Call me crazy, but in all of the screen shots posted, I have yet to see any evidence of loss of detail. Absolutely none. Maybe the claims "Mr. Bad Conversion Guy" made were true, the Season Sets lack of detail were the result of a bad down conversion.
Yeah, I'm beginning to suspect the same. Still doesn't excuse the cropping though.
I think that the issue is that it's not the same thing to "remaster" a movie as it is to remaster a 291 episode series. The series went on autopilot, while the movies were kept a closer eye on. There's no way a down conversion would take out lines and blend colors in such a way... That just screams "automated DVNR".

I guess we'll know for certain when FUNI releases the series on Blu-Ray, which I'm betting they are likely to do.

The footage from the above shots from the movies looks like FUNI actually made a competent encode. I could probably forgive the widescreen issues (unwillingly) for decent priced high-def from them.

Did anyone notice that the Funi release has more footage on the top, bottom and sides then the dragonbox. I this from Funi having the full screen masters to begin with.

Sweet the movies turned out all right, can't say that for the episodes tho!

Now I'm going to wait till FUNimation releases a boxset with all the movies, (Like the Dragon Box) also with English voices and Japanese BGM, I don't know when that will be, but it's plausible and I can look forward to it.

The movie didn't turn out all right.

It's still blurry as fuck, it's just less noticeable because of the much higher resolution.

The fact that the Dragonbox and Blurays are even reasonably comparable shows that this wasn't done nearly as good as it should have (and I blame Toei just as much as I blame Funi, if Toei gave out decent masters Funi wouldn't have to try and pull their con job to make their masters look half decent)

1080p should be FAR better then 480i/p.

In no way should you even be able to look at them side by side and say the 480 one looks 'good'. It should be blown away just by the 1080 one being next to it.

I watched Live Free or Die Hard last Tuesday in 1080p, it was awesome. I then watched the same movie on Thanksgiving with my grandpa at 480. My eyes were going batshit because of the quality difference. I compared the Dragonbox and the Bluray minutes apart and had to check again to see which was better.

That isn't RIGHT when something is that much higher in resolution.

I don't see any differences in any of these pictures that warrents the cost of anything above a regular DVD player and a tube television.

I think some of you guys are taking this a little too seriously.

Dude, you're either part of the problem or part of the solution.

So... if there are no real problems with detail loss and the line-saturation-thingy, then I guess the only problem is the color. Yay.

Oh there's detail loss, you can see it in the Vegeta image in the first post. It's not as bad as we've seen before, but it's still bad.

And others have said it's still blurry as well.

Look at the screen shot from the original FUNimation release right next to it. The same exact missing lines are there too. Its just harder to see because its so blurry.

I don't really know much about the Season Sets, and my earlier post was just very hopeful thinking, but at least when it comes to this release, I think that it was almost perfect considering what FUNimation had to work with.

Yeah; I've noticed that, too, that the lines are broken up in the original as well. Take a close look at the two screens with Goku and Chichi, like on Goku's suit--in both versions the broken lines are there; you can just see them more clearly on the Blu-Ray captures. So, if there was any sort of mess-up in remastering these, the broken lines were not a product of it. They were just there to begin with.

I think that's just about everything useful I have to say for this particular thread... I think I'll go back to the fandub, fanworks, and non-DVD-related-detail-oriented-fussy threads now. >_>;
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Hey, hey, hey lol They had Hitler in DBZ (the Janemba movie) and even in Justice League, so I guess it's possible he's appeared in other places lol
