Do you all really know exactly how the Cell Games were supposed to look in the manga? Because looking at the pages, it seems like grass rather than dirt to me. And ESF tends to base things on the manga, while having some semi-realistic stuff added as well in some cases.

I find it funny that after seeing the ESF video you can still talk about ZEQ2 Lite as if it's "doing a good job as well", while actually it's nowhere near as good. Unless you're some sort of dev/fan of it?

EDIT: regarding the dirt around arena:

It probably wasn't implemented at the time the video was being made.

Well you seem... biased.

You don't have to defend esf so ferociously. We're just discussing here, isn't that the point?

How's that ferocious? I simply noted that the argument about there being too much grass and not enough dirt may very well be invalid as long as ESF is basing the map on the manga. Interestingly, we have the "too much green" joke on ESF forums, however it's only a joke there and in no way implies that the Cell Games map is in any way incorrect.

About the comparison between ESF and ZEQ2L, I simply remembered ZEQ2L's broken gameplay back in the day, which doesn't seem to be a lot better today. Graphics didn't improve either.

You do realize there are some color pages during the latter half of the Cell Games, right? Its about a 70/30 dirt to grass ratio, in most pictures, and full desert in the others.

IMO, its most likely a slight location shift, like when Cell left the ring to avoid having the army blow it up, since we never really see the hole from when Cell blows up his arena afterward. It's a rather simple, and logical assumption that they move their battle away from the previous location, just a little bit, to a part of the map where the grass begins transitioning into dirt, and the rest is a matter of ki attacks and power-ups. So, less green...

PS-If they are trying to base their game more on the manga, they need to recolor Trunks.

I do. There ain't no color pages portraying the environment of the Cell Games before the battle happened, though.
Somehow, in non-colored pages, it really seems like grass to me. However when they move away from there, it seems more of a dirty/rocky place.
It's anyone's guess how it's really supposed to look. So the ESF team didn't necessary made some sort of a mistake, although it would've been better to stay consistent with the pages that were colored, even if it's a different place.

Isn't Trunks' hair purple like in the manga here?

James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.

Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.

I think a more important question is, do you really need another wasteland background considering where half the damn battles in the series seem to take place? :P The grass is much more pleasing to the eye.

(Incidentally, both Super Butouden 1 and 2 have a "destroyed Cell Games arena" stage that's pretty grassy)

I never said it was the hair they needed to recolor. If they want to match the actual manga, they need to change the outfit and sword. Toriyama does indeed have Trunks wear those colors, but not the specific combination in a single image. The only time I think he even comes close is the Chapter 337 title page, but Trunks doesn't wear his jacket. In the images that have him with a dark jacket, he has different colored sword sheath and stuff, or its in promotional material not for the manga itself. They should have just gone with something closer to Super DBZ:

I'm not saying turn the whole damn stage into a desert, just add some more dirt splotches to the outer rim of one side of the stage. lol The maps are fairly big, and this allows them to break up the overwhelming amount of green and allow a little better representation of what we're shown in the series, as the Cell battle does take place in both a grassy area with the ring, and an obviously less grassy area away from where the ring once was.

Oh. Yeah, that makes more sense. At first, I thought you meant only having a patch of grass around the ring.

I used to play the hell out of this game back whenever I could in some LAN parties.

Does this game have any online servers that are currently still operational?

Future Trunks vs SSJ2 Majin Vegeta.

They seem to have forgotten Majin Vegeta's popped veins, I'm still waiting for a reply if they're gonna add them or not.

I like the speedlines.

And also they seem to be going for a hyperdimension vibe with this early morning lookout. Which looks nice.

ESForces.com wrote:For the past few weeks Ryokeen has been hard at work adding and optimizing shaders for ESF. One of the latest additions is a wave generator. The new shader gives ESF environment artists the option to add ocean like water to maps.

During initial tests the ocean shader has shown a performance increase over the older "flat" water shader. The system uses a grid of approximately 50K polygons to generate the waves. This can be reduced to meet the performance requirements of lower-end machines. Also, the system implements a level of detail system that increases the amount of detail a player sees the closer they get to the water.

So, anyone with Half Life on Steam to get this running? Would be awesome if all of us played a match.
