Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

Okay, I've been reading the past pages and discussions and I'm going to throw some of my opinions.

First off, who was keeping the balance of good and evil whilst good ol' Bill was sleeping? Well, probably Freeza, and that's why his death is mentioned. Freeza had been keeping the universe in check via tyrannical rule. In the great scale of things maybe this was for the best. There was a race of super warriors rampaging about, he recruited them and later extinguished them. If that's not keeping the balance and keeping things in check, I don't know what is. I'm not saying that Freeza worked for the gods, I'm saying that the gods let Freeza do his thing because he kept things in check. Now with Freeza dead the universe must be overflowing with life and new races and species because no one is keeping all this in check. Basically, too much good. This is my theory at least.

Secondly, the discussion of powerful beings beyond Buu is ridiculous, just stop it. There are plenty reasons why some beings could be more powerful. This goes on to the third point which is Rilld.

Now Rilld was an alien. He was probably already a very powerful alien since Dr. Mu proposed to turn him into a Machine Mutant and make him leader of M2. If you can accept that the Artificial Humans can be stronger than Freeza, why can't you accept the Machine Mutants as being stronger than Buu? Especially since it's alien bio-technology. Furthermore, as was pointed out, Mu was keeping a watch on the entire galaxy, he probably knew about Buu. Rilld is not only the most powerful Machine Mutant, in his final form he is the entire planet M2. Can you honestly not believe that a guy who has the power of an entire Machine Mutant planet is more powerful than Buu?

Lastly, is the main guy a bad guy? Well, we'll see. Yi Xing Long was considered a bad guy but really, was he? The way I see it he was kind of like an entity of balance simply performing it's task. In a way he was truly neutral. Bils probably is too.

By the way, if Dabra's title was King of the Demon Realm (Makaio), could that mean that he was THE Makaio all this time and we've never noticed? Kaios are vastly different from Kaioshins, even though they're born from the same tree. That could mean that Makaios and Makaioshins can be vastly different too. Also, it wasn't stated that there are cardinal Makaios and Makaioshins, especially since Makai is so small compared to the rest of the cosmos. I could easily see just one Makaio and one Makaioshin supervising all that.

With the pantheon and hierarchy of gods expanding maybe these questions will be answered.

Lastly, is the main guy a bad guy? Well, we'll see. Yi Xing Long was considered a bad guy but really, was he? The way I see it he was kind of like an entity of balance simply performing it's task. In a way he was truly neutral. Bils probably is too.

An interesting point about Yi Xing Long, while his methods were sinister and coldhearted (killing Siu Xing Long from the back with no remorse), when he first meets Goku and introduces himself he doesn't come off as "I'm being a bad guy just to be a bad guy," but more as "I'm doing this because you humans don't know how to keep a good thing from going bad. You brought this on yourself." It's only when he becomes Super Yi Xing Long that his mindset becomes totally focused on the destruction of everything.

This B*s guy seems to be in for the thrill of the fight, kinda like Perfect Cell; not necessarily "Let me blow up the Earth just because."

By the way, if Dabra's title was King of the Demon Realm (Makaio)

To be super-duper picky, I'm pretty sure Dabra is never called "Makaiou", in the series at least (I don't think he is in guides either, but I'm less sure). Rather, his title is "Ankoku-Makai no Ou" (King of the Dark Demon Realm) or Akumakai no Ou (King of the Devil Realm). So in other words it's never a single big compound word (that, and the Demon World's name changes ever flippin' time it's mentioned). Means the same thing as "Makaiou" of course, but it could be like "Sekaio no Ou" versus "Kaiou". Both basically mean "world king", but the former is one of the terms used to refer to the king of DB Earth, while the latter of course refers to the catfish guy and his colleagues.

Overall I tend towards the view that if Toriyama had Dabra in mind when discussing the Makaio/shin in the Super Exciting Guide, he would have just said so. The fact that he doesn't mention him suggests the Makaio/shin are supposed to be an entirely new concept despite the similair name and/or he's just totally forgotten about Dabra; either way Dabra probably isn't involved. But hopefully we'll get some more concrete information before too long.

Listening to some of the music pieces the composer for BOG (Norihito Sumitomo) has done in the past; most of what I've listened to so far is kind of sad/emotional-tension stuff and makes me kind of wonder why he was chosen for DB13's project. Maybe there is something sad and emotional/tension that happens in the movie? I dunno.

EDIT: Listened to more tracks, there's slow and mid-speed suspense music in here too. The further in I go, the heavier of a feel I get (more weighted?) from this composer.
I'm curious now about what sort of drama/character-development/introspection might happen to Goku in BOG.

Unfortunately, we don't actually know quite yet whether FUNimation even has anything to do with the movie. The image you posted is a fake, thrown together by a Spanish Facebook group. For some reason, the Spaniards have had multiple groups throwing out some odd stuff lately; made-up DVD/Blu-ray release dates, Photoshopped images, etc.

For some reason, the Spaniards have had multiple groups throwing out some odd stuff lately; made-up DVD/Blu-ray release dates, Photoshopped images, etc.

Bummer. The update to the site missing an English version combined with a list of Japanese only theaters makes me think that if there was a chance for a release outside Japan, there isn't anymore. I hope I am wrong though. I'd love to see it at least in a limited release subtitled.

It looks like they're calling themselves "official" and editing the Japanese source material so it says something else. They make it look like they have a sketch of Bils on their site, but I think it's just the poster image photoshopped with an effect/overlay or something on it.

Unfortunately, some people are really good with image and video editing. But yes, both the video, the images, and whatever else are all faked. The Facebook page is real, although not "official" in any capacity, as it's run by fans. But don't feel too bad, it's the internet. The land where it's okay to just make shit up, pass stuff off as your own, make your cat dance on YouTube for absolutely no damn reason, etc. What a beautiful age we live in...

I dunno, I think there's a good chance of it being screened as part of a film festival or something. A Berserk movie (I know absolutely nothing about Berserk) is being screened in theatres here as part of a thing called 'Anime Reel'.

If Funimation was dubbing it then they would say something by now. Battle of Gods is likely not going to be release in the US for a while. I guess Fox and Funi will help screen the movie in 2014 then release it on home video around the holiday season later that year.

You all are so lucky in the US. At least you'll get it dubbed. Here in Germany, for instance, they stopped caring about Dragon Ball a long time ago. Even the voice actors have become sick of it ;_;
