How strong is Mr.Popo

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Are you serious? Super Saiyans? Really? Damn, Toei! No matter how we look at things, Popo has to be weaker than Saiyan-saga Vegeta, otherwise he would have helped out.
I don't think that Popo is allowed to kill anyone.
Fair enough, but if he's as strong as a super saiyan, he should be able to stop Vegeta and Nappa from destroying the world without having to kill them. Hell, he could literally just grab each of them by the arm and physically hold them in place until they promise to leave and never come back.
Kami: "It would not do for any man to begin saying, 'Well, if things get bad, God will fix it.' In the end, Earthlings must depend on their own powers to find their way through. Even the dragon balls make you prove yourself for your one miracle."

I guess Popo is also bound by this logic.

Edit: That line's from volume 14 of the manga.

Kami was smart about it, though. He would've just been killing himself in the process, since there's no reason to think he would rip through Daimao like Goku did, which prompted him to spit out an egg. He might've just took him out with a Chi-blast.

I mean, Popo did say Kami had his reasons for not beating Daimao for them. As for the topic: I think Popo would be stronger then Goku after being powered-up from the water, but weaker then weighted Goku from the 23rd Budokai. Krillin looked like he couldn't get a punch on Popo, so we know he's above 206, at least.

If God solved all your problems, you'd never learn for yourself and grow to your full potential. And I'm talking about more than just physical strength/power, of course.

Popo does tell Goku that Kami is stronger than him (or at least greater than him).

I think Mr. Popo has a power level of 280, probably. After all, he was able to whoop Goku's ass and Goku said that his punches hurt more than Piccolo's (although that's in the anime, not sure about the manga). Kami's 300 though.

Generally speaking, being a Super Saiyajin is not holding back. If you suppress your power as a Super Saiyajin, wouldn't you just...not be a Super Saiyajin any more?

Edit: 'Full Power' Goku and Gohan might be the exception there, but in another filler that didn't stop them breaking everything in the house.

If that's the case, wouldn't it just help show that Super Saiyans could take Popo on? 23rd Budokai Goku was stronger than Kami.

Um... nope. They were Super Saiyans. And they were children. And they were in a panic. My impression of that scene was that they lashed out in an attempt to escape, and Mr. Popo non-violently held them off until they could be reasoned with. I do not at all think they were approaching the situation with restraint or tactics in mind.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

That was my point, actually. Popo is weaker than Kami, and Kami would be no match for a Super Saiyan. There shouldn't be any mystery about Popo's strength.

I always liked to think that Mr. Popo's strength was magically adjusted to match whomever he was fighting at the time, and his superiour tactice would help him win overall. It would be very usefull for training, wouldn't it, to have someone who's exactly as strong as you, but with much better skill.

Nice idea.

However that would mean that mr. popo is stronger than anyone in the universe because he can always be as strong as his adversary but with better skill. Which of course doesn`t work very nicely story-wise.

Yeah, it doesn't really work, but it's a nice thought. Which leave me with a tough question...just how DID he hold back Goten and Trunks? Perhaps he's gotten a LOT stronger since Piccolo...

And don't say it's just filler. I have to justify all these little things, for no other reason than to entertain myself.

Edit: 100th post! YAY!

I've been here for a few years now, and I'm just now getting this high. How on earth do people make thousands?

Talk about hard mode.

I have absolutely no answer for you. It makes about as much sense as most of GT does.

Edit: Actually, it makes less sense than those bizarre parts of GT.

If something didn't make sense in one of the video games, wouldn't it be okay to just brush it off and say "it's just a video game"? If so, what makes the anime filler so different?

I suppose you could just say that he's really, really good at blocking.

Maybe he has a secret ability that allows him to obsorb large amounts of energy (even energy from punches) or at least neutralize it with his body (just as he did with goku`s kamehameha using his mouth), as long as the blows aren`t powerfull enough or fast enough or skilled enough to beat that technique.

One would think that punches from a super sayan would be beyond that techique since they are so strong, but maybe the kids weren`t skilled enough to maximize the impact of their blows since they are kids. Mr. popo is a master of skill and with that ability to absorb/neutralize, maybe he would be able to hold off the worst of it for a few seconds.

That`s the only semi sane theory I can think off that would perhaps explain that filler scene.

The anime makes no sense at all sometimes.

In the opening of the Buu Saga portion, it shows Super Sayajin Goten and Trunks fighting, then Chi Chi grabs Goten and Bulma grabs Trunks. Chi Chi and Bulma exchange friendly talk and then walk away (I think). During that time, Goten and Trunks wiggle, shake and kick, but Chi Chi and Bulma don't let go. In fact, they act like nothing's happening.

Are we going to debate that Chi Chi and Bulma are stronger than Goten and Trunks? I didn't think so.
