Freeza's Furry brother. They don't talk about him much.
Well... Furza did try to punk on Freeza's woman when he was busy on Namek. Betcha Furza thought he was in deep sh** when King Cold found and rebuilt Freeza....

Mr. Announcer wrote:I can find very little to criticize about the series that doesn't have to do with animation etc since I love it so darn much, but I would have to say the Cell saga was probably the low point of my enthusiasm as well. I suppose it was the whole emphasis on the saiyans on their powerups only that made the story pretty bland. I also found Cell to be a very boring villain once he became perfect, I really liked his imperfect design and personality better, much more sinister and despicable.

And about Gokuh possibly being a weak main character, I don't really think that's the case even though Gohan definitely should have been the focus of the "Z" series. He has more facets than people give him credit for. I found his late DB, early Z personality quite interesting since he had that whole conflict over giving his enemies mercy at the risk of endangering the world in the future, but that kind of went to blah after his transformation when he realizes that people like Freeza never learn their lesson. Also, during the Cell Games, there was his eerie optimism phase which was a strange shift in character for him... Anyway, what I mean to say is, he had some subtle character developments that probably weren't enough to drive such a massive story but kept him interesting enough as a character. I find him to be one of the only anime main characters I really admire, I mean, he like never falters, not even when he figures out that he comes from a race of evil aliens that sent him to destroy life on earth.

As for the Red Ribbon Army arc, I guess we have to remember that DB was still pretty much in its gag phase up until Tao Pai Pai and a solid story wasn't really all that important. Personally, I thought it was fitting for Gokuh to be kicking so much ass at the base considering he had just undergone training from Karin and I was interested to see what he could really do with his power. C'mon, you know it was cool.

I think I just blindly defended the series again when I was supposed to be criticizing it....
I agree; I kinda got tired of the same routine. Everyone trains they asses of for how many years. Supermenace comes, Goku is either dead, sick, somewhere else, whatever, the human Z fighters are a joke, and then Goku comes at the last minute and saves everyone (Gohan did once). Battle after Battle, when something is like that, then it brings crappy story telling.

I missed how it used to be in dragonball. How everything wasn't forseen and it wasn't too sci-fi ish. Sure it had some sci-fi, but it had that mystical asian feeling, y'know fantasy. And it just had better story-telling, with the adventure, rommance, action, humor, the works.

And since it had a lot of humor, you can play around a bit and have characters do strange things, like Kuririn blowing himself up like a ballon. But when you have something as serious as DBZ and you do the same thing, then you actually have to create the laws within the universe, which limits what a character can do. And you you disobey the law, then you'll have fans aguing about it in a Dragonball Z forum o_o;;;

What bothers me the most about dragonball?

The problems with the story first

1 The fucking animal people

2 The fact that Dragonball is more mystical and fantasy yet it has technology that surpasses anything known today.

3 Goku is strongest

The problems with the production of the show

1 The inconsistant animation, and its poor quality in the majority of the episodes.

2 The mindless stare downs that drag on

3 The horrible filler (actually I don't mind the arcs just the filler you cant' skip)

4 Toei calls it Z after 23 Budokai

Considering Toei was going to change it to Z anyway does anyone else think it would be better if it was Dragonball up to the end of the Freeza saga and then have it be called Z for the Cell and Boo arcs? Like the story of Dragonball is done and Z is the continuation which tells the story of the Super Saiyans and the next generation.

What's there to not understand? Everyone here knows the series by heart. We know what's basically going on and what's being said.

Also, that's why we have subtitles. :P

You'd know without the subtitles you have to learn japanese which takes time.

And? The reason people say the Japanese version is better than any of the English dubs is because it is better in every conceivable way.

Firstly, the script itself is written smarter, funnier, and has a much better 'flow'.

Secondly, the voice acting involves just that: acting. Something we won't find from the English dub's performance (despite the fact that the same actors actually do do great work on other dubs).

Finally, the original bgm is so much better I can't even describe it properly.

Yeah, I can't catch more than a dozen words. So what? I can understand what's going on by how it's said (because of the "acting", as I've said before). And, as you know, we can get accurate subtitles too.
