Case-in-point, Anime Labs.

I like the use of damn, hell (not the place), bastard, crap, piss and shit in Kai. It feels more natural and realistic for the situation. I also liked Vegeta's non-PC "spastic", and hope they stick with "retard" for Gohan in the Buu arc. However, I don't think the addition of "fuck" or "cunt" would help anything at all. They aren't used in the Japanese version so the tone would be unfaithful, and they can't convey anything that those milder words can't. Non-PC terms like "retard" are great for having the same shocking effect as "cunt". The Tucker-esque lines are best left to Abridged.

I wish they used more swear words other than damn, hell, and bastard. It just feels forced the way it is. Hell, Yamcha even called #18 a "bastard" and I'm thinking he should have called her a 'bitch' (YYH could do it why not Kai?). Clearly, they're heading for the edgy factor so why not take it a little step further?

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I don't think that the whole "realistic dialogue" argument has any merit, otherwise characters would be dropping f-bombs left and right.

Well, yeah. I think, for example, a realistic Vegeta may very well be all "Fuck you Kakarot, you stupid, cock-sucking cunt", but you can have pretty much the same effect with lesser swear words. With words like "crap" and "bastard", you can get 80% of the realistic feel while the words are only 30% as "bad", and don't really shock anyone out of their DBZ-watching stupor.

Realistic doesn't mean every character or even evil character would be dropping F-Bombs.

When does Yamcha call Eighteen a bastard? And I agree with ABED, no need to overuse profanity.

When #18 coldly shuts Kuririn down despite saving her life.

I'll take Damn and Bastard. Seeing as there is a lot of scenes where bastard fitted perfectly. Such as Goku turning SSJ. Didn't Gohan(Kid) swear in JPN? You think Collen's Gohan would sound good swearing? Or is that over doingit?

I still remember being a tad (just a tad, but yes, a tad) bummed when Goku killed Freeza and he still shouted, "YOU FOOL!" instead of "YOU STUPID BASTARD!" like he did in the subs. I was really looking forward to hearing Schemmel deliver that line.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I can understand that change for the Nicktoons/CW4Kids/Vortexx-edited versions, but I was a tad bummed when I saw it was the same in the uncut version. Especially considering that Goku did say the word "bastard" earlier in the uncut dub.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

I think the dub is way too weak when it comes to profanity. Crap is way too weak. I've heard crap in Hey Arnold several times. Damn is such a weak word, that it is not even profanity anymore. The edited dub of Yu Yu Hakusho used damn on Toonami, with zero complaints. Bastard isn't strong either. The dub should be using more shits and f-bombs. If someone realistically got punched into mountains, they wouldn't be like "Oh damn" or "Oh crap" they would be like, "Shit"" and "Fuck." Stronger words like asshole, fuck, shit, etc need to be used.

I definitely remember that not being the case. I remember after it was edited they replaced things like "crappy" to "crummy". I'm pretty damn sure damn will still get you in trouble at school too.

Also, you seriously think they should say "fuck"? It's a show aimed at 10 year olds... I think it's become an annoying word since kids at school wouldn't stop saying it all the damn time, thinking it made them "more mature". Kai's dub would come off the same way.

Maybe "Damn" is considered a swear word in American because of its association with "God damn you", so it's probably more blashphemy than an actual swear word, which I think gets the US audience in a tizz?

The original Planet of the Apes almost got a higher rating because of the "god damn you all to hell" scream at the end. The film makers had to explain he wasn't damning god, but asking God to damn those who blew the planet up.

No, it's the "god" part that bothers censors and prudes. In fact if someone says God damn on a live show, "god" is often bleeped out.

It was used in the subs in an early episode of Original Dragon Ball, but then again the use of bad language in those subs was thought to be a bit questionable.

What about "Cunt"? That sounds some Deadman Wonderland type of swear. I think Kai uncut is just fine with the swear words. I hate when cartoons overuse swear words just to try and be funny.

This isn't limited to cartoons. I'm not a big fan of shows using copious amounts of cuss words.

While that would have been amazing, "You Fool" strikes me as the more "poetic" and tonal response, in what- paradox abound- might have been the most meta and self-aware time in Goku's life.

A series doesn't need swear words implemented/added to it if it never had them in the first place. It would really take me out of the experience if a series that had never had swear words (especially of the more absence nature) started to use them every which way.

Same. Utilizing obscenities rarely works or is needed in almost any medium, let alone DB.
