Thus, I find the apparent amazement over the "early release" for movie 13 to be a little... odd.
I suppose the announcement isn't "odd" in the sense that the timing for this release is completely unexpected, but with the much-hyped
Fusion Reborn on the shelves at long last, I'd have guessed that FUNimation would wait until at least the end of the year . . . (perhaps filling the void between now and then with the re-release of
The World's Strongest, as
VegettoEX mentioned) . . . before bringing out movie 13.
Hell, we didn't hear anything of a release date or even see cover art for
Fusion Reborn until late December . . . nearly
four months after the release of
Bio-Broly. Compare that to the fact that we've been outright spoiled with news of a release date for the thirteenth DBZ movie less than a month after
Fusion Reborn appeared, and we see quite a difference! The movie itself might not be arriving as early as all that, but the news of
when it'll arrive sure has . . . and maybe that's a contributing factor to the whole feeling of "early".
News of the release aside, the actual date does still feel early to me. Why? Well, I suppose it doesn't really look all that strange when you take
Tsukento's pattern of releases into account . . . but considering that I think FUNimation could have made us wait so much longer for the absolute last of the DBZ movies (which probably will be the last "gotta have" DBZ
anything that every one of us is sure to buy), the strategy feels just a little off and rather unFUNimation-like to me.
Not that I really care to discern the reasoning behind this, that or the other thing . . . because early or not, I'm delighted.
