A crappy action movie with none of the humour or charm of the manga?

Man, am I the only one who actually likes the Red Ribbon Army?
No, I like it quite a lot. But it certainly wouldn't have any place in the kind of movie they're trying to make. A lot of the Red Ribbon stuff was still Toriyama just making gags. The serious martial arts portion of the series didn't really start until the Piccolo stuff.
I have to disagree. The first serious fight is Goku and Tao.

Jeez, at least give the movie a chance to come out before you start with the bashing.

I give this film as much of a chance as any other film: does the information I have regarding it give me any hope for a good movie? Do the principle actors have a good track record for this type of film? Does the director? The rest of the crew?

From the information we have so far, it looks about as good as Hotel For Dogs.

I mean, it could be good - but that would be in spite of everything we've heard.

But Nickelodeon's always had pretty entertaining movies in my opinion.
Well, a lot better than the crap Disney's been throwing out since the 90s ended.

Not counting Pixar, I agree. Seems a bit like apples and oranges to compare to Dragon Ball, what with an Akira movie starring Leo Dicaprio as Kaneda coming out. GI Joe looks like it would make decent fodder as well (and if Chris Eccleston doesn't put Destro's mask on, it's no sale for me, damnit).
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

I'm always up for being surprised - Kung Fu panda seems to have no redeeming qualities, but is actually pretty good.

Why do they gotta mess with Akira? There's ALREADY a film based on the manga! And that one is directed by the original author. Does Hollywood think they can do a better job than Otomo, really? Urgggh.

I really dug that flick, in spite of the overuse of celebrity voices. But I was looking forward to it for awhile.

Well, in that regard, there are 17 films and 3 TV shows based off of Dragonball. Why does Hollywood have to mess with that?

Its just a joke. Get away from the fucking keyboard.

They don't think they can do a better job - they think they can do enough to make money off of it.

I think I finally understand what everyone's worries are after seeing tons of comments ranging from one aspect to another. Basically FUNi is not funny enough. Aside from pronunciations they turn everything into a battle scene and ignore the charm of Dragon Ball's consistent humour.

Someone mentioned FUNi is not making the movie, I would argue studios are doing this with some degree of association with FUNi and the threat of this turning into an hour Matrix action scene with Piccolo and Psuedo Saiya Jin Goku is pretty much on the mark with a believeable reason to assume it.

My biggest hope is that they do something that Michael Bay did with Transformers and present ideas that are leaked to the public early so they can see how people are reacting. Until the movie is a few months from being put on the screen no one else is going to care so they had better make sure their 'nerd' following (aka us) are happy with the develiopments.Myabe the mock up poster is really just to guage feedback on the over all appearance, and the story being leaked how people are feeling about it.

The Akira movie will be way more awesome than the Dragonball one. I really want to see THAT movie, and I can say that if it does worse than Dragonball I will eat my hat and my underwear. Only if and if the movie is worse will I never judge another movie based off a comic book/anime movie. I like Akira and I like Dragonball but I like Akira too. Whatever.
PS: To all the people who think that I am pissing nails and full of fearmongering rabble-rousing agiprop, I have to say this. I was hoping that the movie would be a good movie or at least not pukeworthy. Not Exorcist puke worthy or any kind of pukeworthy. I can't see this as being anything but a popcorn movie. Sorry guys, I don't have much hope for this movie.

For all of you who are interested, here is a collection of what seems to be all of the pictures that have been taken from the live action movie. I'll post some of the more interesting ones as soon as I get back from vacation, but for now you can just look through them all: http://bulmanl2.bu.funpic.de/?img=Live%20Action/

Dude, sweet.

Wait, first Matrix or no? Cause if it's like the building shootout sequence in the first one, then I will be a happy man.

I hope that you're right. If you are, then I should hpe that the next poster will inolve a blue-haired Bulma and a Son Goku who has a smile or an ultra-determined look on his face.

This was very much the fault of a shithead named Michal Eisner who tried running the company into the ground for a quick profit once he had sole control of the company, until the shareholders got sick of him and kicked him the hell out. Now, John Lasseter is in charge- someone who legitimately cares about animation and wants to make things work again.

As for the movie, well..... Son. Wow. Terrible. Movie in general... I'm still leaning toward might-not-suck. What we really need is some freaking official information outside a one-page-ad in Shonen Jump.

I've been thinking. What are the chances of us getting (a remixed version of?) Makafushigi Adventure in the movie somewhere? Even in the credits? I know they did the same with Speed Racer.

I still can't believe that a movie that won't be ready for almost a year now was planned to be out a couple of months ago

I personally can't wait for the movie, I'm bringing a bunch of DBZ loving friends and it will be hilarious, chances are we'll be thrown out due to laughing at inappropriate times.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight
