We definitely watched the same show. I just feel like we're all beating a dead horse sometimes. Then you have "certain" people that act like the whole Dragon Ball world is going to come to a complete stop just because of this movie. It'll come out, make some money, and then be released on DVD. We'll still have the manga, games, movies, and the anime. Business as usual.

I play a character named Carey Fuller, and me and Goku, who is played by Justin Chatwin are going to get into it a little bit, because I don’t like him and he tries to steal my girlfriend, Chi Chi. And I’m not going to go out without a fight.
I really have a hard time seeing Goku trying to steal anybody's anything. When I read this the first thig that came to mind was that Chi-chi was his girlfriend but only in his mind. And Goku's friendly happy-go-lucky attitude and the fact that Goku and Chi-chi knew each other since they were little made him feel threatened and whatnot.

Or ... they could totally have been dating for a long time and Goku put on his pimp hat, pulled up beside Chi-chi in his Impala and laid his mack on her.

Who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.

That's along the lines of what I was thinking, too. Carey only thinks he's got Chi-Chi's affection, whereas she's had it for Goku for a long time (she is, after all, described as Goku's "lifelong" love interest). When Goku is his normal, happy, caring self around his longtime female friend, Carey sees him as not only bullying material, but competition.

And from the way Mr. Fuller's describing it, I have a hunch he's overestimating his part somewhat.

I think he's just a little over excited at the fact that he's in a major motion picture and is exaggerating his part.

And I'd agree with what SSj_Rambo said, it might be that it was related to his next major role, even though he didn't even had a clue what the hell is that doll doing there...
Just want to say here... it is very unlikely that was anything to do with this movie. And technically, his next major role was the invisible (since it was, I believe, his first starring role)
Nothing against him personally, but he clearly don't know anything about DB and he's of course NOTHING like Goku....well who from this world looks like Goku...?
Its called "acting." There is no prerequisite that someone must be a total hardcore uber-fan of all past wrks in order to take a part. That's why there is direction. Many actors will bone up on source material after the fact, but there's no requirement that they enter the project full of comic knowledge.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Personally, I think this film should have been 100% CG and dubbed by the VA's in each respective country.

Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose ? Instead of that they might as well make a "Movie 14". If the movie was being animated by Toei and had the same plot as this one would people still be dead set against it ? That is an interesting question.

I have a bit of a news break here.

If you've been following the live action movie blogs each day than you might know this already but I've just found six bits of news that hasn't been mentioned here before and they're pretty interesting.

1) Dana Fraga (the creator of the live action adaptation story board of the original story..in other words he's mostly the guy to blame if this movie's storyline turns out to be crap) was interviewed and gave us some interesting news:
Dragonball Le Film wrote:Dan Fraga was kind enough to answer a few questions ! For your information, he is the person who created the story board for the film, we can clearly state that he had a major role in this adaptation !

As you could expect, he is subject to professional secrecy and therefore can not reveal any real scoop but through this interview, we know a little more about this artist !

--------

Did you inform yourself and get inspiration on the anime to create your story board ? Were you inspired by Akira Toriyama's style ?

Before being asked to work on Dragon Ball, I was already a fan of the Anime. I had maybe around 20 issues of the manga, but it was in Japanese, so I really could only look at the pictures. The first time I had ever heard of Dragon Ball was in 1993 when a fellow comic book artist showed me the Anime on a VHS tape. It was a bootleg from Japan. What inspired me most about Dragon Ball Z was the level of energy and dynamics that was put into the action sequences. If anything, that's what I tried to bring with me to my work on the film.

A lot of rumours are saying that the film will be a PG, Will it definately be a PG and not a PG 13 ? or even an R rated movie ? In our opinion an PG13 or R rated movie is more appropriate for the dragon ball universe ?

While I can't comment on the Rating of the Dragon Ball film, I will comment on that I'd personally prefer an R rating. My first job on a film was on The Transporter 2. Originally, we filmed an R rated movie, and unfortunately, Luc and Fox wanted more "butts in seats" so it was brought down to PG-13. I really feel that the film suffered because of it. As far as Dragon Ball is concerned, I think that Jim directed an incredible film. I'm sure if his intended cut makes it to the screen, you'll be happy. *Note: This is very interesting!*

Concerning the fights, Did the production team manage to reproduce what you had in mind on screen ? Does your storyboard come close to the anime's famous battles ? We are afraid that the dragon ball fight's will be filmed in a very traditional way. With your work on the storyboards, have you tried to create something never seen before ?

I think our action department did an incredible job. They all worked very hard to stay true to the spirit of Dragon Ball. As I said before, I'm a fan of the anime and worked very hard on bringing kind of energy that to my work.

Could you either tease us with something from the film or even give us a few hints on what we should expect from this adaptation ? Will there be any suprises that we would not find in the original manga or anime ?

If I answered that, don't you think that the surprises would be spoiled ?

Did you meet any difficulties creating this storyboard ? If so, could you tell us what ? What did you enjoy the most in your work on Dragonball ?

I don't see things as difficult, only as a challenge. I embrace any challenge, and Dragon Ball was a pure joy. My favorite part was meeting new people and creating new friendships on set. I was pleasantly surprised by how cool everyone was. Mr Chow was insanely charming.

According to rumours, production has planned to conduct follow-up to this first opus, will you also work on these projects ?

If I am asked to work on any Dragon Ball project, I'd definitely accept.
2) Next we have two scans from Jump SQ magazine:

Same old expressionless Chatwin. :( But there does seem to be some interesting information, if someone could translate it for us that would be great! :)

3) This little tidbit was also posted:
Hi,
A small teaser with a few scenes of the film was shown at Cinema Expo 2008,
So maybe the beginning of next month or at the end of this, you might see one soon
Wish you all the Best
Christina Inman

Maybe a teaser with X-Files 2 ? Wait and see !
4) Now here's the big stuff!

A video of what is supposed to be Chichi vs Mai in some sort of martial arts tournament. The quality sucks, but oh well, it's all we've got. :?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA8jPKFYdKg

Here's another similar video from the same user:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA8jPKFYdKg

5) And, there has also been a set report from Tallai, here's what it says (I bold-ed the parts that I found worth mentioning):
The DragonBallMovieBlog received a set report of the shooting from Tallai. Here is a summary of what he says:

" There were vaious scenes in the highschool during about the first half of the story. They had 4 groups of differnt extras. The 4 groups were, Outside the school, Inside the school, Goku’s class room, and the hall ways. There were about a good 20 people in each shot. The scene he was in was the outside of the school. This was the first shot they show of the school, Goku was walking in down the street to get to school. He crossed the road, and got to the school. The first few promotional pics were for that scene. How ever there was speculation going around that there was a car crash… there was no car crash in that scene. Either they added it in later I dont no but that was the scene.

Working with the crew was amazing, even though I was only there for 2 weeks I got to meet Justin Chatwin. He was soo comitted to getting Goku right. He, in my opinion, took this movie more seriously then anyone else. James wong was a great director, he just basiclly told us what to do and we all just went and did that scene. I was surprised that for 1 of the scenes there were quite a few blocking mistakes but he decided that the scene was all right. It felt a bit rushed through out those 2 days because we managed to cram in almost 20 scenes in 1 day. Everyone was in a constant rush. I didnt get too meet any other cast member personally other than Justin. I did see James Marsters but I didnt see Emmy any where. James Marsters was another one of the guys who made sure he gave 100 %. I cant say much about the sets because it would be breaking my agreement. But I can say that the sets that I saw were astonishing. It felt like these sets took years to make, but in fact it only took a few months. Everything felt like it was in the right place at the right time. The extras were also used as extras in the tournament. We were the audience. They just basically told us that go crazy. Yell as loud as you can!

The promoting of the film wont start for a while. We were told that about late October to mid November we can see a teaser trailer, but hopefully it will come out before. This movie has a lot of surprises that no one would ever expect. Working in James Wong’s adaptaion of Dragonball was amazing, and I cant wait to see this movie when it comes out next April."

Fairly good news in perspective, it can be added that among the surprises, one could find many characters in the series. Indeed, many cameos are announced (including by Cloud Strife who is for now a reliable source) that Oozaru (although some rumours announce the much smaller than in the manga). Then we can always hope to see Krilin, Ten Shin Han .. Kami will also be present, but it remains to be confirmed.
Pretty interesting stuff.

6) And lastly, here is some sort of sketch for what I assume to be a pose that Chatwin will use in the movie, this gives me a little bit of hope for this film:

That's all for now folks!

Oh goddamnit, even the sketches that make for the movie have Chatwin with that blank look.

Interesting bit about wanting it to be rated 'R'. I'd be surprised if anything Dragon Ball-like received anything higher than PG.

Sadly, IMDB has reported that the movie will be rated PG. I really, really hope this gets changed.

That is some pretty bad news. I don't think a Dragon Ball movie should be rated R but PG ? The worst thing we'll see is Goku pushing somebody!

PG-rated movies can get away with a surprisingly lot these days.

For example, The Incredibles is really violent, and so far is the only major Disney/Pixar to require a PG rating because of it.

Well as long as the action is good and it looks like Dragon Ball then I guess it'll be entertaining.

I know from experience that a lot of the people that were kids and watched DBZ during it's peak on Toonami now consider themselves too old for PG movies, which makes this a pretty bad viewer strategy, IMO.

This interview makes me feel a lot better about the film, at least the action. It's good to hear that Chatwin is trying to be faithful the part.

However, I dont' want this movie having an R rating, because that would basically mean to me that it won't be the happy-go-lucky dragonball we all know and love...not that it is guarunteed to be that now.[/i][/b]

The "love triangle" bit sours the whole deal for me.

Though I'd like it if this movie were to turn out to be PG-13; as it was said; lots of people who watched DB when it was airing on Toonami are in their 20's now.
On hiatus.

I believe the storyboarder guy was talking about The Transporter when he said they wanted an R rating.

You know, this whole thing with Carey and Goku 'trying to steal Chi-Chi' sounds, to me, like one of those "Clueless Goku moments" where he does something that gets him in trouble without realizing why he's gotten in trouble. XD

I lol'd hard @ frowny-face Chatwin sketch.

I can't see anything of great importance from those scans (considering how small they are,) but I'm assuming it's the same old information about the characters and whatnot.
