations on places to go once I'm there, some PMs would be greatly appreciated. I hear the various daytrips on offer are great, but I'm not too sure on where's best prioritise.
However, I'm considering taking a weekend flight out there in the next two weeks to see the film and get a taste of the country as I can't imagine it'll still be in theatres by the time July rolls around.
I'll fly out on a Friday, return on a Monday, I think. I'm planning to just wander around Akihabara while I wait for the film's showing, but is there anything else that I could do that isn't too time consuming?
