Do any of the characters get new moves not seen in the arcades for this PS2 home release? I'm kinda wondering since it would make sense, kinda like what they did for VF 4 Evo.

Uh-oh! Remember back then when Atari had a poll on its forum to let the users vote for the preliminary sketches of Super DragonBall Z's cover? Those were nothing compared to your [Nyoibo's] screenshot. Atari's messing with the covers again. (Oh boy, the cover of Shin Budokai, yikes!).

Yay! More man-porn to look forward to.

Has anyone here actually played this in the arcade yet?

I have no idea. There's gotta be. I am secretly hoping it will be a traditional SF2 mode. Fight 10-12 characters, fight a nemesis, then see a SF2-like ending (like DBZ Retsuden for the Genesis).
"Destiny"... people claim by force what they desire, wreak havoc upon others in order to acquire it... and they call it "destiny".

Wouldn't be cool if they came up with an all new villian for the final boss? One created by Toriyama.

I've been saying we need a new Dragonball RPG game with an original storyline - wouldn't everyone like that?

I would, or a new plotline using old villains, say Freeza and Cooler coming to earth to finish off the Saiyans then learn of the DragonBalls or something like that.

That's actually what I'm afraid of happening. All these new DBZ games just recreate the story, weird what-fis, and mash-ups of 'every villan, all at one!'

I not against any of them, but they've been done. I want something new.

Personally I think most of the what if story lines aren't as new as they could be, which is why I'm more interested (at the moment anyway) in seeing a brand new twist on DB than a new villian (though I wouldn't mind that as well).

I mean heck, Super DBZ now has the three main villains, so why not do a what if story where Chi Chi saves the world instead of her husband.

How about a story that has no relationships with the original storyline? By using the same leading characters, they would encounter different villains rather than old villains. But that would be strange for DBZ fans since we fanboys (fangirls) already knew the story near 100%. But it would be perfect for people who had no prior knowledge to the show. What if's are pretty lame lately and not interesting at all, so I think this is the best way to approach this.

If you don't even want that, Desire, maybe they should create a whole new cast and have the events take place in the Dragon World. But that's some heavy script develope.

This type of discussion makes me think of how ironic it is that Sagas gave us the Yardratian character, Soba. Sure, his storyline was the smallest "saga" in the game, but to think that Atari and Avalanche went to the trouble of making an exclusive-to-game character. Hell, that's one of the two only reasons I bought Sagas, just to try out combat on Soba (as well as for the collection reason).

Why is it US made DBZ games are what put the real twists on things? Legacy of Goku II, Buu's Fury, even Sagas with their Soba creation, gives me the impression that Bandai just wants to constantly stick to what Toriyama and Toei came up with. Unfortunately, it seems Super DragonBall Z and most likely the upcoming Sparking NEO won't smarten up with their own original characters/villans (which isn't a bad thing, but after 5 Ps2 games in less than 3 years ... c'mon!). As it looks, Super DBZ is where the game-play is gonna be at, and NEO is gonna be where the over-the-top ambitious character roster will be.

Considering this game may be a direct 'port from the Arcade version with minimal additions, I doubt there's gonna be a real story mode. Maybe survival-type mode with some before-after fight dialogue (shades of Ultimate Battle 22 and the dueling mode in the Budokai games), but other than that, I'm not holding much hope for a story attempt. I won't be disappointed either, as this game wasn't made with a 4 hour story mode in mind, it was made with the mindset of allowing the player to enjoy wide-ranged fighting with a decently thought up roster that's neither too over-the-top nor too short by SNES game standards.

Still can't wait!

There are two types of DBZ groupies.

1) Those who don't want ANYTHING in the game to stray from the canon storyline.

2) Those who do.

Okay, am I the only one who's looking forward to this moreso than the Budokai/Sparking installments? This should rock...

Nope, I'm looking forward to it just as much as you are. I'd rather have a real fighter with Dragon Ball characters, rather than an upgrade to the Budokai system. No offense to fans of Budokai fans, I love the games as well, but it's very, very unbalanced as a fighter, not to mention the fact that there is very little difference from character to character (other than range and priority).

Add me for some HD Remix or SF4.

Well, if you look closely at the Mecha-Freeza pic: here, you can see some slight changes made. For one, he has what looks like a small bomb or a communication device attached to his waist, and his tail has a bunch of spikes on it, as opposed to just a metal version of his already sleek tail. I dunno, maybe it's just me over analyzing details.

EDIT: I just noticed that Freeza has a whole bunch of guns attached to his back (how did I miss that?!), so maybe Toriyama did have some new design in mind for Mecha-Freeza...

I pretty much look foward to this game myself more than Sparking! NEO for reasons stated above.

On a side note, after looking at that Mecha-Freeza pic, I don't think over analyzing DaemonCorps. It looks as if they some things have been re-designed (basically, most of what you mentioned).
